âCathy Hummels had to gain weight for her dream of a babyâ
Thatâs the headline of this article and itâs probably one of the most honest ones Iâve read so far. Spoiler alert: it isnât clickbait!
[...] The wag revealed becoming pregnant wasnât an easy way. Man and woman have sex, a baby is made. Cathy Hummels can tell you a thing or two about how it isnât always that easy. To become pregnant the wife of Mats Hummels (28) had to gain weight first. âI was too thin to become pregnantâ, she revealed to âBild am Sonntagâ.
There are different reasons why a woman doesnât get pregnant. A few of the most common ones are: stress, age, smoking, unhealthy diet and of course over- or underweight.
The body weight always plays a role when a woman tries to get pregnant. Extreme obesity or underweight can cause an imbalance in the bodyâs hormone levels and therefore messes with the menstrual cycle. The metabolic activity of the fat tissue, in particular of the abdominal fat, is the cause of that. These cells turn testosterone into estrogen: a lot of fat tissues build much estrogen, fewer fat tissues build less estrogen. And too high or too low oestrogen levels can lead to malfunctions in the female body that can affect the fertility.
So when a woman is underweight her few fat tissues arenât enough to keep the bodyâs hormone levels in balance. That causes a decrease in the secretions of hormones which control the female cycle. Meaning: The menstruation and ovulation are absent and it becomes more difficult for the egg cell to implant. Luckily all of this is reversible and everything the woman has to do is gain back some weight. And thatâs exactly what happened to Cathy.
[...] And with some more pounds around the waist? âIt happened sooner than I thoughtâ, said the model. The pretty mum-to-be takes care of her baby getting enough to eat. âI always insist on meal breaks when Iâm working nowâ, she says.
Iâm happy that Cathy realized that she was too thin to get pregnant and gained some weight. Itâs great to read that she takes better care of her body, especially since sheâs responsible for two now. I hope that after the baby will be born, she wonât change her attitude and keeps a healthy weight and treats her body right.
[...] Before the pregnancy Cathy was constantly criticised for her skinny figure. âI was very thin for some time. I didnât want to be that thin, but I just was. It was a phase of my lifeâ, she admitted to BUNTE.
Another step in the right direction was realizing that in fact she was too skinny and Iâm proud that Cathy publicly admitted it. From my personal experience I know that going through a phase were you just loose weight and donât know why is nothing unusual. Although I do believe now that there is always a reason why, maybe Cathy just didnât realize or suppress it. I can imagine that the constant comments and articles about her figure didnât help her to become healthier again. There are mental and physical explanations why someone lost weight and doesnât gain back any. Since Cathy chose to be in the spotlight, I can imagine that the pressure of always looking good and being judged, no matter what she does, can be difficult to deal with. Although Cathy puts on a tough girl attitude in regards of âhatersâ, I think that sheâs a fragile soul that head over heals jumps into new projects instead of thinking and learning from past failures. I wish Cathy nothing but the best for her and her baby and I hope that motherhood will change her behaviour in a positive way.
Conclusion: Cathy took a brave step by openly admitting that she was too skinny and therefore too thin to get pregnant.
