Being an idol meant that Jaejoon’s schedule was often packed. It was rare when he didn’t have a schedule or when he had a break or holiday. Whenever Phoenix was granted a break in their schedule, Jaejoon would use the time to rest, focus on his music, or meet his brother. Don’t get him wrong, he loves being an idol, but the schedules can at times build up and drain him. That’s why he was always thankful for a break so he could use it to recharge and reset himself. Moments like this were rare for him and he wanted to savour this moment before his schedule became jam packed again.

Jaejoon turned to the female beside him and nodded. ❛ I’d love to. I’m always happy to enjoy a beautiful view like this. It’s peaceful up here too which is good. ❜ He smiled softly. Jaejoon was a very energetic and bubbly person who bounced through life. However, there were times when he would be calm and quiet and just enjoy his surroundings. ❛ Whenever you want to come here and look or if you need to relax just let me know and we can come back up here. ❜

He let out a content sigh as he looked around. He was happy. Genuinely happy. ❛ My break? It was good. I did, I did. What about you? How was your break? Get up to anything interesting? ❜ He turned his head in her direction and smiled brightly.

Jimin sighed. It was weird how much she loved that place that was the complete opposite of what she liked doing. Always a ball of energy, Jimin had to be in constant motion, getting bored or even anxious if she stayed in the same place doing nothing much for too long. That was the reason why had never liked school and why any other profession would have been a mistake. Yet in that roof, everything was at peace and she liked it. Maybe those were the times her body and mind decided to relax together, or maybe she simply was growing up. Whatever it was, she liked it.

"I went home. And it was all the stars aligning, but my brother also had some time off. We got to spend time together, the three of us, as a family like we hadn't in a long time. It was nice." Sure, it had been nice. A bit weird at first, all of them tiptoeing around each other because they didn't know how to act living under the same roof. It was normal, she supposed. Her dad was now used to living alone, her brother had his own life, and Jimin had been living with Etoile for too long that it had been just different, and not really in a good way.

"Oh, I got something for you!" Jimin reached into her bag for a small box. "Consider it a late Christmas present, but I hope you like it!" It was a knitted blue and grey scarf with a matching pair of gloves. She had made them during the break whenever she got the time, and she thought they looked cute.

there’s always some kind of special stage or event during days that are meant to be, well, special. in this case, it was the upcoming valentine’s day music event that involved etoile having to cover another song. yurim thinks that they’ve been doing a lot of covering the past few months, but the end of the year and the beginning of the year is filled with holidays and occasions so it makes sense. 

she and jimin had been practicing for the upcoming event when they decided to take a break. while yurim wasn’t usually one to care about reactions or judgments made onto her as an idol, that didn’t stop her from scrolling through comments made about her. sometimes, when they were good, they could be good motivation to push herself a little further. though, that was a pretty rare occasion. 

today, she decided to go onto her latest post on etoile’s instagram post to read the comments. she’s barely a pretty face so i don’t get why she’s there. if yurim acted like she cared a little more than maybe i’d care about her too. totally undeserving of her spot in etoile. truthfully, it was the same old that she’d been hearing since her debut that she was starting to find them all uncreative. “you’d think people could come up with some different hate comments, don’t you?” she asks while turning her head to look at her member beside her.

Jimin absolutely loved special stages, those were always a lot of fun. If they got to cover some other group's song, that was even better. But really, there was little to nothing that didn't make Jimin happy, because being on the stage was always good no matter the song. With everything Etoile had been dealing with since even before their debut, having the chance to be part of one of these events was always good because they didn't know how long it would last.

This time, however, Jimin had to admit that learning the choreography was a bit more difficult than their own. She could blame it on the fact they just had a break and now that they had returned, she was once again getting used to it. But the truth was that Jimin was so easily distracted by everything, and while for their own songs they usually had more time to learn a practice, here they had a bit of less time. Jimin, as clumsy as ever, was struggling.

