There was one thing about Wriothesley that felt safe. Perhaps there was two things, two reason as to why he felt safe. At first, it was awkward as most relationships would be but gradually you realized that underneath that attitude of his was a clingy puppy.
One is that he reaches to you out of affection, not out of possessiveness.
Two, he loves whispering, "My pretty baby." in your ear, and it will always make you shiver in the best way possible.
Wriothesley is clingy. Not in a clingy whiny but clingy in a way that he wants his hands on your skin, he needs you pressed on him.
His favorite part of the day would be you slipping in his arms and curl on his lap even when he needed the stack of papers on his desk done. Being busy + you in his arms while he's busy? Favorite combo.
Because now he can finish work while touching you, knowing you're this close to him.
Unless, well, a certain idea pops inside your head and you would look up at him through your lashes and oh boy, does he melt and before you know it, his hands are already on you, pulling you closer to him.
You're not a weakness to him, you're a distraction.
You're the only distraction he let himself have, he liked it when you need his affection the most (and he would tease you first before giving you what you want).
When you get sleepy, that's when the whispering comes out. Wriothesley would kiss your temple and whisper, "Sleepy? Do you want to sleep on the couch or stay here?" Because your comfort is his top priority.
And you would always fall asleep still on his lap, especially when he continues to whisper;
"Sleep, sweetheart."
"I'll wake you when I'm done."
It was always accompanied by him kissing the side of your head like he was lulling you to sleep, and eventually he felt your breath become even, your face on his neck.
That's why you felt safe with him, he reaches out to you naturally — as if the mere idea of you away from his touch, from his arms, from his reach was absurd. He didn't know where to put his hands when you're not there, not a day goes by where he wouldn't kiss a spot on your face.
That's just how he shows his love for you.

Xiao:
You watched Xiao from afar, silently yelling at him to be careful and simultaneously praying he made it back without any injuries. This was the second swarm of zombies in five days and even the mighty Yaksha had to be getting tired, after all, he'd brought you to a roof far away instead of keeping you close to him like usual. His actions had you panicking and yet all you could do was sit and wait.
You leaned forward just slightly as he disappeared behind a group of abandoned buildings, hoping he came back into view quickly.
But minutes passed...and nothing.
Tears sprang to your eyes and worry gripped your heart. He'd told you to stay quiet but you couldn't bare it, "Xiao!?" you shouted, standing up on wobbly legs. "Xiao????!"
Where was he? Was he....no. No you refused to even think it. "Xiao!"
Suddenly strong arms wrapped around you and you nearly shrieked until he spoke, "I'm here. It's okay."
"What happened?? I lost track of you and you weren't answering and-"
"I know, I'm sorry. I found someone...someone I used to know, they'd been turned and...I hesitated. It won't happen again."
You nodded, already hearing more of the dead in the distance, "I'm sorry for your loss..."
"Me too...hold on tight, we got to move."
Alhaitham:
"Alhaitham...what if this doesn't work?" You stared at the syringe in front of you, the key to possibly saving your world as you knew it. If this didn't work...neither of you knew what else to try. It had to work. To save teyvat and hopefully some of the turned...it had to.
"It will." He sounded confident, hell he looked confident as he loaded the syringe into the specially made gun you'd created. "I'll be back in a hour."
He started to leave, but you stopped him. "Promise?" It might have sounded pathetic and realistically you knew a promise meant little when you were being chased by man eating monsters, but you still wanted to hear it.
"I promise."
*A hour of anxious pacing and horrible thoughts later*
"Alhaitham- KAVEH?!" You shouted, hurrying over to help Alhaitham move Kaveh into the chamber the two of you had built. If everything went according to plan...he'd reverse back. Probably shaken and sick, but no longer infected.
"It worked."
"We don't know that yet." You sucked in a hopeful breath despite your words and for the first time in what felt like decades you smiled.
Alhaitham didn't show as much emotion, but you could feel the relief pouring off of him as he kissed the top of your head stiffly. "It will work."
Navia:
"This one's got your name on it!" Navia shouted, firing at the nearest horde of the dead as you hurried through the path she'd cleared. Your muscles hurt, your clothes smelled like rotten meat and your heart was beating so fast you could hardly catch your breath.
You just needed to get the food into the safe house.
"Keep going partner! I've got your back!" Navias voice swallowed up your thoughts and within minutes she'd guided you home. Not a scratch or zombie to be seen.
"That was-way to close." You choked out, holding your bag of spoils in front of you as she locked the door securely.
"And yet you did perfect!" She wrapped her arms around you in a tight hug, making the situation of teyvat fall away for just a moment.
Wriothesley:
"Stay close. If they spot us we run, no questions. Understand?" Wriothesley hunched over, making himself less noticeable to the zombies currently munching away on the bait you'd placed. This was a risky move, being so close to so many of them at once, but with great risk could come great reward and both of you were heavily eyeing the storage facility in the distance.
"Understood. Move slow, stay low." You recited and started to make your way past them, as quietly as possible, despite the fact your heart was thundering in your ears like a drum.
Wriothesley stayed close behind, never letting you out of his sight till finally you reached the first unit. "I'll freeze the lock and you-"
"rrrrrrrggggrrrr"
You froze, feeling the blood drain from your face. That sounded far closer then you would have liked. "Wri-"
"Shhhhh" Wriothesley held a finger up to his mouth and you watched in horror as a zombie stumbled just a few feet away. Too close, way way to close.
Your breath caught when it's milky eyes met yours, staring right through you, like you weren't even there....you wanted to scream, to run, but Wriothesleys fingers intertwined with yours and the simple touch gave you strength until finally the zombie meandered away.
"I thought we were-" You croaked out, unable to finish your sentence while Wrio scooped you up, holding you against his firm chest.
i think despite being quite the charmer, wriothesley is terrible with his own words around you. he stumbles, and stutters, huffs and puffs when he has to start over. it’s adorable, truly. his lips in a pout and his cheeks flushed.
its even worse when you’ve been in an argument and he’s coming back with his tail between his legs. at that point, his go to is usually just a present that he knows will convey what he can’t say. tickets for two to the opera that say, “i love you, i’m sorry i haven’t been home. i’ll do better.” a lunch personally delivered to your work that says, “i’ll take better care of myself, i know it worries you. i promise.” he kisses your forehead when he leaves, another silent promise. you understand even when he has trouble conveying things verbally— and you notice his ears are red as he passes through the threshold of your office door. you can’t believe he still gets flustered to kiss you after all this time. you also can’t wait to tease him about it later.
