The blues is going to church
The ending has a nice whole-tone-ish approach to phrasing.
A good number of little tunes I write start out as acapella musings while driving the freeway. To my fellow highway travelers I must look like I'm jamming to the radio or talking on speaker phone.
Besides being a productive way to travel, it is invigorating. I also am finding that it suppresses road rage when crazies are going ape in traffic jams.

Mr. Kleon tweeted a link to a Richard Linklater quoting this from Emerson. I couldn't get it out of my head, so I turned into something to sing.

Decided to incorporate sheet music into these, which is good because my big head was crowding up the bottom third of the frame on the previous demos.
The melody in this is a variation of the previous demo When My Heroes Go Silent

In the repeat of the lyric, there's a Bbm/Ab chord that sounded right when I was playing it, but at playback my ear is wanting to hear a simpler Bbm7. Well, ok then.

Last week John T. Unger shared with me this helpful boogie woogie piano page at YouTube. Seeing that page inspired me to take a different approach for posting daily demos. I wasn't that fond of Tumblr's audio player, either. At the end of each week, I'll compile the demos and post them at wordtoflesh.com, along with sheet music and other images.
Show up regularly and so will serendipity
The transcription is representative of the music I had in mind, but each time I play this one I change the timings because the tempo is fairly rubato.
This lyric was inspired by a quote from writer Isabel Allende:
Show up, show up, show up, and after a while the muse shows up too, too.
Brain pickings did an article on her book Why We Write, and that quote comes from a passage that stresses work-ethic, instead of waiting on the muse to arrive.
A modest tune for modest people.
The Gm in bar 6 should actually be a Bb, and the first couple beats in bar 8 might be better with a Csus of some kind. But, just another skeleton- I can always change the tune's skin later.

I'd never heard this tune, and am not familiar with George Harrison's album Living In The Material World. Quite the legal drama with Sir McCartney that this song documents.
I dig the dobro doubling the vocal melody.

HOW HANDWRITING BOOSTS THE BRAIN

Other research highlights the hand’s unique relationship with the brain when it comes to composing thoughts and ideas. Virginia Berninger, a professor of educational psychology at the University of Washington, says handwriting differs from typing because it requires executing sequential strokes to form a letter, whereas keyboarding involves selecting a whole letter by touching a key.
She says pictures of the brain have illustrated that sequential finger movements activated massive regions involved in thinking, language and working memory—the system for temporarily storing and managing information.
And one recent study of hers demonstrated that in grades two, four and six, children wrote more words, faster, and expressed more ideas when writing essays by hand versus with a keyboard.

This is my own composition notebook homework assignment in progress. Professor Chewbacca reflects on the crayon experience. I’ve inked it and now I’m coloring it in
I like to figure out problems in my composition notebook using drawing and slow writing and non-photo blue pencil to help me with certain problems that defy being approached head on. I’ve found there is something to moving ones hand in a certain way — like a coloring way— while filling in a space and half thinking and half not-thinking about this something you are trying to figure out that invites possible answers to present themselves..

Some of the most amazing music that I hold dear that is very deserving of a large audience sells nothing, and meanwhile the mediocre, terrible stuff sells millions.
A Goyte quote as he talks about his song "Someone That I Used To Know" published in this article in the Denver Post.
I hear many others remark similarly; that the work they are most proud of, or think is really good, gets unseated by a work they don't think as highly of.
I did not know that Gary Lucas was a former Captain Beefheart guitar player.
Been a fan of Jeff Buckley's performance of "Dink's Song" done live at Sin-é , but hadn't seen this '92 version of it. Horrible quality, but still, the energy and the way it builds into a scratched throat tambourine frenzy is fun to watch.
