Intimates - Part 2
Context: Cassie calls for backup
Cassie knows she can’t just stay like this forever, no matter how much she wants to. She pushes herself up off the floor feeling the ache in her muscles from the awkward position.
She takes a shower to wash this horrible morning off. The morning that was supposed to be nice and quiet, and lead into a whole day of spending time with her favorite person.
She ruined it. Of course I did. God, why did I have to be so selfish? She can’t keep her thoughts from swirling while she’s in the shower. If she could go back and redo everything she would.
Meanwhile,
You decided to use your day off that now had a change in plans, thanks to you, to get some errands done and shop around. Maybe some retail therapy will make you feel better.
It, unfortunately, is no help. Everything seemed to remind you of her.
You had found a cute set of pajamas but immediately wondered if you could find a matching pair of boxers for Cassie to wear with you. (You did and immediately bought them, of course.)
When getting groceries, you wondered whose place you two would eat at, what you guys liked to make together. You even spotted the cheesecake Cassie liked so much. (Duh, you got some for her.)
When you made it back to your place and put everything away you couldn’t help but replay that morning. I was too harsh. She didn’t deserve that. What is wrong with me?
You can only hope that a shower will rinse it away.
Cassie has tried to talk through this before, to make it make sense, but it wasn’t enough; it never is. Maybe you were right. Maybe she should just open up about it. But if she can’t tell you then who?
She decided to call the smartest person she knows, Dana.
“Hey Cassie. it’s my day off so you better not be calling me about work.” Dana answers with a chuckle.
“Hey Dana. No, this isn’t for work. I need your help with something.”
Dana can hear the uneasiness in her voice, “Of course, what can I do for you?”
“It’s uh- It’s about” she pauses “We had a fight.”
“Ah, I see. What happened with you and the little miss?”
“I- well- It’s kind of a long story.”
“Go for it. Today I’ve got nothing, but time.”
“Well you know since Chad I haven’t really-“
“Oh, believe me, I know, I hear you all the time talking about how badly you need to get laid.”
“Right, it’s just that I can’t, and I don’t know why.”
“You can’t? What do you mean, Cassie? Does she not want to?”
“No- no- she wants to. But I- I can’t.”
Dana doesn’t say anything, lets Cassie have a moment to think.
“I haven’t since- you know, and it’s different now. I know it is. And when I was with Chad- I don’t know- It- I don’t want it to be bad for her. I don’t want to let her down.”
“Cassie, honey, she’s a big girl. You have to let her make her own decisions and not just assume the worst.”
“I know, but-“
“No, there’s no “buts.” Cassie, she didn’t know you before. She doesn’t have an old you to compare to. All she knows is you now. And from what I can see, she loves you. You just have to let her.”
Cassie sits with that for a minute. She knows Dana is right. She sighs before replying, “Okay.”
“Good. Update me after!”
“Dana!” Cassie starts laughing, “No!”
“Alright, fine. See ya.”
“Thank you, Dana.”
“Anytime. Bye.”
“Bye.”
Cassie feels better about the future with you if you let her have one, but she can’t help but think she should have just had this conversation with you.
She slumps down further into the bed hoping to sleep off the rest of the day. Hoping that when she wakes up, she’ll see you again.
