Au where Athanasia dies. (It's just a joke)
Jennete wasn't dumb, she knew about political affairs and quite a few languages. After all, duke Alpheus didn't want her to lose to princess Athanasia.
But it still didn't make sense that Athanasia would leave the empire to her. Jennete knew she was weak, not as competent as the perfect princess who seems way more mature than she looked.
Literally anyone else would have been better, Felix, duke Robain...
But...
She was empress now.
Anyone else could have been better, more competent. But Athy chose her and she had to fulfil that promise.
''How did you change so quick?'' Bewildered, the former emperor.
The palace stained in red. Jennete can't cry, she has to move forward. So she holds in her tears. Tomorrow she has to hold an national assembly, most of the nobles who supported her would be expecting a weak young ruler to be their puppet.
And she was, but she has cut off her strings.
Literally anyone else could have ruled Obelia, but Athy chose her. So she can't let her down, even if it meant killing off the only family member she has left. Her father created her to be more powerful than him, and she was. Significantly.
''You told me my kindness would make me suitable for an empress father.''
Anastacius lay bloodied on the floor. His eyes barely stayed open.
''No... granpa.''
Jennete smiled weakly, ''thank you granpa, for pretending to be my dad, I had fun.''
She can't let Athy down, she musn't cry. She mustn't be weak.
''Sir magician didn't want to live after the princess died, you could say hello to him when you visit him.''
A final blow, then all would be over.
The princess chose her.
Everything was for the princess, for she was the first one who told her the truth. The first sister she ever had.
The only person to have ever loved her.
And she'll look after whatever's left with all her might.