The floor was cool as she lay staring at the ceiling. It would be so easy to fall asleep, in just a few minutes. And she was considering when Yurim spoke and Jimin turned her head to the side, a bit confused. When she noticed the phone in the other's hand, everything made sense. There was a time when Jimin read every comment and felt bad about it, and that had started affecting her. Then she realized that the only thing she could do was to give her best. "They're not that creative. It gets repetitive after a while, you know." Sighing, she pushed herself to sit up. "You shouldn't read that, it isn't worth it."

Jaejoon loved holidays because not only did it allow him a break from his busy schedules, but it also allowed his brother a break and that was the best thing. Taejoon was often so busy that Jaejoon found it hard to even bump into his brother briefly. His brother was naturally amazing and so it’s no surprise that he was so popular. He just wished he could see his hyung more.

Taking risks was something that Jaejoon did often (mostly because he was so oblivious that he didn’t realise he was taking a risk). So when they made their way to the rooftop, Jaejoon thought nothing of it. After all, it’s not like they were doing anything serious. Sometimes, he’d come up here when he needed to think about something. The sky was beautiful today as the sun started to set and Jaejoon smiled softly at the sight.

He nodded and followed Jimin further onto the rooftop. Sometimes, it was fun to sneak away and eat the forbidden. He knew he shouldn’t be doing this since Phoenix were preparing for a comeback but he couldn’t help it. He nodded as he looked around slowly. ❛ I forget how beautiful it can be up here. Or outside even. We’re inside so much that it’s easy to forget what the sunset looks like. ❜

Now that was a sad reality; if they weren't practicing, they were recording, or they have a schedule. There wasn't much free time when they had their fans waiting for content and new music, and Jimin was happy knowing there were people out there supporting them. But as short as the winter break was, she had enjoyed it thoughtfully. Considering their days, how they were times she arrived at Yuseong before the sun even came out or returned to the dorms when it was already dark outside, seeing the sunlight through the windows whenever there was a short break, it had been a very welcomed change.

"We can always come here, whenever you want. Or, you know, whenever you have time." It would be nice to have a moment in the middle of their busy schedules, even if only a couple of minutes. Life as an idol was never easy, especially when Etolie was still fighting to show their talent. But Jimin wasn't going to give up, even if she didn't see the sun in the longest time. It would be worth it, she was sure of it. But coming up here from time to time would do wonders to her mood. And if she got to share with a friend, all the better.

She grabbed a bag of honey butter chips, happy for the chance to eat it without having to rush. It was highly unlikely that anyone would come up at this hour and find them, so Jimin allowed herself to relax. "How was your break? Did you have lots of fun?" She asked, genuinely interested in anything he had to say.

Call him a workaholic. Seojin could hardly go one day without coming into work or impulsively scribbling down incomprehensive notes in his journal. During one of his writing frenzies, Jimin’s name — or rather, her voice — crossed his mind more than once. With his lack of experience working on songs for a female artist, he needed all the help he could get. 

Recording guidance tracks with his own voice had never quite matched as well. His timbre or tone would always be off just enough to interfere with the entire feeling of the song. It was not for a lack of his own vocal skill but rather the need for a proper fit — and he wasn’t shy enough to not consider the main vocal of Etoile for his next project. The success of the song that would initially be meant for Arcana hinged on getting just the right touch from an idol.

Shoving the last bits of a protein bar down his gullet, Seojin turned toward his guest of honor with nothing less than his usual cheeky smirk. It relieved him to no end to know Jimin was a good sport with him. “I’m glad you found your way alright, though.” Lanky fingers immediately began clicking at files on his computer, bringing up various software along with digital sticky notes. 

“By the way… Thanks for coming on such short notice. Just… it’s kinda urgent I get this done and submitted to the company before they plan anything severe without me. I’ve never been as determined as I am right now with this. Like, it’s writing someone’s debut song.”

