Kristoff always found it to be a little bit of a challenge to get Scarlett to hand over any artwork that she had done, though he was never sure as to why she was so reluctant. She was incredibly talented and everything she did was amazing- even if he was a little bit bias. He took the book off her, observing the sketch on the page, a smile appearing on his lips as he looked back at her, “As always- this is incredible, Scar.”

Scarlett felt her cheeks grow hotter. She was rarely embarrassed around Kristoff anymore, but her work was such a huge deal to her. She was never sure if she was good enough, or if she had whatever it took to make a good artist. To hear it said out loud was always a surprise, in a way. “Thanks, Toffie.”

“My opinion may be biased because I always love your work, but yeah I really think so,” Eric smiled. “I forget, have you ever tried to sell your work or do commissions?”

Scarlett giggled. “Well, I’ll take praise wherever I can get it, so thanks.” She dabbed her brush on a blob of green sitting on her palette and pressed it on the canvas in short, fast strokes. “I’ve sold a few of my pieces online, but nothing super major, you know? Most of these are for class, anyway. Why?”

Andrina shrugged, “It was never mine either but I suppose I knew what I meant by eight,” She laughed, “But surely if you got the recipe, they’d be just as good. Besides, as grim as it is to think about, eventually your grandma won’t be making those cupcakes anymore. Someone has to take over.”

Scarlett scoffed. “My grandma has the recipe in her head and nowhere else. Very secretive about it. I think she’s waiting until she’s on her deathbed to pass it on to someone else. Maybe she’ll leave it in her will.” She shook her head at the thought of taking over the bakery. “I hope it’s not me. I want to be a long way away from here by then.”

“I think the law of averages is on my side. Eventually I have to be right,” Philip was sure that at one point, he had been right when talking to Scarlett but he knew rightly that she’d been right more times. Not that he’d admit to that, “I wasn’t talking about broody. I’ve been… angry and…” Philip struggled to think of a positive emotion that he’d felt over the past few years, “I’ve definitely been happy at some point. I’m always happy to see you,” He shook his head, “I know for a fact that there are some artists that haven’t been sappy and they’ve expressed that through their art.”

Scarlett shook her head. “Statistics doesn’t apply to me, sorry.” She liked to get the rise out of him, to rile him up and shake him out of his constant cool demeanor. “That’s no good. I bring happiness to everyone. I’m like a little happy fairy, going around spreading joy,” she said, bumping his shoulder playfully. “Blergh. The best artists wear their hearts on their sleeve. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.”

Nathan rolled his eyes as if it was some big chore and then took her hand while using his other to push himself up. “Let’s go,” he sighed, leading the way out of her apartment.

Scarlett hopped along behind Nathan as he led the way out of the apartment. “Yes! I’m the master of persuasion, see?”

Nathan pressed his lips together. “Mm. I don’t know if I can’t. I was supposed to model for this artist,” he made a face then. “It’s weird, though, because I have to pay to model for her and I’m pretty sure that’s not how it works out.” He knew he was being lame but he couldn’t help it.

“Ah-fucking-ha. You’re hilarious.” Scarlett jumped off her seat and held her hand out to Nathan. “Come on. This artist needs some waffles.”

“What are you working on?” Eric asked as he circled back to the room they had been in before. He stood behind Scarlett as she stood before her canvas, “It looks good so far,” he commented before taking a sip from his glass of water.

Scarlett shrugged one shoulder, scrunching her nose slightly. “I don’t know yet,” she admitted. She thought she’d take a break her newfound ability to accurately draw people’s faces and go back to what she was best at, but somehow this now felt foreign. “You think so?” she asked, honestly needing another person’s opinion on the matter.

“To the kitchen it is,” Eric said with a chuckle, glad to hear his friend laugh. It’d been a while since he’d seen Scarlett but the two always got along well. “You keep your glasses in this cupboard, right?” he asked, walking up to one of the cupboards in her kitchen.

Scarlett continued laughing as he disappeared into the kitchen. “Yeah, over the sink,” she told him, going back to her canvas. There was a landscape forming on there, but she didn’t know how she felt about it yet.

Nathan chuckled and nodded,” I can do waffles. Just tell me when and I’m there.”

Scarlett smiled, tilting her head to side slightly. “Are you doing anything right now?”

“I’d appreciate it.” He teased the other with a smile on his face, before looking at the other as she held the sketchbook to her chest. “I’m always nice, come on- let me see.” He said and nodded as she continued, because he would never laugh or judge his work because it was always amazing.

Scarlett considered him for a moment, but he was right. Kristoff was always nice. It was her favourite thing about him. “Alright,” she gave in. “Here.” She handed him her sketchbook, fiddling with her hands nervously now that she had nothing to hold onto.

