Ride - Lana Del Rey
“I just–– I know what–– What liking leads to, y’know? And I don’t––” He wishes he could find the right words to say to make her understand the crazy, whipping thoughts that tangle through his mind. “I’ve… I’ve had feelings before, and they weren’t–– They just weren’t reciprocated, and I thought what I felt was love, and now I know that it wasn’t, and–– I want love, like–– That’s not–– I’m just not––” The blond rolled his eyes at himself for once again not being able to say what he’s thinking and feeling, which is something he used to be good at. “Y-Yeah, I’m–– Things are just––” He paused, making a weird motion with his hands that hoped came of as things are just crazy. “I’m okay, though… No worries, I’m just… Y’know… Trying to adjust to the changes about to happen just like everyone else.”
Dhalia could see that it was hard for Shay to describe how he felt. With his constant rambling and his movements, she understood that this was a difficult subject for him to talk about. “You can’t let the things that have happened in the past affect you like that...I just don’t want to leave knowing that things are weird between us, you know?” She missed how easy things used to be between them — how they could hang out for hours and talk about almost everything. She missed having someone like that in her life. “I get what you mean. I’m starting to learn now that change is much harder than I expected it to be.” She didn’t even try to hide the weakness in her voice, knowing that just thinking about everything being different next year was enough to make her sad. “But there’s no way to stop it, right? It’s just something that we all have to deal with. Even if we’re not ready for it.”
“I honestly don’t get it. Why the fuck would anyone participate in a white t-shirt contest just so they can get free shots? Like, are you that desperate and broke? It’s the most embarrassing slash saddest thing in the world. I’m actually praying for their souls right now. Jesus, Buddha, mother Mary.. amen.”
“I never understood why exactly people do that either. If you can’t afford to buy your own drinks, then you obviously shouldn’t be partying or whatever. Pray all you want, it’s going to take something a lot stronger to stop their stupidity.”
Simply shrugging as he pulled out of his spot, and drove out of the parking lot onto the empty streets, he said, “It depends. Theres no real set things, they just kinda happen.” Smiling a little as she mentioned the beach, he made a quick u-turn in the middle of the street, knowing he wasn’t going to get caught as he sped in the direction of the parkway. “Good choice.”
Dhalia nodded. “Thank you. I don’t usually go out much during nights like these. Besides sneaking out and buying tons of coffee and junk food — I basically waste the rest of my night stuck in my room watching crappy movies that make me cringe at how terrible the actors are. Pathetic, right?” She stared ahead, looking upon the deserted road. Something about the fact that most of Middletown was asleep made her feel more vulnerable, like she could tell Axel anything.
“Oh definitely ! Pft, totally didn’t fuck up my back a bit from trying to put on my socks—just a regular old soccer incident where another player ran into me and I landed funny on my back. It’s almost as bad as stubbing your toe but a little worse. Everybody’s been telling me to do yoga so I might just do that.”
“That story is definitely much less embarrassing. Also, it sounds more believable than a back injury simply caused by putting on a sock. I heard that yoga does a good job of relieving stress as well, so it might be good to give it a try.”
The moment he saw who he’d run into just moments ago, the tenseness of his shoulders dropped but his eyes widened just a little because it was Dhalia–– Dhalia that he hadn’t spoken to in a while and never gave her any explantation as to why or a single warning. “I-I–– I’m–– Uh, yeah.” His fingers clamped together in front of him and his eyes suddenly moved to a rock sitting on the park’s walking pathway. Then, it all just came out–– the words that threatened to spill every time he saw her in the hallway or around town suddenly bursted from his lips. “I’m sorry–– Listen, I–I know… I know I’ve been just–– I’ve been absent, and I‘ve just–– not been there for you or-or with you… I just… well, I–– You’re–– You’re leaving, right? And… I-I–– I was starting to really like you, and–– I see what Sage is going through with Theo leaving, and––” He stopped, finally picking his head up to look at her since he started his string of sentences that were barely qualified as sentences. “I guess I didn’t–– don’t ––know how to really… explain it, or myself, and right now is just–– so many things are all over the place, and–– I’m sorry.”
As she listened to Shay confess all of the things that he’s kept bottled up for all this time, Dhalia didn’t know how to respond. She couldn’t deny the fact that she missed him because she knew that she would be lying to herself if she did. The reason why the two of them suddenly stopped talking as often as they used to was unknown to her — but she had a feeling that her leaving soon had something to do with it. It was the cause of most of her current problems. “I-I like you too, a lot actually. I know I’m going to be away...but that doesn’t change the way I feel about you.” Since she never really told Shay how she felt about him, doing so now made Dhalia nervous for some reason. “It’s not your fault. I haven’t been there for you either, and I’m sorry for that.” She looked down at her feet for a moment, letting out a quiet sigh before meeting his eyes. She knew that something wasn’t right just by looking at him. “Are you really okay? You know that you can talk to me about anything, right? I’ll listen...”
“You’d be surprised on how much you can do at this time at night Dhalia,” Axel said, as the two approached his car. He couldn’t help but grin at his own comment. “But driving around sounds good.” Getting into his car, he waited for the redhead beside him to get in before starting the engine. “Where to first?”
Dhalia got into the car, furrowing her brows together at Axel’s comment. “Since you seem to be more of an expert at late night travelling than I am, what are some of the things that you normally do during nights like these?” She looked over at him, leaning back into the car seat. “Hm, the beach seems to be a good first stop. It’s really beautiful at night.”

angie: there's so much weird shit on netflix
angie: i don't get half of it
dhalia: i've watched so many weird things on netflix you have no idea
dhalia: it's gotten to the point where i've watched all of the good stuff and now i'm stuck with shitty movies and cheesy tv shows that make no sense
“Is that sarcasm I sense?”
“Yep. I’m glad you were able to catch on, maybe you do have some common sense after all.”
He felt… different. The entirety of this past week has made him feel like a different person, even though it’s not as if he found out his parents aren’t his parents–– He just found out they’ve been keeping an enormous secret from him that he hasn’t figured out what to do with yet. All of those swarming questions made him need space and time away from everything, including the people he loves, and normally when Shay’s away from his favorite people, he gets irritated. So when he was walking outside in the park, still thinking, thinking, thinking, and someone’s shoulder hit his fairly hard, the first thing out of his mouth was: “Hey, ever heard of watching where the hell you’re going? Pretty fun tactic.” But the moment the words left his mouth he knew that the harshness wasn’t him. A sigh left his mouth as he murmured, “Sorry” multiple times to the familiar face. “I didn’t–– I was just–– nevermind.”
After hearing her mother complain about how much time she’s spent at home, Dhalia figured that she should get out of the house. For some strange reason, she lost the motivation to go out like she normally did — actually, she lost the motivation to do most of the things that she once loved doing. She only left to the park so that her mother would stop with her constant nagging. She decided that she would take a few pictures with her camera while she was out. Dhalia walked aimlessly through the park with her head held low as she toyed with the camera, trying to think of the perfect place to take pictures. She quickly lifted her head up once she felt her shoulder make contact with someone else’s. Before she would mumble an apology, she was cut off by Shay’s harsh words. “I-I’m sorry. I wasn’t paying attention to where I was going...” Nodding at his apology, she noticed how he didn’t seem like himself. “Are you alright?”

@ddhalia: @jazzzzy what
“I know, it was seriously uncalled for. I bet if she saw me surf and realized how amazing I am, she’d apologize.”
“I bet that she was jealous of you and since she knew that you were obviously at a much higher level than her at literally everything, she had nothing left to do but try to make you feel bad about yourself, which of course didn’t work.”
