Bird-Brain (Dabi 'Touya' x Hawks 'Keigo')
Just a small fic, inspired by Keiid’s art on Twitter! Check it out here! She is super nice and puts up with the stupid comments I post under her art.
This is just tooth-rotting fluff with a young Keigo and Dabi (as Touya) so please enjoy! I’m super into Dabihawks, they have the potential for a lot of angst but I love the possible fluff that comes with it too.
Touya stared up at the morning sky, he was up much earlier than usual but today he felt like seeing the sunrise. It was as though someone was squeezing an orange in the sky as the beautiful colour was bleeding out, the sun rising slowly. Touya could stand there watching for hours if it weren’t for the fact he did, in fact, have school to attend and promised his father he’d buy bread and milk before heading there. Shoving his hands in his pockets, he turned around and took off to the nearest shop that should be open this early. It was only 6 AM, it should be okay. If not, he supposed he would just have to sit outside and wait for them to open, beats being at home.
Kicking a small pebble, Touya let out a huff and moved his hair out of his eyes, wondering if maybe his mother could do his hair again for him, but maybe not, she seemed stressed lately. Touya didn’t want to bother her, he could wait. Or he could learn to cut his own hair, there was bound to be plenty of videos online for beginners like him.
Walking up the two steps into the shop, Touya pushed the door open and glanced around it, smiling sweetly at the owner. “Hi again, Mister,” He greeted the older man politely, walking up to the counter and placing the money down, “just here for milk and bread. The shop owner hummed happily and told Touya about his morning as he got the milk and bread for him.
“Did you go for a jog again?” Touya asked, collecting the change from the older man.
“Yes, I did. Saw a dastardly villain on my run, luckily Mirage was there-” Touya glanced away, his eyes glancing outside the door, he was too distracted to pay attention. “-and she managed to take him down with just one- Oh, you okay there, Touya?”
Touya nodded. “Who’s that kid?” He pointed out the door to the park across the road. On the lonely swing set, where one of the seats was broken, was a kid. He, of course, sat on the one seat that wasn’t broken but the chain was hanging slightly lower on the right side, causing the seat to be lopsided. “He doesn’t go to my school, I’m sure I’d have recognised him.”
The shop owner leaned over the counter before smiling. “Ah, that’s just Keigo, sweet kid. He usually comes here for a can of juice and then runs to the park. I don’t think he goes to school, might be homeschooled. He’s usually messing around in the trees.” The shop owner placed the two items in the bag and gave Touya a wink as he threw in two chocolate bars and handed the bag over, “tell your mother I said hello.”
“Will do, thanks!” Touya skipped out of the shop, letting the door slowly close behind him. He took one step forward before stopping, his eyes trailing to the park. Keigo really did look so lonely over there, his redwings were slouched over his shoulders, head down and his foot kicking at the dirt. Touya looked in the bag and pulled out one of the chocolate bars, walking over to the park. He stopped right in front of Keigo, smiling as he held the chocolate out to him. “Mister gave me an extra chocolate bar if you want it.”
Looking up slowly, peering through his locks of hair, Keigo swallowed slowly before reaching out for the chocolate slowly. “...Thanks.”
Touya reached into the bag and took out his own chocolate. “No problem...don’t tell anyone though, I shouldn’t be eating chocolate for breakfast but it’ll be our little secret.” He gave Keigo a wink, who laughed and pulled the wrapper down and took a large bite out, moaning.
“I’ve never had this kind before, tasty!”
“One of my favourites.” Touya says as he happily eats his own, “your wings are really cool.” Touya crouched down before Touya staring in awe at his red wings, “are they soft?”
Keigo shrugged, tossing the wrapper behind his shoulder. Touya huffed and stood up, running behind Keigo to pick the wrapper up and shove it into his pocket. “Only if I look after them. Did you know birds get a thing called blood feathers? Well, guess who also gets them! Pain in my ass…” Keigo mumbled, ignoring Touya’s snicker.
“You think that sucks? My own quirk hurts me, guess we got the short ends of the stick, huh?”
“I guess...what’s your name?” Keigo asked, placing the last piece of chocolate in his mouth.
“Touya!” Both of the boys jumped, wondering who on earth could be calling for Touya until they both glanced over at the shop, where the owner was waving his arms, pointing at the watch on his wrist. “Shouldn’t you be getting home?!”
Glancing down at his own watch, Touya let out a yelp. “Ah, I’m so dead...hope you liked the chocolate!” Keigo couldn’t even get a final word out, not even a thank you as the white-haired boy took off out of the park. He could hear him shout a ‘thank you!’ to the shop owner as he ran on by. Keigo leaned his head against the cool metal chain, smiling.
“You’re back.” Keigo followed the arm up to the eyes of Touya, who just grinned.
“Mister told me you’re practically here every day. And it’s the weekend now, so we can become friends if you want.” Touya pushed the chocolate bar in Keigo’s hand. “Is there a reason you come here?”
Shrugging, Keigo pushed himself off the swing set seat, walking stiffly away in a haze, thinking. “...Reasons.” He said, glancing over his shoulder at Touya, “I just like to get away from...home.” Touya let out a scoff.
“Oh, I’m the same! It’s good to get out sometimes, you know?” He grinned as he slapped his hand on Keigo’s shoulder, “anyway, let’s hang out since you don’t seem to do anything every day. You know, if you were in your twenties, you’d be considered an introverted loser!”
Keigo’s cheeks puffed out. “I’m not a loser! Bet I could kick your ass!” Touya just laughed and started to run off.
