An Ode to Little Haiti
If you’re from Miami you probably have a friend that’s tatted on their chest, cause they’re a Zoe. The presence of Caribbean culture in Miami is undeniable and has served as the ultimate backdrop for most of my creative endeavors. Under the direction of community leader Viter Juste and the Miami Dade School District, the region historically known as “Lemon City” is now rightfully coined “Little Haiti. Although many of the residents are of Haitian descent, you find an array of different cultures. With sites such as the Little Haiti Cultural Complex, you find that Little Haiti strives to spread Afro-Caribbean awareness as a whole. Check out a couple of still images from South Florida photographer Smithoprahy as he captures the heart of this cultural hub.
