I’ve just realised why they tell you to do a lot of reading for your dissertation….It’s not just because you will digest a lot of ideas and theoretical grounding for your actual content.
I just started a rough opening paragraph to my dissertation, and I was AMAZED at how impeccably easy it was, and normally I am awful at writing the introductions to essays, because…well…I think they can be a bit pointless.
But I’ve been reading a lot of critical and academic articles recently, largely because If I see something I think Dan will like I send it to him, and if he sees something which is related to my interests he sends it to me…so I’m reading roughly 2 a day, just out of interest….a lot of them have nothing to do with my dissertation topic, most of them are about porn culture and female sexuality and feminism…BUT it means that I am SO well read in other people’s introductions to academic articles that I am now able to replicate that by myself….
READ CHILDREN. READ ALL THE ARTICLES!!!!!!
Handed in (what feels like) my 20th research proposal. It's actually my 5th, I think. Hopefully it will be accepted. The literature lecturers of the department need to approve it. There are 5 of them in total. 2 are on sabbatical, one is my thesis supervisor, one is retiring and that leaves one. Who will review it😂
Last semester of the year: studying civil law because I’ll have a test today. 🧠
Radio silence
I've been quiet because I've moved to a temporary room. I'm really struggling with my housing situation. I don't have WiFi and my mobile data is very limited.
So I will post when I can.
Stay sane, my friends

Hello all! After many delays, I come to you with a new edition of the #gradblrchallenge! Like the original August 2016 challenge, this particular round will focus on creating a support and accountability network for graduate students who run gradblrs.
As before, the general plan for this challenge is not immensely structured. I understand that we all have different needs. Once more, the point is simply to connect with fellow graduate students!
THE GOAL: For most of the month of August, all participants will be asked to commit to at least 3 blog posts a week, detailing their work (assignments, research projects, readings and so on). Moreover, to keep up with the spirit of community, each participant will (try to) comment/reblog or engage in some way with the weekly posts of at least 3 other participants. (For more detailed rules on the structure of the challenge, see this page regularly as it may be updated before the start of the challenge. For more information on the gradblrchallenge itself, see the F.A.Q. page.)
The challenge should start on Monday, August 5th and conclude on Friday, August 30th 2019.
**If you own a gradblr and want to register for the challenge, simply state your interest here. In your request, please include your name (or nickname) with your area of study. (All messages will be kept private.) The last day to register for the challenge is July 31st, 2019!
The Cursed Channel - the article is about how the channel in Hungary was imagined as both utopian and dystopian in the 20th century. It is very interesting. The writers discuss how the geographical landscape and the channel was used as a political tool by politicians.
The article reminds me of my time when I was in Budapest, Hungary. The Danube river - is it also cursed?
Not study related.

15/07/19 // I've recently heard about the Kanban method of time management. The principle is that you should only ever be "doing" 3 tasks. Once you've done one, you can then start on another from your to do. Waiting refers to anything you cant work on currently because of external factors. The key is to split down tasks to avoid burnout
I've set this up with sticky notes for my dissertation, from Thursday to today I've been very productive and I'm now writing up the results of my research. I think next year I'll definitely be using this method for general task management in all areas of life
How I Take Notes: Sources for Thesis Writing
Tools: Post-it Flags, Uni Propus or Mildliner highlighters, Stabilo Point 88 Fineliners, Faber-Castell pencil, and Paper-Mate Ink Joy gel 0.7, Moleskine lined large hardcover notebook
Method: As a headline, I write the text that I am reading and the author. If I am reading one article/story out of an anthology, then I also write the larger collection and its editors. This makes it easier when I need to create a citation. If the book is divided into chapters, I make the chapter titles subheadings. To me, this makes my notes more organized and I can figure out which portion of the book I am talking about.
While taking notes, sometime I write little blurbs to myself, which I indent and underline using my stablio. Usually I do this to explore how the text relates to my paper or question how an interesting fact can be used. Other indentions are used (not underlined) to tell myself to do something in the paper or when the text elaborates on a point and I paraphrase. I rarely highlight my notes unless I make a note to myself to do something while writing my paper and I don’t want to forget to do the thing.
Within the books themselves, I underline or simply mark in the margins where the section I am using ends and begins. I use pencil because most of the books I use are library books. However, if the book is my own, I will use a highlighter. I also jot down a definition to a word I may not know using a pencil. I use tabs in places where I know I will be using a direct quote for easy access.
Pro Tip: Always write down page numbers for everything, even if you’re paraphrasing or don’t really feel that you may use that information. If you write it down, write the page number. You may not have access to the book or article down the road, or simply don’t want to comb through the entire work to find that one spot you were talking about in your notes.
when you get this you have to answer with 5 things you like about yourself, publicly. then, send this ask to 10 of your favorite followers (non-negotiable, positivity is cool!!)
Thanks for this 🥰 it is so easy to list negative things about yourself. I need to think🤔
1. I love that I'm crafty and focused on creativity.
2. I like my curly hair (most of the time 😆).
3. I like that I'm study-oriented - I'm glad I want to study (and very grateful that I'm able to follow my dreams).
4. I like my adventurous side - I'm trying to be more daring.
5. I LOVE that I'm fiercely independent. 💪
Thanks for this - sending love your way 🥰

At a restaurant on the beach drinking a red cappuccino heavily drizzled with honey. The article I'm reading is really interesting and my notes are becoming longer than the article.
