So I have a confession...I have been a lazy ass the past month and my book sale numbers show it. I blame True Blood and HBO GO to anyone who will listen but in all honesty I was under the delusion that success would come naturally...as would a new job. I have been inspired by a few things though...

1. Numerous 30 days left to achieve a resolution posts on every social medium out there.

2. My Christmas shopping is done (a first for me this early in the season) and I need something to occupy me.

3. My best friend quit her job leaving me alone at work with few people to talk to and tons of free time that should not be consumed with Netflix and people.com

4. The guy I went on 2 dates with that I am now telling I'm too busy to do anything with cause I'm a coward and cant just be honest.

5. I want the feeling of accomplishment as my Christmas present to myself this holiday season (plus the necklace and earrings I already ordered obviously).

It seems just as impossible as any "resolution" despite the fact that its only a 30 day challenge but I really hope that I have that feeling of accomplishment at the end of December as I stand up to celebrate two of my best friends getting married. Being single for this wedding has been rough (dude I don't want to go on anymore dates with not considered). I was a sobbing mess over my single status at a wedding in October which made me feel the next day that I didn't get to honor my friends and their love in the way they deserved. So I hope that by doing these things like marketing Accidental Happiness and applying for jobs, I will have found my own little bit of happiness come December 31, and can appreciate theirs.

Also I have 50 books here in Chicago if anyone wants to buy one! I would be happy to sign it and write a personal message to anyone on your Christmas list. The reviews have been great so far with so many people requesting a sequel once they get to the end! Any avid reader who loves a little bit of romance and an impossible life dilemma will enjoy this story!

Post Partum...what the fuck?

Ok so status update on the book. It's done, its being printed, its available for sale on not one but two websites right now (amazon and lulu.com), with the other two coming soon (ibook and nook). The website is done....visit meredithrachek.com for all the information you could want on how to buy it and how we are promoting it! My dream is a reality...so why do I feel so empty?

Everyone keeps asking me how life is and I keep saying boring and then they stare at me like I'm crazy. Because I just published a book, I followed my dream, I tackled my dream and now I'm what bored? Maybe I am crazy. I think the truth of it is though that I kind of understand why pregnant women get depressed after they have their babies. Never mind the hormones and all of that...but this thing you have been working towards for so long, dedicationg your time and life and body to is no longer inside of you. Its out there for the world to see and experience and it doesn't just belong to you anymore.

So what am I doing? Writing another book. It's called Finally. And it will hopefully be available next summer. I'm just counting on this to help me stop relating to pregnant women because that is really starting to freak me out. Like in a really big bad way.

Moral of the story: CHEER ME UP!!!!!!! GO BUY THE BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!! IT'S ON SALE NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!

Vacation....Thank God I got away!!!

Well I am currently at the Charlotte airport multiple hours delayed for my flight home from vacation and I must say I feel great. There were a lot of clues that I needed to get away such as:

1. My inability to respond to a personal email within 3 days of receiving it. 2. An utter disaster of the friendship kind that I literally passed off to my co-offender and said you deal with it. That friendship may be over. 3. My inability to sleep more than 5 hours a night or run more than 5 miles at a time. 4. Eating everything in sight and losing weight (won’t lie pre-bikini weather this one wasn’t terrible but its always a sign and a bad one).

Needless to say I got into the car with my family last Saturday and had trouble staying awake. Literally my eyes would close as if I was drugged and no matter how hard I fought to stay awake an unconscious state took over. To provide even more perspective I slept 11 hours five out of seven nights.

In addition to sleeping I finally got a chance to throw out the to do list for a week and not live by anything other than the suns place in the clear blue sky. I read 4.5 books in the last week and given my delay here today I wouldn’t be surprised if I get most or all of Dan Brown’s Inferno done. I got to read some great stuff too: 1. Gilliam Flynn “Dark Places” 2. Kurt Vonnegut “God Bless You Dr. Kevorkian” 3. James Patterson ” Trial” 4. Jodi Picoult “The Storyteller”

A few other things…I stopped eating everything in sight, actually I’m confident I cut my food intake in half, barely had any coffee, drank less alcohol than normal, and other than the news didn’t watch TV. Honestly I feel as though I have detoxed my life. Also I started writing book #3 (which was supposed to be book #2 but got put on the back burner). Don’t worry book #2 is still top priority but I felt inspired and so I went with it. Finally, I planned out the whole timeline for completing “Finally”.

Jodi Picoult…one of my favorite authors said it best… “Writing is total grunt work. A lot of people think its all about sitting and waiting for the muse. I don’t buy that. It’s a job. There are days I really want to write, days when I don’t. Every day I sit down and write.”

I used to have a Kahlil Gibran quote taped to my bathroom mirror until I moved last summer. Since then I’ve had nothing and so when I get home today I think I’ll tape that up to remind myself that this isn’t supposed to be easy. Some days I’m going to hate pushing myself to write and some days it will come easy. But I can honestly say I have never regretted an afternoon spent plunking away at the keys of my laptop. Just like I’ve never regretted waking myself up an hour early for a run. Its in my blood, it drives me and pushes me. It irritates me and enlightens me. Its challenges are never fully conquered and its path is ever guiding my through the most complicated relationships and facts of life so long as I keep imagining.

So you may wonder what all of this means? Well I think I’m gonna make some post vacation goals/resolutions, to keep me focused coming out of this little week of paradise.

1. Write 5 days a week. 2. Never make a days to do list longer than what can actually be accomplished in a day. 3. Always take 30 minutes at the end of the day to do something that helps get me successfully published…this could be editing, responding to emails, research, outlining, or networking. 4. Keep the TV off more. Which will be supported by drinking less. So that’s a twofer.

Everything else will just have to be taken a day at a time. Alright back to relaxing.

Also to anyone feeling overwhelmed I would challenge you to go on vacation and NOT bring your laptop. It helps more than you could know.
