what bugs me about people’s negative reactions to this is that if 5SOS was an unknown band, but still made the same style music they do now, people would be all for this. If 5SOS had toured with FOB or P!ATD or any of our dorky emo bands instead of touring with One Direction, we’d be excited for this. Everyone always gets so preachy about how “5SOS and other bands will never be true punk music”and “They’re punk wannabes”. Take a moment and think about what you’re saying. Patrick Stump said there’s nothing less punk than putting limits on what punk should be or sound like, so why is everyone targeting 5SOS? I’m not trying to defend 5SOS on their own. I’m trying to defend punk music and all of its sub-genres. Punk Rock, Pop Punk, Techno Punk- It’s all punk.  Another thing people say is that they won’t stop loving a band if they become mainstream. However, if 5 Seconds of Summer was still basically unknown, I would bet all I have that most of you would reblog stuff about them and try and get Pete Wentz or someone notice them. It’s fine if you don’t like them or their music. But please- don’t turn the Punk Music community into a hostile environment for newer bands/artists. Thank you.

The main reason everyone is targeting them is because they’ve said homophobic, sexist, racist, and fatphobic things; and I don’t think the fact that they’re ‘mainstream’ is that influential as to why they’re being targeted.
