my conspiracy theory I created and actually kinda believe is that the Japanese birth rate crisis is made up - births and deaths are severely underreported due to the old family registry system still being in place - they SAY that young people aren’t getting married and having kids, but this point always feels more like millennial-shaming by boomers who don’t want their kids to have fun past 25 - bruh like erryone I know here wants to get married and have kids/is doing just that, and children are EVERYWHERE. I didn’t see this many kids when I went out in America EVER. Very few of my American friends have kids but I keep meeting parents here that are my age. Now, if the crisis is fake because of a statistical error, boomer jealousy, or an insidious far-right plot to make more Japanese people (which is plausible because like, if there’s a population crisis, MAKE IMMIGRATION EASIER, it is that simple but has yet to be done) remains to be seen

#I understand there are statistics that hold more weight than my own observations #But I think the family registry thing is a bigger part of this issue than people understand
