this is not an ideal day for peter parker. though he’s always been grateful for his spider-sense and the advantages it gives him, today it’s been a burden. the overload of sensations he’s been experiencing is far from good—he can feel almost everything in town—every misfired power, every person tripping, every single event in the vicinity of the academy and town.
the hand coming up to swat at the air is more habit than anything else—he can tell it’s a person. more than that, he can tell it’s janet, can distinguish every single word she says, can even notice exactly what she’s wearing. somewhere in the periphery of his spidey-sense, a thousand things happen at once, and he has to keep his focus here, on the wasp in his face who knows him as professor peter parker, not as spider-man. “whoa, jan,” his own words make him wince, the overload of the cadence. “no squishing, promise.” he wants to make a joke about bug/bug solidarity but has enough of a mind on him to bite his tongue. “are you just hanging out or are you stuck in extra-extra-small size?”
‘ oh peter, thank god. i thought i was going to have to lecture someone on why small lives are important again, ‘ her fading aggression is clearly visible. it’s really the no longer present threat of being whacked into a wall or stepped on by last season shoes the caused her to relax. as long as one person knew she was shrunk, and didn’t feel the need to freak over it, then her chances of making it through a panicked hallway increased significantly, besides, she liked peter; an all-round decent guy, he had enough super friends for janet to consider him an honorary super-hero, even if he ... wasn’t one. ‘ stuck ; i don’t think anyone would want to be this size in a hallway, or in a crisis with no one to punch ... so i guess until there is one, technically just hanging out. ‘ the last part is added with haste, rushed and muttered. ‘ are you holding up okay ? no sudden powers, or anything ? i mean, you look a bit peaky; you'd be better seeing a nurse. ’

Cassie listened, nodding earnestly as she jan spoke, trying her best not to dissolve into excited giggles. she’d of course already taken it upon herself to plan a party for the woman. cassie figured when you spent so long in the quantum realm, there was a definite need for some extra oomph on your first birthday back. Cassie Lang wanted to give her just that.
“i don’t think you want my dad planning any party for you,” she lets herself giggle now, perhaps a little too hard for her statement, but she had to get the secret-nerves out somehow, “i mean, i’ve been a fan of his ideas since…. forever, but i’m biased,” she shrugs, deciding that doodling in her notebook was a lovely way to give her hands something to do as they spoke.
“well now i’m curious, what does your ideal birthday look like?” not that she didn’t already have plans in motion, but it didn’t hurt to ask, “i’ll tell you mine, but you first.”
‘ okay. true. i won’t tell scott you said that though, ‘ the remark came with an added wink. she loves parties, or maybe loved was the better term. she hadn’t been to one since she first came back, a one day planned shindig with all of her friends that ended with her having a panic attack in the bathroom over how much she’s missed // she’s determined for it not to be the same this time. ‘ well, first everyone should be there. mostly sans kids, you’re the exclusion. ‘ and hope, but hope isn’t her kid anymore / instead a grown woman ‘ oh. and a champagne fountain, chocolate fountain, most importantly everyone should be wearing my designs, i’m shocked at the fact they betrayed my brand these past twenty years, y’know ? but what’s the current party trends then ? i feel like such a grandma not knowing what’s currently intrend.‘
being small usually isn’t a problem -- HELL, at 5′2″ people already miss her in a crowd -- but being roughly 5′ less than that usually isn’t a problem, or wasn’t when it was an expected thing. this time falls into the latter, not only small, but unable to grow, and a large proportion of the student population unaware that trying to hit the buzzing noise that may be the wasp, or an actual wasp, was not a smart idea. ‘ hey, hey, watch your hands here ! god, professor coming through !!! ‘ not wearing her usual mic, the smaller voice box means a smaller, higher pitched slightly hard to hear voice. even if they can’t hear her, she hopes hovering at eye height might stop her from getting squished.

‘ in my experience; it’s less walk and more separated under tragic circumstances that take decades of therapy to fully get over, but -- ‘ it’s a rambling statement that she always uses before she gets to her point. it’s enough to humanise herself to other people, or her reasonings, which often either come off as ditzy or brazen. ‘ living a half life because you’re afraid of getting hurt isn’t really a life , take it from a woman with a lot of regrets.’

tony can’t help but chuckle at jan’s actions knowing that he must have been pushing her buttons. “hey now,” he comments doing his best to at least seem stern in that moment.”computer science has changed the world three times over don’t go insulting it, just because you don’t get it,” he spoke as jan was not one of the best minds he knew.
‘ it’s changed the world because it’s destroyed it; and yes i’m including you -- ‘ and her ex, that’s just an undiscussed topic around jan, ‘ -- fashion has never destroyed the world, in fact, it’s the lack of it that’s destroyed the world. WHICH brings me to my next point, when will you let me redo your wardrobe ? ‘ it’s no secret jan isn’t a fan of science // and it doesn’t take a genius to figure out why. see: failed marriage, psychotic genocidal ‘robot’ son, 73 missed dates, and 4 house fires.

