Weiss exhaled and pinched the bridge of her nose to fight off a forming headache, her ears flicking back as she thought. Neptune absolutely meant well, in his own way; despite popular opinion, he didn’t hate her and she didn’t hate him.
By the same token, though, they would never really be friends.
As it was, though, this whole thing had been unexpected and it made things… complicated. Even after marriage, even after moving to her husband’s kingdom, her father expected an update on all things to ensure nothing happened to destabilize Weiss’s new claim in this land.
She would need to tell him about her new bodyguard. Her new faunus bodyguard.
Kalt had never liked Sun, either. But that was an issue for another time, best handled when she had to write to her father to let him know she had arrived safely. For now, the mention of food had her stomach rumbling.
“I could eat,” she said at last. “Is there any meat in this kingdom? I haven’t had any food since breakfast.”
“Breakfast?” Sun said. His eyes swept up her body, along her slender thighs, small waist, and if he really looked he could probably see the gentle slopes of her ribs against her chest. He frowned. Weiss needed to eat more. “I know a gal. C’mon.”
The palace was an expanse of granite floors and marble walls, each littered with giant arched windows that overlooked the sea and the rocky waters below. But it was the docks he was after. “You’re not busy right? Great.”
Sun led her along for a few minutes then paused along a wall and gave Weiss a grin. “Watch this, Weiss. You’re gonna love it.” He ran a calloused hand along the wall, searching until he found the smallest of imperfections along the surface. With a triumphant hum, he pressed down into it.
Slowly, silently, a piece of marble as tall as him slid to the side. A secret passage.
“The palace of full of em. It’s how the servants get around.” He motioned inside. Every surface was polished to a shine, enhancing the ambient light that trickled in through a few, small cracks. “But I know some that haven’t been used for centuries. We can go exploring sometime.” This one led outside, below the cliffs and straight to large wood docks that housed canoes and ships alike.
And as they walked, Sun explained. “The palace doesn’t really have much meat- besides fish, I mean. The monarchs don’t like the bloody taste. Lucky for you, I,” he slapped his chest. “Have friends in high places.”
Blake was probably the exact opposite of Weiss Schnee. Black, glossy hair, sharp gold eyes and sunkissed brown skin that was flecked with scars. She wore black too, unbothered by the warm temperature or the harsh light as she sat on the mast of a canoe big enough to rival some of the ships at port.
Sun cupped his mouth with both hands, holding his bo in his tail.
“Blake! Get down here!”
