The day finally arrived.

Your Master warned you periodically that people might come for you. Try to find you. Try to take you away from them. 

People from your former life. People you used to know, maybe even love. 

You still secretly longed for them. Even with your…altered state of mind. You didn’t tell your Master, but they knew. They always knew. 

A knock sounds on the door of the house, and your Master goes to open it. There, standing in the doorway and wearing a face that spoke only fury, was your best friend. 

“Can I help you?” “Cut the shit. You know exactly who I’m here for and I’m not leaving without them!”

Your Master groaned and rolled their eyes dramatically. “Fine, since you asked sooo nicely and came aaaaall this way, I guess I’ll indulge you.”

He gestures for them to come in, and then for you to enter the room. Your friend’s gaze quickly shifts from one of murderous anger to shock and horror. 

“Oh my gods…what happened to you? What have they done?”

You smile. “Hi! I missed you so much! Sorry about Master, they weren’t expecting visitors today.” “Your eyes…what’s wrong with your eyes?” “What do you mean? They’ve always looked like that!”

Your friend tries to keep their composure. “I really don’t understand why you’re so scared. Master’s done nothing but take the best care of me! He’s shaped and perfected me into something truly beautiful.” 

They start tearing up. “You’ve been missing for so long! I thought you were gone and I spent so much time trying to heal and then I hear you’re alive and I see you like THIS! You’re a total slave!”

They walk up to you and wrap their arms around you. “I’m taking you back with me. I’m taking you home.”

Your Master steps behind them. “And there’s your last mistake.”

They strike your friend in the crook of their neck and drop them to the floor. 

“Pick them up for me, love?” “Yes, Master.”

You hoist them up, your head under their arm, and walk them through the basement door. Soon, they’ll understand.

You broke their spell, you escaped their control, you’re free!

Your mind is yours again, but why doesn’t it feel…right?

Their presence in your head became second nature to you after a while. You got used to not having to make decisions and carry out orders without the outcome tearing your heart to ribbons.

And now you feel…empty.

Not the pleasant emptiness their control made you feel. Empty of anger, of fear, of sorrow. Of the ability to form your own thoughts and question constantly whether you were right or wrong.

This is the emptiness of a cockpit after the ejection of its pilot.

You need to go back.

Not because they still have your friends. Not because they could do this to someone else. Not because their operation needs to come crashing down. 

Because you need them more than you ever knew. (Sorry I took the month off, I'm back now!)
