recently, my boyfriend and I have been discussing how Instagram tends to eventually show us more conservative content when we watch certain things

he loves sports, and after a little while of scrolling through basketball clips, he'll eventually be recommended redpill "hate all women" podcast clips

i really enjoy knitting but if I scroll through one too many videos of - often women - crafting, eventually I'll get tradwife content about submitting to a man

one of us is queer, the other works in wildlife conservation. neither of us seek out this stuff, but the algorithm really wants to show it to us. I'm sure we're not the only ones

when antisemites are like "Jews drink the blood of Christian babies" I get kind of confused.

like, Jews are supposedly demons or the spawn of Satan, neither of which can be in contact with holy water.

the only thing that differentiates a Christian baby from any other one is that it's been baptized and dunked in holy water.

you think the spawns of Satan want to drink spicy baby blood? have you ever met an Ashkenazi Jew? we famously have very weak spice tolerance.

It kind of fucks with me that somebody killed ötzi the iceman because ötzi himself is like whatever but the silent presence of human hands that drew back the string of the bow that shot the arrow that killed him is crazy. the idea that there were various people involved in that situation and while one of them has had his last hours painstakingly reconstructed and studied to no end, the others now only exist insofar that an arrowhead had to get into his shoulder somehow. imagine killing someone and then suddenly your entire existence is only a vague shadow implied by the fact that you killed them. much to consider

Idk man I just think it’s very telling that even the non-Jewish Pitt fans who are actually being “normal” (read: not virulently antisemitic) about The Pitt having a storyline about the Tree of Life shooting still overwhelmingly seem way more focused on Mrs. Kovalenko’s scene with Perlah where she thanked her for the Muslim community’s response to the shooting and offering of support for the victims (which very much did happen, and it’s good that the episode acknowledges that) and holding it up as a moment of interfaith cooperation (and being nice to Muslims) than they are on the *actual Tree of Life storyline itself,* which is specifically about a JEWISH survivor of a horrific attack on JEWS coming into the ER and being seen by a JEWISH doctor whom she immediately bonds with over their SHARED JEWISHNESS before having a conversation about the deadliest attack on a Jewish community in American history and the way that the trauma of antisemitic violence is devastating and long-lasting and has a profound impact not only on the victims themselves but on Jews all over because we are all one tribe, and when one of us hurts, we all do. Like I just think it really says a lot about how your average goy views antisemitism.

okay so, let me just have another pointless rant.

the reaction to the newest episode of the pitt is close to being my final straw. this is genuinely one of the nastiest fandoms i’ve ever been a part of. pure, unmasked antisemitism on display because a jewish writer/actor dares to write about a jewish experience.

one of the biggest things i’ve seen is the interaction between perlah and the tree of life survivor being dubbed as ‘virtue signalling’ and ‘noah wyle trying to earn woke points’ but isn’t the whole show just the writers trying to earn woke points if we look at it in that way? calling it ‘unrealistic’ and a ‘fantasy’ is also bizarre to me, like maybe YOU live a sheltered existence, but muslim/jewish solidarity is happening everywhere, it’s needed now more than ever!!

the other thing i’ve seen is complaints about the ‘clunky writing’ but i don’t see how the show’s writing is any different than the first season’s?? by its design (the 15 hour format) the show will always have to use dialogue as its main form of exposition. we’re never gonna see these characters outside of the hospital, as the viewer we’re essentially being treated like their co-worker too, in the sense that we’ll only learn things about them when they TELL us. i do feel like because people don’t like noah they’re just using their dislike of him to cloud their judgment of the episode when i actually found it to be the best one so far.
