Not a worm
here is the albino earthworm I found today! it does not look like much at first glance, because there are many earthworms that are normally unpigmented and look much like this one.
but take a closer look at the head and you’ll see that the prostomium—the little lobe that comes off the first segment—is tanylobous, having creases until segment 2. that means it’s genus Lumbricus, which are all usually a dark reddish color!
here is the albino meeting another juvenile, a Lumbricus terrestris. I’m unsure if the albino is L. terrestris or rubellus, and will need to wait for it to grow up to be able to tell.
no matter what it is, it’s a privilege to see and raise this little oddity, I will keep you all updated on its progress!
This is a worm ✅
Blue velvet worm, Euperipatoides rowelli, Peripatopsidae
Euperipatoides rowelli occurs in humid, temperate forests of southeastern Australia. Its main habitat is decaying logs on the forest floor, where it lives in crevices and feeds on small invertebrates.
Specimens are rarely found alone, usually forming groups of a few individuals containing females, males, and juveniles. Laboratory observations on behavior concluded that these groups present some sort of hierarchy with dominant females.

Have you ever seen a giant worm? 👀🪱 While there are thousands of earthworm species known across the planet, only a handful are supersized. Members of the genus Martiodrilus can grow up to an incredible 4.9 ft (1.5 m) in length and weigh up to 1.1 lbs (0.5 kg)! Inhabiting underground burrows in parts of South America such as Colombia and Ecuador, these worms are rarely seen above ground—but can sometimes be heard as they move through the soil.

anyway here’s the worm
didn’t get any good photos pre-incident but here’s a normal Lumbricus castaneus and the albino side by side. perhaps not all that visually interesting since a worm without red pigment pretty much looks like any other unpigmented worm, but a really amazing animal. I hope it can reproduce and pass on its albino gene
I know she was just trying to feed her sisters but I can never look at Prenolepis imparis the same way, look what she did to this incredible worm
@onenicebugperday look it's a albino worm & a ant & another worm! @worm-detector have the worms! @god-offical not Wednesday but worm Wednesday anyways!

Can you show us the weirdest animal in Mexico?
Paxon:
Why yes! I have posted this long ago, but it's time to show them off again!!!
Mexican Mole Lizard (Bipes biporus), family Bipedidae, endemic to the Baja California peninsula of Mexico
This 2 limbed lizard is fossorial (burrowing underground). They breed and lay their eggs underground.
It is one of only 3 amphisbaenians that have limbs.
They are the pinkest when young, and turn whiter as the mature.
Though they are rarely seen, they may actually be quite common in their range.
As with many burrowing creatures shaped like this (such as legless lizards and caecilians), there is a belief among some local people that they enter the anuses of people who defecate outside… this is, of course, not true. (Many of these animals are called “tapaculo”).
