“ oh my - that doesn’t sound like too much fun. he must have been very drunk. “
“Excuse me? Are you implyin’ that someone has to be drunk to fuckin’ hit on me?”
“Yeah I mean you might be able to take care of yourself physically doesn’t mean it doesn’t mean it doesn’t take a toll emotionally-” Shelby stopped. “God I sound like my mums.” he said shaking his head and laughed. “well someone has to be around to make sure that the slags don’t take home the drunk girls.”
"Haven't you heard the rumors in Corland? I'm Sabrina Davenport -- I don't have a soul, let alone emotions." A slight snicker slipped through her lips at the very thought. "Right... I get why you're here but how the hell do you, someone that seems like more sunshine and whimsy than Mr. Rogers, work in a bar?"
“You’re not wrong about that dear. The best thing to do when men come at you is stare at them and just think murder.” She grinned at the younger girl. “Normally it works. Unless you’re looking for sleazy men.” She shrugged. She often went looking for sleazy men. They left very little ties and never tried to speak to her.
"Unfortunately, my resting face screams, 'talk to me and I'll rip off your limbs,' so staring at them and thinking murder doesn't really work." Sabrina's lips contorted, twisting into a slight, sinister smile, and she huffed out a light chuckle. "It sounds like you're an expert on the matter. Do you attract the nasty ones, too?"
“I’ve found it’s easier not to set the bar anywhere when it comes to men, because for every one guy that manages to climb on top of it, there’s at least twelve at ground zero going out of their way to limbo under it. Back in Savannah, a lot of girls wet their panties over guys just opening doors for them, so. Human decency is a reasonable standard, I think, but like. The bar literally could not be set any lower and yet.”
"I think that you might very well be the most intelligent person I've ever met in Corland. At this point, I've given up hope when it comes to men. They're unreliable, usually unintelligent, and for the most part, useless. Savannah, though, huh? I thought the stereotype was that the south was full of gentlemen and southern belles. What was it like, movin' up north and all?"
he didn’t have a lot of experience with women crying, but the moment she dropped her eyes, he knew that he’d fucked up. “ shit, brina, don’t… don’t cry. ” he cringed, not that she was about to cry, per se, but that it was his fault. “ i’m sorry. that was out of line. ” he ran his fingers over his face, unsure what to do exactly. “ fuck, ” he muttered, pulling her into his chest. “ i didn’t mean it, alright? fuck, i’m sorry. ” fuck, he was so far out of his element.
She knew as soon as she heard his mumbling, she would regret showing even the smallest amount of emotion. "I'm not crying, asshole," she huffed. Sabrina was fully prepared to run the other way she felt herself yanked towards him. At first, the small brunette squirmed against the embrace, pushing herself away, but that seemed futile. "It's fine, Basil." With her lips pressed against his chest, her words were muffled. "Let go of me before I bite you. Please."
“Really? I always assumed you would not have to deal with guys like that. The whole look you got going on kinda gives off the vibe you have a criminal record. Don’t even get me started on the hostile personality, I’m pretty sure you scare off anyone in a ten feet radius.”
"You know, Asher, sometimes I worry about how lonely you must be. Someone so whiny, judgmental, and generally annoying must have absolutely no one in their life. And then I remembered that you're probably best friends with a bottle of lotion and your hand. Please, if I scared off people that easily, you wouldn't be speaking to me right now. Fuck, I wish I did, then."
.
“Yeah I try to keep the girls away from the lad, but it doesn’t always work.” he said with a shrug. “I suppose because he gives the bar a lot of money. The world runs on money, sadly. Not much I can do about it. Are you alright though?”