Carefully she grabbed one of the cups and placed it on his desk. Jimin was the clumsiest person around, but even she could pay enough attention when it came to serious matters. She knew that everything in that studio was expensive, and more importantly, of great value to Seojin. "I brought you a coffee, I hope you like it." She could have texted to ask if he had a favorite drink, but it hadn't seemed relevant when she had bought it. For a coffee drinker like Jimin, anything was good as long it had enough caffeine and sugar in it.

She crossed the room to take a seat on a couch, nodding at his words. "Always happy to help. The dorm is always empty lately, so I'm grateful for the distraction." Silence was nice, but Jimin got bored easily whenever there was nothing to do. At the mention of someone's debut, the girl smiled at him, finding it fascinating. "That sounds like a pretty big deal." And the fact that he was in charge of it made it even better - it meant people believed in his talent, as they should. "But I wouldn't worry if I were you, I'm sure it's an incredible song."

Taking a sip of her coffee, Jimin realized she had to do her best so he wouldn't have any issues. "Honestly, I don't mind staying until it's done. You're giving me something to do, so thank you for that." Jimin usually got herself in trouble if she found herself without anything to do for so long, and while she could just try a new hobby, this made her feel like she was doing something meaningful.

despite the fact that sia pretty much refused to acknowledge the genuine affection that most of the etoile girls actually showed her, she was undeniably–perhaps, one of the most pampered girls in the team, despite having rather openly disagreeing with the direction that etoile was going, and how their sound was specifically like. 

for instance, no one had a pillow fort in the living room of etoile’s dorm–sia’s bedroom was literally unlived in, the pillow fort that she had made out of her bedsheet, mattress and blanket from her original dorm room sat smack at the side of their sofa, right in front of the tv, with her game remotes and controls scattered upon the floor. 

the irony–that one of the most hated members of etoile would be loved amongst the members, even if she didn’t really realise it herself. 

naturally, as she always was, sia wriggled in the bundle of bedsheets in the living room, having smelt the bibimbap even before jimin had started making her way towards the direction of her room down the corridor.

first, a hand peeked out from beneath the warm mess, then a foot–before a muffled moan. 

“ jimin….” she whined slightly, just loud enough for the other girl to hear her, finally popping her head out of the pillow fort, eyes half closed and pink hair messed around her head. “i’m out here.” she reached out her hand towards the blank air somewhere above her astutely, as though expecting it to be caught by the other girl out of familiarity. “at the pillow thing in the living room.” she slinked out of the pillow fort with an effortless meld of her body to the ground, rolling over onto her stomach as she sighed into the carpeted floor, lifting a foot to scratch the back of her other foot in a sleepy show of pure laziness. 

“ you know, sometimes i wonder what the world would be like if we didn’t need to eat at all.” 

Of course, she should have known Sia was in her pillow fort. But the living room had been so quiet that Jimin hadn't even considered it. With an endeared smile on her lips, she returned to the kitchen just to grab the plates and made her way towards the living room. Sia's pillow fort looked extremely cozy and warm, and Jimin imagined the best naps were taken in it.

Humming in thought, she sat on the fluffy carpet and placed the food in between them, looking at her sleepy unnie. How could anyone be this cute? Adorable, that was exactly the word she would use to describe Sia. Oh, but she wouldn't dare to ever voice out her thoughts, not wanting Sia to feel uncomfortable. After all, Jimin cared so much for the other girl, and she wouldn't do anything that could make her feel like she had to change anything about her.

Nonsensical conversations were right up her ally, and Jimin took a moment to gather her thoughts, as if the meaning of the universe could be found in whatever answer she had. Momentarily forgotten was the food, warm enough to wait until Jimin had considered all the possible answers that had flown right in her mind at Sia's words. Which hadn't been a question, but Jimin still accepted the challenge.

"We would have to sleep more, I suppose. We gain energy through food, so we would have to rest longer to compensate. The problem would be the vitamins and all the nutrients we get from food, you know. Sure we can take supplements, but it wouldn't be the same." In a true Jimin fashion, she sat there and gave it a real thought.

