”Hello able bodied/neurotypical person. In front of you is a person who requires medication in order to function. Your task is to listen to them talk about how this medication has improved their life without accusing them of addiction. If you fail, one thousand spiders will be sent to your exact location. Your time begins now.”

The Serbian Concubine by Jean Joseph Benjamin Constant, detail
I love Eva Stratt... that scene on the ship where Grace tells her she's mysterious and aloof and you can tell that kind of hurts her. she really does care about humanity, she's just not very good at showing it! she sings her one beautiful song to try to connect with everyone else, not to prove anything to them but so she can feel a moment of connection and camaraderie. and then she gets overwhelmed and goes "okay I'm done bye". I love my autistic friend Eva Stratt
today's warm up: Little selkie sibling wants to go play!! (1:25 hr)

i love project hail mary (and andy weir in general) so goddamn much because the overwhelming message, the one that you hear over and over again, is that it is always possible for things to get better. there is always a solution to be found. there is always someone who will help you. there are always friends, always answers, always a reason to keep going even when it seems so hopeless and terrible and lonely. and every time you hear that message you're like yeah. i know. sometimes i forget and things seem really dark. but you gotta keep going.
also there is a rock alien who's really good at science and i want him to be my friend so bad.

What was your favorite Redwall book? (apologies if I’ve asked already)
Favorite singular? Aw man, that's a hard one. Probably Taggerung, since that's the one that introduced me to the series (there was an interview with Brian Jacques in Nickolodeon Magazine). Though for the actual plot I appreciate that it has the distinction of having a "vermin" parent who's actually fairly decent, kidnapping thing aside, while at the same time there's a mouse with an absolute bastard of a bio-parent. Normally Redwall is very black-and-white with the racial morality and that one kind of blurs the lines.
Otherwise it's a tie between Pearls of Lutra, Mossflower, and Lord Brocktree. PoL has more of the moral line-blurring with Romsca, as does Mossflower with Gingivere, while Lord Brocktree is essentially a direct prequel to Mossflower. (It also shows that Tsarmina was, if anything, an outlier to the Greeneyes cat family, because Verdauga and his older brother were decent to their own subordinate if nobody else.)
Next favorite after all of those would be Marlfox, but that's entirely for shallow reasons. I just think the foxes' design concept is cool. XD
reading about the participation of children in rituals as a form of play in ancient greece and came across an incredibly charming story from julius pollux's onomasticon where a flood prevented the adults from reaching a sanctuary to sacrifice a ram to heracles, and the children solved the problem by....sticking a bunch of sticks in an apple to give it "legs" and "horns" and offering it as a sacrifice instead. it's such a charming thought and i can perfectly picture kids these days also pretending at sacrificing an apple "goat" at recess
catch me on the playground playing sacrifices
Belarus is disappointed but not surprised.
YOU CANNOT SEE ME
I just knew Beladruit teared up when he saw the design for Qifrey’s apprentices uniforms like what do you mean it's a sea foam color? what do you mean you gave them our original tassel???