“Alright, alright. You say this like I wouldn’t buy you anything you want to start with- who do you take me for.” He spoke, walking backwards out the door with a hand over his heart. “I’m offended, Scarlett.” He teased before standing against the wall while he waited for the other to lock up.

“I don’t know -- you’ve never bought me anything before,” she shot back with a raised eyebrow. She didn’t know why he was even doing this for her. Did she really look that bad? She hoped not. How pathetic would that be. Scarlett locked the front door and gave the door a hard tug to make sure the lock caught, before turning towards the street. “After you,” she said to Flynn, gesturing for him to lead the way.

He pressed his lips against her finger, kissing it gently as she spoke to whoever was on the other side of the phone call. His face followed her hand, nuzzling it gently as she spoke. “Are we really going to watch a movie?” He asked, raising an eyebrow. “I can think of many other, much better things to do instead. And we’ll both be just as entertained, possibly more so.”

Scarlett smiled as she felt Hans kissing her fingertip, tapping it gently against his lips, teasing. She laughed at his question, raising her eyebrows a little. “Well, that was the plan, wasn’t it?” She shook her head, leaning in closer and bopping her nose against his as she did so. “I thought you were tired,” she teased, a sly smile on her lips.

Hans spoke to the guy over the phone as he watched Scarlett pull up the pizza parlor’s information. It didn’t take long - especially since they had ordered from this place many times since getting back together - and by the time Scarlett was ready to order the pizza, he was done. “Yeah, pepperoni is great.” He smiled at her, leaning in to press a kiss to her lips,mainly because he couldn’t resist himself. Or her. He couldn’t resist Scarlett at all.

Scarlett smiled as she dialed the number, accepting his kiss until someone picked up on the other end. Then, she put her index finger between their mouths and pushed him away, but not too far. She placed their order and thanked the guy before hanging up. “Alright, so everything’s settled food-wise.” She let her hand travel across his face and stopped to play with a curl on his temple. “What movie should we watch?”

Taking it slow was harder for Hans, if he were being honest. He wasn’t that type of guy, but for Scarlett, he was certainly trying. As she leaned into him, he smiled and wrapped an arm around her waist so that she wouldn’t be able to move away like she had before. He liked having her near, and that was how he was going to keep her. “Mmm. Okay.” He said, smiling down at her as she pressed her lips against the skin of his jaw. He pulled up their usual Chinese place’s phone number on his phone. “The usual, right?” He asked, pressing the call button and placing the device to his ear.

Scarlett nodded as she got the pizza place’s number on her own phone. Was this what a real relationship was like? The only thing she had to compare it to was Philip, and that had never really been a real relationship, since they weren’t really in love with each other, despite loving each other nonetheless. But this was entirely different. She wasn’t sure that she loved Hans, not yet, but she sure as hell was deeply in love with him. That hadn’t taken her too long, and the road since had been a troubled one. But they were here now, and Scarlett was happy with where they were at. She hoped he was happy, too. “Pepperoni sound alright? I’m not really feeling fancy today.”

Hans nodded as he greeted the woman on the phone, telling her that he wanted to place an order, and then what that order was. He paused in his conversation to pull the phone away from his mouth. “Pad See-ew noodles for me.” He said, winking and putting the phone back to his ear to finish his order.

Scarlett nodded as she listened to the dial tone on the other end of the line. At last, someone picked up and she greeted them politely, recited their order and thanked them. She looked over at Hans and smiled widely. Despite it being hard to look at him and not do the stuff she’d told herself to wait for, she was struck by how lovely this was: the two of them, preparing their night in, ordering each other’s food and sitting comfortably together in the backseat of his car. It looked like a real relationship. The though filled Scarlett with an unbelievable feeling of joy. She let herself lean against his chest, folding her body to fit against his completely. “Okay, now you can dial for Chinese and I’ll get the pizza, yeah?” she suggested, placing a soft kiss on his jaw.

He smirked at her, holding himself back from chasing her for another kiss. Instead, he nodded and started pulling up the information Indian restaurant she had been raving about for the past few days. “What do you want?” He asked, raising an eyebrow in anticipation as he dialed the number and pressed the phone to his ear.

Scarlett almost replied that what she really wanted wasn’t on any menu, but refrained herself. This whole slow thing was harder than she’d thought. “I’ll have some curry chicken,” she said instead, and pulled out her own phone to call one of the other restaurants. “I’m having shrimp noodles for the Thai portion of our multicultural dinner. What do you want?”

“Well that makes more sense – god damn it,” he grumbled, wiping his mouth on his sleeve. “Do you have any clean water here?”

Scarlett tried her hardest to keep her laughter inside, but failed miserably. “The kitchen would be the place for that.”