After a few moments, Jimin remembered the food she had prepared and handed Sia her dinner. "Food is great though. Look at the delicious bibimbap I made." Well, Jimin was a foodie and couldn't hide it. Anything was delicious, never a picky eater. It was the reason why there were always snacks in her bag, even though she shouldn't eat half of them. As long as no one knew, then it was fine.

"Unnie," she said as she picked up her plate. "You can play while we eat dinner, I can watch you." Call her weird, Jimin absolutely loved watching video games when other people played, not one to play it herself. Of course she could do it, but she enjoyed it more when someone else did all the job. In fact, she even followed many YouTubers just to watch their walkthroughs.

if tina is dreaming, they better not wake her up. she can barely believe that jimin is standing right in front of her, let alone the confidence she has in her chances of debuting. it makes the tears dwell up in her eyes, which she tries to dodge by lifting her head up and gently patting her under eye area. what do they say about meeting your idols again? that it’s not worth it? well, sucks for those who relate to that. she certainly doesn’t. “thank you so much for believing in me! unnie, you’ll make me cry,” she whispers in between a light chuckle as an attempt to laugh it off, mostly because she doesn’t want jimin to think of her as a crybaby.

“i’ll send the picture to you as soon as i can! i’ll ask the staff and everything!” she turns around to the aforementioned staff, who is already nodding along to her proposed idea vigorously. by now, he probably accepted his fate as tina’s number one errand boy. “how should we pose? where do you want to stand?” she begins to tiptoe around the small space, trying to find the ideal spot for a good shot. nope, they can’t take the picture by the table, it’s too messy… maybe by the wall? “n-not that i’m saying it matters much! all of your sides are gorgeous and you would look amazing anywhere!”

Jimin remembered her time as a trainee, and although being an idol hasn't really been her goal, it had become a priority at some point. It was all part of this life, she supposed, working so hard for a chance. She loved Etoile, but it hadn't been easy. And before debuting, she wondered if the public would enjoy their music. Of course, she had imagined everything through some rose-colored glasses, which only led to a reality that wasn't as kind. But Tina didn't need to know that, and Jimin didn't want to ruin it for her. Because every group was different and she hoped Tina never had to face how cruel people could be.

"Please do! I'll add it to my gallery." It was no secret that Jimin was a big fan of, well, everybody. Collecting pictures with other idols as she did photocards, and this was special, pre-debut stuff always was. Tina's excitement was endearing and Jimin found herself smiling as she looked at the other girl trying to decide on a pose and the perfect spot for a picture. "Oh, don't say that!" Jimin laughed, blushing a little. "I'm nowhere near as pretty as you! I'm sure that any place will be great for this. And I think we can go to the corridor over there for a moment. The lighting is good and it will only take a minute."

As expected, no soul noticed they were leaving the stage, not that it mattered much when they still have some time before midnight. "You know, if you ever need anything, you can always text me. I'll give you my number." She was trying to be a good sunbae, but also to make a new friend. Life before debuting was busy, but it could also be overwhelming. Jimin had been lucky to have people offering a break from all of that, and she would like to do the same for Tina.

It was all in her head, or at least Jimin told herself as she stared at the phone in her hand. The song had been changed at least three times without her doing anything, and she was sure the shuffle function wasn't on. Jimin hadn't been afraid of the practice room's ghost since she was a trainee, going as far as to joke about it now. But some things couldn’t be ignored, especially those that couldn't be explained. Without much thought, Jimin put her hoodie on and grabbed her bag, wanting to get out of there as soon as possible.

Rushing out of the room as if her shoes had wheels, Jimin didn't notice the person walking down the corridor until it was too late and they bumped into each other. Not her proudest moment, but the girl gasped as if she had seen a ghost, her heart beating so fast against her ribcage it hurt and it took her a few moments to focus. This was exactly the reason why she shouldn't pay attention to anything Ikhyeon ever said.