“Right... It’s cool, I’ll have a talk with the owner next time he’s in the shop for another tattoo.” Sabrina sighed, shaking her head a bit. “I’m not blaming you, don’t worry. I’m fine, though. As much as I bitch, I’m a tough girl that can take care of herself. But tell me, how does someone like you work in a bar?”
he furrowed his brow, not entirely sure where the hostility was coming from. he took a step back, holding his hand up in surrender. “ jesus fuckin’ christ, sabrina, it’s not like i’m fuckin’ proposing to you. why are you reading so much into this? so fuckin’ what if i give a shit? ” he ran his fingers through his hair in frustration. “ when the fuck did i ever say i wanted anything more from you? jesus christ, sabrina. get your fuckin’ head on straight. ”
She was rendered speechless, a feat that very rarely happened. Sabrina glanced down at her feet and pulled her bottom lip between her teeth, pinning it there tightly until it felt numb. Never had he spoken to her in such a tone, even when she insulted him in the beginning. She could feel tears stinging her eyes, but she quickly blinked them away so that he wouldn't see. "Y-yeah," she breathed, her voice cracking as she spoke. "I never thought you wanted anything more from me in the first place, don't worry. I chose my words wrong. Sorry. But yeah, I'll work on that."
“god, i have no idea. i can’t lie though, if a cute guy calls me babe, and he catches me in the right mood, i may play along with it. though, sleazy guys saying it makes me wanna barf. did you punch him or something?”
“I don’t care if the guy is fuckin’ Johnny Depp in the flesh, if he’s drunk off his ass I want absolutely nothing to do with him. Unfortunately, no I did not punch him. I did tell him that if he spoke to me one more time, I’d kick his dick so hard that he’d never stand up straight again, though.”
“Yikes, I don’t even know what to say to that. Sit your pretty ass down. Is it 2009? Am I lost? You’d think maybe they’d have the decency or the capacity, really, to get some new material. That’s just…tragic. Did he at least say please?”
“I think that men that spend their afternoons soaking up to their eyeballs in alcohol have the mental capacity to do... well, jack shit. Of course he didn’t say please, he was complete scum. Y’know, I thought movin’ to Corland would get rid of them. Men in a small town are supposed to be charming, but I find they’re just as immature as the ones in more urban areas.”
“I dunno… Princess always sounds like the worst one coming from strangers. Most of them probably have wives and children, it makes me sad. You know I can’t be mean- I’ve tried! And unless I’m seriously pissed off it’s just pathetic. They’d probably laugh and call me ‘cute’ in that condescending tone…”
"I can understand that, yeah. To me, I've always been called 'princess' for being bitchy, or acting like a diva. When really, it's just because no one else is going to look out for me, so I have to act a bit self important at times. If someone calls me 'princess', it means I'm living my life right. Okay, so you might not be the scariest grizzly in the cave, but it doesn't mean you can't show some fangs. I hear being passive aggressive is a fabulous way into making a guy think you're nuts and scarin' him away."
focus on me.
he raised an eyebrow at her, letting his arm drop back to his side. “ but i’m a pro at drama. ” he shook his head, crossing his arms, mocking her position. “ who says i don’t got my own battles to fight, hm? just ‘cause you alerted me to earl and his chronic fuckish behavior doesn’t mean i’m fightin’ your battles. ” he studied her, eyes narrowed. “ i’m sure you can, brina, but you don’t have to anymore, ” he said, cracking a smile. “ don’t spoil my fun. ”
He was too close for comfort. At least, that's how Sabrina felt. Her arms dropped to her sides and the color drained from her face. "Basil," she muttered, her features contorting to a look of displeasure. "I don't think you understand. I don't want you to do that shit. We're just friends, fuck buddies really. I don't need anyone to take care of me, I don't want anyone to take care of me. If you think I want anything other than good company and rough sex, you're an idiot."
“ mmmmm…. no. “ he grinned. “ no one’s making you talk to me. i’m having fun, honestly. the whole point of life is pleasure and this is so enjoyable. “
Sabrina had little to no patience for people that teased and toyed with her. She had enough of that in her old life in Vermont, she'd be damned if she took it now. Craning her neck, she glared up at him with fire in her eyes. "Fuck. You." With that, she turned on her heels to walk away, yet stood still for a few moments to see if the blond had anything else to spew at her.
