The Essence of Feminism
Change is the only constant thing in this world. However, change can only occur if a person initiates it to happen. I grew up learning that âWomenâ are only for men. To serve them and provide children for them. While âMenâ on the other hand are the providers for the family, the ones with power and the ones whose voice is important. The questions still lies within me, why was I given less rights than men? Even if our contribution in this world is the same. Gender Equality lies dormant unless Feminism is awakened.Â
I'm a girl living in this world filled with stereotypes and gender roles. We, women, have to live and act in a proper way or else we wonât be able to find a groom. We have to dress in a certain way, to know how to sit in the proper way. We should always watch what we say because we donât want men to hear us curse. And when the right age comes and we still havenât conceived, we should hurry up or the time will no longer come for us. And also the gender pay gap, according to Kathleen Elkins âWomen earn just 79 cents for every dollar men make in 2019.â. Imagine how women are paid less because of their gender, a factor they have no control over. Many women had to give up their dreams because society thinks itâs not fit for us. Because of Gender Roles, equality is demolished and oppression is awakened. Feminism is the belief in equal rights for both men and women. Women don't want power, they want equality. We want to live in a future where We are deemed as important, deemed to be our own person, to live for our own self. We want to live as an individual, to be labeled as equals. Where men and women are only titles, but their rights are equal.Â
What was the purpose of gender roles? If it only created a barrier towards both sex, the true essence of Feminism is to demolish that barrier and to form mutual rights on both sides, to demolish the oppression towards the opposite sex. Feminism isnât about women overpowering men. Itâs about constructing a world without the prejudice of society, where we are in harmony. For men and women were created the same, thus our society should think the same.