When she realized it had been Taejoon, embarrassment washed through her as soft pink painted her cheeks. "I'm so sorry, sunbaenim!" She bowed a few times, hoping the other wasn't annoyed. Jimin would understand if he were. "I was just- Um, do you mind if I walk with you?" It was late and there weren't too many people around. Whilst she wanted to pretend she wasn't scared, she couldn't deal with the idea of being all on her own.

The dorm was in complete silence, which wasn't too terribly bad. There was something very calm about an empty dorm, giving Jimin the time to move around without having to share the space. It wasn't like she minded living with five people, because she loved it very much. Having company was always nice, but doing her own thing was very needed from time to time. For example, making her own dinner in the way she wanted it. Jimin wouldn't call herself a chef, she never followed a recipe, she only added what she liked and what she thought could taste good together. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't, but she ate it knowing she had made it.

Tonight was no different, and she could proudly say that the bibimbap looked pretty great. It had rice, vegetables, beef, and fried egg, and the smell had her stomach growling and her mouth watering. This was good, more than good, it was delicious. And there was nothing better than sharing what she had worked on. After setting the table and serving two plates, Jimin realized it was too quiet.

It wouldn't be a thought if she were all alone, but she was sure that Sia was in her room. Or had she left without Jimin knowing? Anything was possible when it came to Sia and Jimin wouldn't have it any other way. Singing softly, she made her way down the corridor to one of the bedrooms, knocking as quietly as possible. "Unnie, dinner's ready."

suhyeon was not often the receiver of niceties, let alone gifts, so to be stopped on his way and given a scarf- one seemingly knitted by jimin herself -was a shock to his system, one that made him bark out a negative response. “i-i, yes, i know, but that’s…” backtracking, he gestures toward the soft grey bundle in her arms, warming himself up as he speaks with the flush that’s tinting his cheeks. “that’s a lot of work, isn’t it?” hope laces the question. it was impressive, the stitches and purl-work, but he almost wanted her to lie and say ‘ no, it’s so quick and so easy! no time was spent on you! ’ because shit, how was he meant to repay her? that’s what she wanted, right?

he spends time looking at the craftwork and the woman behind it all, their expressions matching in the way they can’t really be read. at least jimin isn’t visibly upset, suhyeon thinks. for a moment he wonders if everyone is gifted scarves by her and that is what irks him more than anything. at this conclusion ( that is more unlikely than accurate ), he sucks it up and lets out a sigh before apologizing. this is something he doesn’t do often, but when jimin deflates just the smallest bit, he can’t help it. remake it? at this he’s back to wondering if the task of knitting is as difficult as he’s made it out to be.  “the color is right, actually. i’d say too right despite not even asking me what i’d prefer… i’m clearly not much of a scarf guy, so i’ll need a styling tip or two.” 

"Uh-" It had taken her a while, but she thought that telling him exactly for how long she had worked on it would be kind of rude. It was a gift, after all, the fact that it had taken her three weeks to finish it wasn't really that important. "I guess so, but I enjoy doing it! It keeps me busy, something the members really appreciate. So it's no problem at all if you want me to knit another one!" Most likely the cold weather would get warmer by the time she finished a new one, but there was always next winter to wear it.

Jimin beamed at him. For someone as messy as her, knowing her hands were able to create something delicate and soft, something others liked, made her feel a bit better about herself. "You don't wear anything colorful," she muttered already distracted with the scarf, as it was something so obvious there was no point in adding it to the conversation.

Once she had carefully folded the scarf in half, Jimin moved closer to wrap it around his neck. Her lips in a pout, deep in concentration as her hands tied the wool into a knot, fixing the ends and adjusting it so it had some volume. "There you go!" Jimin stepped back to admired her work. "That's very stylish if you ask me." Well, she had seen the wardrobe unnies doing it many times, and she had learned a thing or two.
