here’s a plot… muse a is a rlly powerful criminal. he basically has the world under their thumb. he’s killed lots of people (or at least ordered a lot of people to be killed) and he’s made a LOT of money this way. muse b, meanwhile, is a relatively ordinary person – she’s the girl next door. through a turn of events, the two meet and begin a fling. (muse a may or may not have a spouse at home, but that’s neither here nor there.) muse b knows muse a is a criminal – everyone does – but she enjoys the rush and the excitement. 

one day, though, muse b finds out she’s pregnant. and she realizes that muse a is not a suitable father for her baby. he’s too dangerous. death and destruction follows him everywhere he goes, and, as much as she cares about him, she knows he’s not exactly a good person. so she gives it to him straight: she’s going to end their relationship, move, and raise their child alone, and muse a is going to stay away. muse a truly loves muse b, so he agrees to her terms, and does her one better: he’ll send money to help raise the kid, and even pay for her new home.

fast forward some years. muse b is settled into her new life with her child, and muse a has stuck to his promises. at least until one day, he shows up on her doorstep. he has several armed guards, and a car ready to go.

“grab our kid and get in the car,” he says. “someone found out, and my enemies are after the two of you.”

it was the first time she saw him after everything that had happened.

before lorenzo’s death, sebastian’s presence used to fill her with almost innocent happiness and the sense of peace no one else could give her. he felt like a rock on her life, someone that she could rely on even if they were fighting, because maddy knew he would always be there, no matter what. now, the only sight of him made her heart freeze even more and when her eyes landed on him, they were nothing but resentment and pain. 

"he died protecting me. me, the wife that was about to cheat on him because i fell in love with you" it was the first time she said it to him and actually the very first time the words came out of her lips. outloud, the sentiment made her feel even worse. "i didn't care about his heart, i didn't care about our family, just about you. and he still died for me. you wanted me to vent? there it is. i hate you. all of you. hayden, scarlett, nadia, you... all of you destroyed my life over and over again."

maddy knew she was being unfair, but she couldn’t shake the feeling that before all of them, she was happy. lorenzo had crafted a perfect lie and now, looking back, she thanked him for letting him live in a fairytale, even if it was short lived. what was the alternative? what she had now? she was always in pain, both psychically and emotionally. 

"he doesn't deserve this life" she shook her head, feeling the tears fill her eyes once again when she sat on the couch and placed a hand on her bump. "he deserves much better than me, than all of this" a sob broke her words and once again, maddy knew that if she continued like this, she would end up harming her son. 

she knew, because she had read the books even before she confirmed she was pregnant, too excited to hold herself. she knew, because once things had settled between them, she had spent hours telling lorenzo every little detail the stupid apps on her phone told her, week by week, and she would see him smile with all his face, no matter how shitty his day had been. maddy knew because sebastian himself was always calming her down and giving her little facts he got from the internet and it was one of the things that had made him fall in love with him so quickly, without even her realizing. 

in the back of her mind, she always thought the baby would make things fall into place. that all three of them would find their place around him and somehow, they would have made it work, but now he was just a reminder that whatever her and sebastian could have had was tainted with lorenzo’s blood. now and forever.