The water stream was peaceful to watch. A little duck was happily enjoying its time gliding down it, sometimes dunking its head under the water for a few seconds before popping back up, shaking its entire body. Touya laid back on the grass, staring up at the clouds. He tried imagining all the different shapes they make. “You don’t want to go again?” Keigo asked, grinning down proudly at Touya. He was way more energetic than Touya gave him credit for. Upon first seeing him, Touya genuinely thought he never even ran in his life, but Keigo was probably way more athletic than Touya.
“You know, you’d be kind of popular at school, girls seem to love confident idiots like yourself,” Touya said, smiling at Keigo. He was way too tired to have another round of having his ass beat up.
Keigo stuck his tongue out, sitting down next to Touya with crossed legs. “Girls are lame...and probably have diseases. That’s why you shouldn’t kiss them.” Keigo whispered that last part, in fear of a girl hearing and beating him up for saying it. Touya laughed.
“Yeah, probably. I have a sister. She’s kind of cool. She’s a lot smarter than me so she helps me with homework.”
“Do you only have a sister?” Keigo asked.
“I have a younger brother and a new baby brother. He’s kind of cute, but he makes a lot of mess so I don’t like going near him too much. Fuyumi adores him though, she loves taking care of him with mother.”
There was a thick silence between the two of them. Touya’s eyebrows furrowed as he glanced to the side, looking at Keigo, who stared longingly at the water stream. “I don’t remember my mother.” Touya frowned.
“I can’t imagine not knowing my mother. I love her so much, She used to read me to bed every night but now she’s too busy with Sho.” Touya sat up, “so. Are we in agreement?”
Keigo tilted his head to the side. “Agreement?”
“That we’re friends.” Touya grinned, sticking his hand out. Keigo scoffed and pushed Touya over roughly.
“Only if you have another round with me, snowflake!”
“He’s going off again,” Fuyumi said as she tried the mug in her hang with the tea towel, frowning as she watched her brother run out of the house. “Do you know where he’s going?” She turned to Natsuo for help, but he was too busy trying to take another cookie out of the jar, tongue sticking out. He finally got what he wanted, cheering happily as he took a large bite. He looked at Fuyumi, swallowing quickly and wiping his mouth.
“No idea, but he usually comes home with dirt on his clothes. Maybe he goes to the woods to play alone?”
Fuyumi’s eyes widened. “You know that's dangerous! Why haven’t you said anything to him!”
“What makes you think he’ll listen to me?” Aked Natsuo who merely shrugged, “he’s fine, he’s the oldest, he can handle himself I’m sure. He’s been going there for years now if something was going to happen, it’d happen now.”
Twigs snapped under Touya’s boots as he sped off through the trees, dodging every branch in his way. “Oi, Bird-brain!” He shouted, a grin on his face as he neared the stream, where Keigo stood. He was wearing that muddy brown shirt that Touya actually really liked on him. It was baggy and clearly not his size but nonetheless, Keigo seemed to suit it. Keigo smiled brightly upon seeing Touya.
“Hey, Snowflake!” He held up his hand, giving Touya a high-five. “It’s hot out, ready?” Touya was already kicking his shoes off. When he looked up, Keigo was already holding his hands out to Touya, who took them happily.
Giggles filled the forest as Keigo flew down over the stream, Touya hanging from his hands. “Don’t drop me!” Touya yelled, laughing as Keigo lowered himself a little so that Touya’s feet hit the water, splashing it everywhere.
“Stop wiggling and I won’t drop you then!” Keigo shouted back. He snickered as he flew over to the grass, lowering down slowly until Touya’s feet touched the ground and then dropping himself. “Told you I wouldn’t drop you.” Keigo leaned towards Touya, pressing his lips to his cheek, “If you fell I’d feel bad, you know that.”
He didn’t even notice how frozen Touya got, eyes wide. Touya reached up, touching his cheek, which was now bright red. Keigo took a step back, confused. “W-was I not supposed to kiss you?” He asked before slamming his hands over his mouth. “You, uh, don’t like gu-”
“No! I mean, I...don’t know, I just didn’t expect it. It wasn’t...unwelcome.” Touya puffed his chest out, “caught me off guard is all. Didn’t know you were into guys, bird-brain.” He reached down, grabbing Keigo’s hand and pulling him closer, “It’s not a bad thing. I wouldn’t be opposed if you did it again...if you wanted to.” Keigo smiled and leaned closer, kissing Touya on his lips this time. Touya let out a small gasp, cheeks burning red, hands sweating. He closed his eyes quickly, enjoying it for the five seconds that it lasted before Keigo pulled away. “At least you know I don’t have a disease.” Touya jokes. Keigo let out a huff and punched Touya lightly on the shoulder before laughing.
Wincing, Touya reached up, grabbing his shoulder. Keigo’s head snapped so fast towards him, Touya was worried it’d fly right off his body. “What’s wrong?” Keigo asked, grabbing his friend and forcing him to sit down on the grass.
“Nothing,” Touya said, smiling, “just training a lot lately with dad is all. Don’t you start worrying too! Bad enough I have my sister on my case about it.”
Keigo pulled his legs up to his chest, frowning. “I’ve known you for three years now, I’m allowed to worry.” Keigo said, leaning forward to pinch Touya’s cheek, “we’re friends. You’d tell me if something was wrong, right?”
A smirk on his face, Touya leaned closer. “Do you kiss all your friends?” Keigo’s face erupted into a bright red.
“S-shut up!” He covered his face with his hands, shaking his head. “I hate you!”
“Nu-uh! You wouldn’t kiss me if you did! Come on, give me another!”
“No! Go kiss that bird over there!”
“You’re the bird I want to kiss though!”
