he’s got a cup in one hand, iced tea topped off with a fair ( invigorating ) amount of vodka & he’s sucking on it thoughtfully as he stares at the street, nodding, his voice soft and melodic. “i mean, i... disagree. i think if, gun to my head, i had to incorporate a mcdonald’s sauce to my sex life, it would definitely be sweet and sour. like yeah, it’s a little sticky, but it’s versatile. as long as you don’t stick it IN anything, it would probably be the tastiest.”
Life as Jeremy Burns’ assistant was never boring. Tech billionaire who was as brilliant as he was wacky? Celeste hadn’t known what to expect, but she had learned it was easier to simply Google ‘alarm clock/remote control’ patents than to tell him he was insane. Some of his products were genius, like adding a coffee pot to an alarm clock to brew coffee instantly, or a remote control that turned on a shower to the perfect temperature from bed.
“Yes, Mr. Burns, I’ll get right on that,” she said before hitting end on her phone screen and sliding it into her jacket pocket. New flavor of Ramen noodles that was only sold online or on Oahu? Her boss was insane. Dark eyes rested on the person ahead of her and she strode over. “Excuse me, do you know where an international grocery store is?”
adrian turns, his eyes falling to the floor in some mockery of demure, chewing his lipring and offering a hesitant nod to show he’s listening. he pauses, furrowing blonde brows, and hooks his hands in the exposed pockets of his paint-covered jeans, and then he nods again. “um -- well, what are you looking for ? there’s a russian bakery called gastronome three blocks away that way,” he points left, “obvious place, can’t miss it. lots of slavic characters. there’s also a quirky imports store down third ave,” he had done a lot of talking & his voice faltered after so much disuse. he pauses, thinking, and shuffling his feet. “i guess if you want just foodstuffs there’s a mart near the imports store that has an international section.” it was cheap, too. had good candy.
Day ninety of her job at the run-down little diner right off the beach and Rae was certain that this was the day she was going to bash someone over the head with her tray. She was tired of having her tips tucked into her apron pocket or the waistband of her shorts.
“Hi, I’m Rae, I’m your waitress. Yes, I’m single, you can’t have my number, and just a head’s up, if you ask me if I’m on the menu or tuck money into my apron strings, I’m going to bash you over the head with the tray. Got it?” she said, pulling a notepad out of her pocket.
adrian blinks, stunned. “i just — i... really don’t give a shit if you’re single or what your number is,” he finally says, confused, staring at the menu. not only is he also a waiter having an intimate knowledge of just what kind of bullshit clients come from this town, but he also has no patience for girls who are full of themselves. his voice is soft, and he’s running a hand through coiffed bleach-blonde, dye-streaked hair, thinking.
“you’re not my type. can i get a different server ? like -- or sit in another server’s section? i’m on my lunch, i work for the sushi place across the street, and i just... i don’t have the energy.” after a second he clears his throat, offering a belated: “no offense.” and honestly, he means it, even if he doesn’t mind defending himself when necessary.
Brando slid his portfolio to the individual in front of him in his shop, taking the liberty to open the first page. “Do you have something in mind? Or do you wanna see our flash art book? We can also talk about something you just want to represent.” His arms folded over the front desk of Ink Inc. and he leaned in, amiable. “I know a tattoo is a big deal. If you want, I can just draw it on. You can live with it a while before making a decision.”
adrian studies the artist, his eyes bright, quiet & watching. he had tattoos littering his arms + even on one hip, a collection of fleeting memories gathered from parties & high amateurs with ebay-bought sets. not safe, but it’s worked out so far. this is his first time shelling out for a PROPER artist and he’s not.... nervous, but he’s not sure where he stands, so he shifts a little. it feels oddly exciting, like something is going right in his life. “i guess i could look at the book?” he’s shy, obviously, worrying at his lip ring. he’s subconsciously scratching at his favorite tattoo— the one spanning his wrist and thumb —and continued, hesitant. “i don’t... i don’t think it needs to mean anything. i just thought they were pretty.” his tattoos are nature-themed and black and white, save the printer-color inspired dots on his ankle & the matchstick on his hip, but he doesn’t volunteer much more information. “i figured i’d just ask you to doodle, to be honest.” he cracks a smile, still glancing around the room. “only have one tattoo that means something,” that’s the matchstick, “and-- honestly, it’s my least favorite. is that pretentious ? i never know anymore.”

Tell me about your favorite piece of art.
hoffman’s notturno is beautiful. her eyes are so stunningly deep, there’s a personality there. it makes you think she could still be out there somewhere, watching, waiting. and i like greuze’s lament of the watch. it’s... i don’t know why. maybe the way she’s staring, the slump of her body. king ludwig i’s entire collection is breathtaking. he was a lucky man, collecting the best art from all around the world. i like 1800s impressionists and realists, too. rohden’s forest interior, and estude de paysage by marin... slice of life is amazing. like, um... quaglia’s residenzstrasse. it’s just, it’s breathtaking. i’ve never seen any of these in real life, but i think i’d sell my arm to go. like, to the pinakothek, um, to moma and to the louvre. maybe someday, right? maybe someday.
