new favourite fake search engine in a movie just dropped
I think every house spider is smiling
being online is so scary aren't you guys worried about the world wide spider
It’s finally the day of the “tea date”. Despite Dev never giving Eris a location, it’s right there in the middle of the cafe. The entity has taken on a vaguely more humanoid appearance, but its proportions are still slightly off and the air around it hums with static.
It takes notice of Dev’s presence and waves, smiling a bit too widely for a passable human.
As Dev enters the café, entrance bells jingling, they smile warmly back at Eris. Their eyes are bright, but there’s a hint of sharpness to them—a ruthlessness ready to come to the surface any time.
“Eris! Right on time. My usual booth—“ they motion with a shoulder to a secluded, faded-looking corner of the otherwise pristine shop—“is open, as always.
Have you ordered yet?”
mAyBE i haVe :)
It smirks and holds up an old, chipped mug, clearly not from the cafe itself. The graphic is faded too badly to make out, but Dev can just barely see an image of… a smiling face? Some kind of animal? Cursive lettering? It all seems to swirl and warp together.
CeRtaiNLy tHe BeST SmooThiEs iN TOwn :)
What on earth is it talking about? This place doesn’t serve… Never mind. It’s useless trying to understand this entity.
Dev grins back, but the sharpness in their eyes grows stronger as he eyes the cup. For a moment, he looks deeply, ravenously hungry. Then the moment passes, and Dev nods at Eris.
“Indeed. The waiter will be coming with my order in just a moment, so we’re all set to sit down.”
This café does not have waiters, and there was no point at which he could have ordered. Yet as he moves to the booth and sits, a slightly dazed-looking worker comes holding a hot chai latte. He takes it from their hands and thanks them, and they meander off, blinking. Turning his attention back to Eris, he says,
“Thank you again for agreeing to meet up. I’m always excited to talk with another avatar. How has your current state been treating you?”

Scariest Leitner you've seen?
Ooooh, wonderful question!
Possibly the Flesh book that turns the user inside out while keeping them alive, or (not to toot my own horn) the Web book that turns you into a mad conspiracy theorist intent on killing your loved ones. I suppose it depends on if you believe self-harm or harm on others is scarier.
crime/mystery media where the main character is just a nosy fuck and not a cop is always so entertaining and so much better than police procedurals
nya
Nya ::::3
…Don’t tell anyone I said that. It’s classified information.
You. You’re the one who “checked out” my Leitner, right? Bet you thought you were being real sneaky. Well, you’re not. I found you.
-S
^See? I can be sneaky too.
Ah, Sol! Good to see you around.
I'm surprised at the accusation of "sneaky," though. I haven't been particularly subtle about any of this. After all, why would I write my full name if I didn't want you to find me? ::::)
Well, okay, you weren’t subtle about taking the book… but you were the one asking all those questions, weren’t you? So innocently inquiring about my job, about our procedures… oh, I’m an idiot.
Well, it's not as if the procedures were public knowledge! You've always been so kind to others when it came to information. And I was genuinely curious! Some things can be for more than one reason ::::).
Anyways, I've picked up the book from storage, so you don't need to worry about keeping an eye on it. It's in good hands.
Trust you — an Avatar of the Web, unless I’m very wrong — with a Leitner?! Don’t make me laugh.
Well, if you can’t trust me by my word alone, I suppose you could come and see my collection. I’ve got quite a few precautions in place, and perhaps you could help verify their safety. Plus, I’m sure you’d love to peruse what I’ve got.
Riiight… Yeah. I’ll just pop down and check it out, shall I? Maybe you could make me a cup of tea too, and we could have a nice chat about your collection.
You’re a funny one, Devyn.
Ah, well. I suppose that’s fair. Caution is paramount in your line of business.
Pity that you can’t come and check on the book, then. I suppose you’ll simply have to trust I’m keeping it safe within my shelves.
You’re not giving it back, then? I think you’re supposed to return library books.
I suppose I could attempt to locate Jurgen Leitner, if you think the librarian deserves to have these back. However, I frankly don’t believe his hands are the safest to keep these books in, if they’re even still the hands of a living man.
…Nah. Pretty sure he’s, uh… long gone.
Anyway— that’s not what I meant. You— you should give it back to me. Because it’s my job to look after things like this, and if it gets out that I lost a Leitner, then… oh, what do you care? You’d probably laugh if I got fired.
Would I laugh if you got fired? Most likely not. You’re a better artefact storage worker than some, and more friendly than most of the ones I’ve had the pleasure of meeting ::::)
And plus, it’s not as if you’ve actually lost it. You can come and check on it any time, to make sure I’m not doing anything devious with it ::::). It’s just on loan, after all! I’m sure it’ll make its way back into your hands somehow.
