I’ve always been pretty neutral on intersex inclusion in the LGBT+ community and in pride, but seeing people claim that we’ve never been a part of the community, dyadic people saying that we are JUST medical conditions, the intersexism we face from dyadic trans and nonbinary people, the fetishism, the erasure, and even the violence we face from the rest of the community really makes me feel different.
Regardless of acronyms and pride and everything else, we are still here and we are people who exist in YOUR spaces, because they’re ours too. And we have to deal with everything I mentioned above constantly along with countless other issues.
I think dyadic LGBT+ members should by default be including us in the narrative, they should be questioning their peers when they say something intersexist, LEARNING what is intersexism. I think some dyadic people really think that if there’s no i in the acronym that they don’t have to care about intersexism or that we’re not gonna exist in the same rooms as them.
This community is one that I grew up close to, and eventually I was run out of it as an intersex person of color. I had to witness people saying they wanted to be me, have my body and my culture because somehow that would make them more “valid”, but ignore the trauma and pain that causes me. Ignore how much I had to fight to openly be myself. Ignore how deeply transphobic and intersexist that is.
So yeah, I’m not a fan of dyadic people jumping to excluding our voices and our experiences. I actually think it’s disgusting considering how much of our pain and trauma went into making the community what it is today.
