Going forward, we're going to use Polldaddy - it allows me to close the poll, it's easy to get to, easy to share on social media, and I think will create a larger opportunity for us to interact. Round 1's first matchup was done as described below. Everything else going forward is on Polldaddy. Sorry for the confusion, but we figure that this is fair since it wasn't done mid-matchup, and because Tacky won with such a large percentage of points.
So now that "Weird Al" Yankovic has released all 8 videos in the #8videos8days release for his album Mandatory Fun, I thought it'd be fun to have a series of faceoffs to determine the best video of the 8. The videos have been seeded in single-elimination, tournament-style bracket (which you can see right here). The bracket seeds are determined by release date, so the first video released (Tacky) goes up against the most recent release (Mission Statement) and so on. Here are the dates of voting:
Tuesday, July 22: Tacky vs. Mission Statement
Wednesday, July 23: Word Crimes (my cameo!) vs. Lame Claim to Fame
Thursday, July 24: Foil vs. First World Problems
Friday, July 25: Handy vs. Sports Song
Monday, July 28: 7/22 winner vs 7/25 winner
Tuesday, July 29: 7/23 winner vs 7/24 winner
Wednesday, July 30: All eliminated videos in a 6-way grudge match for the #3 position
Thursday, July 31 - Saturday, August 2 - THE FINAL ROUND
At approximately 10am Central time each day, I will post links to the videos on my Twitter feed. To vote, do one or both of the following:
Favoriting the tweet counts as 1 vote.
Retweeting the tweet counts as 2 votes.
You can vote for both videos if you want, and you can assign up to 3 points per video. The winner will be determined by 2RT+Fav.
Example with simple math: if Tacky gets 10 RTs and 30 favs, and if Mission Statement gets 15 RTs and 10 favs, then it's (10x2)+30=50 vs. (15x2)+10 = 40. If you do your order of operations correctly you don't need the parenthesis but not everyone is great at math so I want to be transparent and obvious.
Due to technical limitations (and to keep people from stuffing the ballot box) quoting the tweets or just using their associated hashtags will not be counted. The winner will be announced when the next round starts, and the final winner will be announced at 10am on Saturday, August 2.
And then we'll party like it's 1699.
