Master & Dynamic’s MA770 is a speaker molded out of concrete with Chromecast support

Master & Dynamic has been making high-end headphones for a while; some of them are okay, others are great. But this is the first time they’ve entered speaker territory. The concrete behemoth in question is the MA770, with a price to match: $1,800.

Pre-orders start today, with shipping in mid-May. Besides the material, it’s the first time I’m seeing this many connection options: a 3.5mm audio jack, optical, Bluetooth with aptX and WiFi with Chromecast support.

I had a chance to visit the M&D headquarters in Midtown Manhattan to spoke with CEO Jonathan Levine. “We always planned to make a speaker,” he said. Interior designer Masamichi Katayama of Wonderwall celebrates 25 years in the industry with his latest exhibit titled, The Encyclopedia of Masamichi Katayama: Life is Hard…Let’s Go Shopping. Including everything from his CD collection to potted plants, to intimate photographs, the over 500-piece archive gives us a glance at the mastermind’s personal life and a look back at his firm’s noteworthy clientele comprised of retailers like AMBUSH, Thom Browne and NIGO, among others. Katayama showcases his impressive antiques and contemporary art collection, boasting works from KAWS, Takashi Murakami and architect Jean Prouvé, along with his compilation of mid-century furniture. A pop-up store will also take place in conjunction with the exhibit, featuring tees designed by art director Hirabayashi Naomi. Following the release of its colorful spring collection, SUICOKE introduces an updated MOTO-VS sandal in the new KAW-VS slider style. The KAW-VS has the same Vibram footbed as its predecessor, the MOTO-VS but with a leather upper fabric for more foot coverage which was inspired by a visit to the U.S National Parks. SUICOKE introduces the lightweight slide PADRI, a TONO-V2 thong slipper, a high ankle strap BOAK-V, the NOTS-VS and BITA-V styles in a closed toed style, and the DEPA-ECS in a slimmer sole. Constructed from a trio of stacked shipping containers, the Contain Hotel offers accommodations for the surfing nomad. The five-room micro hotel sits on the Elbe riverbank in the Czech Republic and provides sleeping for up to 13 guests. The ground floor houses bathrooms, storage, and a four-bed room, while the upper level contains the remaining four rooms and a shared terrace. Each room features custom-made furniture, birch plywood walls and ceilings, and a glazed wall to open up the small space and provide views of the surrounding waterfront landscape.