“y’know, janet - i actually enjoy having ‘em.” its not a dig. not an intentional one, anyway. scott had more respect for the woman before him than he had EVER had for hank, and that was really saying something, when the latter had been his mentor. he just didn’t see the benefit in that no emotions life. they could suck, sure - but sometimes things had to be felt. that was life. “not everyone gets to be an unreadable pillar of absolute strength. we can’t all be you, is what i’m saying. i’ve got cassie, finn…- i never really knew what made a good dad, ‘til i realized it’s all just… empathy.”
‘ if you’re constituting that i’m unreadable -- ; ‘ she stops a laugh in her mouth // it’s forced, a dramatic. perhaps her real emotions are unreadable because she doesn’t acknowledge them / or manufacturers them ( you spent enough time alone, you become great at one man plays ). ‘ you have another thing coming. ‘ the groan ( borderline sign ), her cell slammed on the table. she has too much pride to explain what’s up / but just lacking enough to complain to whatever poor ear was nearby. ‘ also, you need more than just empathy to be a good bah, which also doesn’t constitute as feelings by the way -- god ! first people call me the ‘feelings’ avenger, like THAT means anything, and now i’m not allowed to publically denounce them? bull .’

“i’ve been getting free drinks all night, figured i should hydrate.” he squinted slightly, flashing her a smirk before taking a long chug of the water. “tonight had been great,” malcolm spoke in a definitive tone, finishing the water before motioning for a refill. “and i’m definitely gonna need an uber home.” during his sets, malcom became lost in his job and even though he would knock drinks back he never fully felt the effects until after all the action had died down.
‘ so you were hardly working, rather than working hard? ‘ she commented, mostly speaking into the rime of the glass. the laughter that follows is lighthearted / as is her nature, though perhaps amped up by the 3 .. 4, currently working on the 5th, drink. ‘ so you’re the dj , huh ? that’s a ... fun job; you guys still use vinyls nowadays, or is it all ... tech ? ‘

it was easy for hope to forget that for most of her life, she didn’t have a mother. janet was just a collection of pictures, blurry memories, and stories that were half-true, half-produced by hank to “ protect ” hope from the truth. it was easy to forget that the years had passed, and both women had aged, and grown, and changed. hope was just happy to have her mother back, but her words, although far too poetic for hope’s taste, were a reminder of how foreign everything could be to jan. how her perception of the world must have changed completely while she was “ dead ”. ❝ you’re getting a little too flowery, mom. ❞
it was an out-there comment from janet; unprovoked. an observation, she’d become used to musing out loud ( with no one to hear her; too small to even be heard ) she had forgotten now that people didn’t expect her melancholic comments, her notes of happiness, though still somewhat okay with her outbursts of aggression. her daughter’s words snapped her back to reality / what would normally garner a snappy comment, was instead met with the softest of smiles. ‘ sorry, sorry; i didn’t know stargazing was now a banned conversation topic between us.’ with so much left unsaid between them / or never said in the first place / finding a ground for conversation can sometimes be tricky between them. ‘ is ghosts a better subject for you?’

“Okay, bye!” Estela said before hanging up the phone. She ran a hand through her hair and sighed. “I’m an adult, and phone calls are still terrible.”
she wasn’t exactly listening in on the situation / but had simply been seated nearby idly flicking through some magazines. her smile is light as she replied, ‘ oh come, they’re not really that bad are, they ? i mean, unless the person on the other end is an absolute -- ‘ she catches herself before a curse stumbled out, but her harsh grimace of a smile effectively conveyed her message.
the flashing light and humidity of the club comforted the boy, in a very weird way. his eyes flickered between the sea of bodies and his turntables, there was sweat dripping down his forehead as he finished his set. when malcolm finished he gave his audience a bright smile and thanked them for coming out. “ i’ll be here all week.” he gave the ladies in the front a smooth wink before packing up his equiptment and headed to the bar. a low sigh escaped him as he plopped into the seat and ordered himself a water, wiping his forehead slightly. “what a night,”
you’d have to forgive a girl of her vices. sober for 20 years - not of her own choice - was enough of a break for a lifetime. clubs weren’t her scene, bars however were. wherever there was some kind of cocktail she could be lured there; like a horse to water, or ... a wasp to something. she glanced up, an outline of a smile. ‘ and yet you still ordered water. either you have a low standard of what a night is, or, ‘ eyebrows raised in conjunction with glass.

“now you’re just letting me down jan,” he comments shaking his head. if the two didn’t already have a great deal of trust between them. he’d said it before and he’d likely say it again. the wasp was always going to be his favorite avenger. “good superhero etiquette,” he nodded playing along before cringing once more. “alright yep, we’re definitely going to stop there before this manages to get any weirder than it already has,”
the first comment rewards another light elbow jab to the ribs ; her character to get worked up over everything / simply because she was a drama queen and ( kind of ) a brat. ‘ yeah // the class has no super hero etiquette. but at least no one falls asleep in it ! i’ve heard rumours about how dull computer science can be. no wonder your kid decided to ta one of my classes -- ‘
