This is a shorter entry, I didn't really do anything in lab. This week was mostly writing reports. I haven't even talked about psychology at all, I saw Saccharine and that's about it. I'm honestly having trouble trying to write, and learn, and study, and have a life.

A new study demonstrates that invasive plants don't just directly compete with native species at a direct, macro level, but the ability they have to connect with mycorrhizal partners have a negative impact on the soil microbiome into which they are introduced. It also makes the point that the relationship between a plant and its mycorrhizal partners does not occur in a vacuum, but within the wider community of plants and the various beings in the soil microbiome.

All of this may seem common sense; after all, all of nature is interconnected in some way or another. However, mycorrhizal relationships are often presented in a 1:1 ratio, with a plant and its fungal partner working together in spite of whatever else is going on around them. It should come as no surprise that environmental factors can alter that relationship, and how effectively the partners exchange nutrients. In this case in particular, the invasive plant was able to tap into the mycorrhizal network, but less efficiently than its native neighbors.

Whether it can evolve more effective connections with soil fungi in the future remains to be seen. Moreover, this was a study done in a laboratory setting with two native plants and one invasive, and may not necessarily reflect the complexity of mycorrhizal networks in nature. Still, the fact that the introduction of a non-native plant species can affect how native plants and fungi interact is one more reason to remove invasive species whenever possible.

*"Myco" means fungus and "rhizo" means root. Some soil fungi wrap their mycelium around the roots of plants, or even grow into those roots. the plants then send carbon made from sunlight through photosynthesis down to the fungi, and the fungi give the plants phosphorus and other nutrients from the soil in a mutually beneficial relationship.

You know I was thinking of this, I think that there is too much variance in-between groups (or even two random people from different groups) to accurately say that eyes talk.

It's also something that men and women use to manipulate each other.

Your eyes just convey emotional states at best, but even that can be faked. It's like you've never seen porn.

My semester is going, I recap what I did in my ecology lab last week (I can't remember if I had spoke about it), I fart at the Film Reference Library, I sorted through the course offerings for next year. Pretty boring stuff this week. I actually talk about how psychology is not a science in my mind, yet a assistant professor at the University of Guelph thinks it is. That's about it. I am going to write more often, I am just too busy doing things, like the fight between Ronda Rousy and Gina Carano was on, and it ended in 30 seconds. What the fuck is that. Almost all the fights were 1st round knock outs. Jake Paul was there, guy fights one real boxer, gets knocked out and breaks his jaw. Anyway, I am going to write like 2 or 3 times a week.

May Day...

This weekly report, just me rambling about what's going on this week, I started a new semester at the university, which started off quite nicely, although I had to do some schedule rearranging. I don't really talk about much. The school is being cyber bullied, well as well as other schools that use Canvas as a learning management system. My medication has actually wore off and I am tired, so this should be a nice post to contrast my previous post to help me see what works, and what doesn't. I agree it's really late in the game to be doing made up A/B testing. But I'm crazy like that, I'm actually a lot of fun when the medication isn't keeping me in check. I actually woke up and spruced it up a bit. Hope it goes hard in the paint.
