ONE LAST TIME!
Monday (12/5/14)
So today we got the opportunity to show our devised piece one more time, I personally think that this performance was stronger than our first performance. I think that for me personally I connected a lot more and it didn’t feel as long, I think we managed to smash our transitions which was one of our main worries. I’m glad we got the chance to do this again as we have shown our work off to even more people and hopefully educated some more faces on how life might have been like for nurses on the front line. I AM VERY PROUD OF WHAT WE DONE TODAY AND I AND GLAD I GOT THE CHANCE TO WORK WITH YOU ALL!
How did you guys find today's performance in comparison to our first one?

De brief notes
PROCESS Yasmin The process was a roller coaster ride for me, at the start I was really excited to try something new and take on a more leading role within a company which I have found a challenge over the time I have been at Miskin, I felt the process itself was fine until casting came around as people In our group became very negative towards the casting and the piece itself, we have had many re castings in our group due to people being ill and other reasons but this didn't stop out group from progressing, there were many times when working with the small company that I felt disrespected and that people wouldn't listen to me which if it was an actual director wouldn't happen, however from my professional training this has helped me to become stronger in taking control which has helped me turn all the negatives of the process into a positive, I feel the biggest weakness for our company would be lack of communication which was the cause of many arguments however I feel all the arguments put aside I feel the piece was a success and the process everyone achieved a lot from. Sarah I thought the process started well and I was really excited, it got difficult once we had the script and had cast the piece because of commitment to the piece, I think that after Easter the piece really moved on and I'm quite happy with the outcome of the piece and how we all worked together as a smaller company. I also found that there was a lot of conflict a lot of the time throughout the process. From this process I think that we have been able to work out the flaws and strengths of our smaller company which we will hopefully be able to use in the next process. Amy This process for me has been very up and down; at times I've really enjoyed this process especially at the beginning when Tierney and I were writing the piece, the casting and starting rehearsals I really enjoyed. For me it became harder later on in the process as we had quite a a large group and communication was very lacking and there were a lot of silly arguments and bickering over nothing really, everyone speaking over each other really got in the way and by the end we kind of lost the story and had to lose some scenes due to attendance and time but then we created something brilliant when we grasped the story again. I wish I had more of a say in the writing though, it was Tierney's idea but a lot of what I wanted wasn't put in. Tierney This process for me has had it's ups and downs. For me as the assistant director I felt that I wasn't acknowledged and that really annoyed me for this process. When I did get my chance to take charged I was given the cold shoulder, I felt really uncomfortable when I came into the space and felt that I wasn't wanted. When my ideas were put in I felt really happy, but that feeling wasn't kept when disagreement came into the space. I was disappointed with the lack of attendance, and he arguing inside our group. I felt that we came out with a good piece at the end, but the communication could have been a lot better and the arguing. The arguing led to some of the script being cut which annoyed me, I really wanted those monologues put in but unfortunately with stress and lack of communication that didn't happen. Overall we had a good piece but at the same time it could have been improved and the process could have been a lot better. Emma R I personally think that this process was a great way for us to explore on our own and make our own choices on the piece we created. It was nice to have the freedom and I think it brought different sides out of each other which that I'd never seen before which I found interesting. We had a good script and I think even though we had our differences we pulled it together and made it work. It was hard some days to rehearsal and get things done when there has been a bad atmosphere within the group. I had fun but at times I just wanted it to be over, I think if we got the chance to do this again we would all have much more respect for one another and we would have made a stronger piece and had an overall more enjoyable process. Tommy At the start of this process I was glad to be part of my company again since I was in a position that could jeopardise my future at the Miskin, it was a fresh start for me since the Christmas show process and I was truly grateful for this. It was fluent from the start for my original group (Sam, Joe, Alex, Lilly and Jordan K) casting the piece and organising auditions, however it became more complicated since some actors were taken into the first years TIE, and most of the time I was with this group to rehearse for my character with Blake and Chris. But throughout the weeks of the process it was becoming more and more stressful for me to comprehend how we couldn't take direction, also how sometimes stress would acer in the room with no reason why! The respect level wasn't as high as we all expected it to be just like how we usually are with Robbie and Gavin, there's a difference between giving a note critically and being rude. But the piece could have been better, the last time was at a standard we would do on an opening night, if we were given the chance we would go forward with it a drive the piece and make it amazing.
Hairstyles for the girls
These are the hairstyles that I have found which I think would work best for our characters as they are popular hairstyles that women wore during the Edwardian times. It would be greatly appreciated if you could all have a look at these videos and comment which ones you like the best for your character, I hope this was helpful! Finger waves were also very popular but they are quite difficult and take a long time so I don't think we would have the time. Also if you find these too difficult I could do your hair for you but I did choose these ones specifically as I think they are quite easy and not too complicated.

Directors Notes: Run To Lucy
Beginning Moving, really nice writing, it moved me. I think you can stylise the opening by not speaking, it might be more effective if you can synchronised it. This is the start of the end. I think you can use the Matt more effectively, you don’t have to keep bringing it back and forward. The Matt can make it a more vocal piece. The Job Blake you would either wait for her to lead you off, or go off the same side. Minor thing Instead of the smoking you can be rolling one and change the subject. Don’t mine your writing Maybe taking something off to show an ending The transitions need to be smoother I felt moved at your physical presents, but you started to speak and you put emotions into it. Take out the emotion, it will be more moving for the audience. It may be nicer if you cam on with the red cloth, as if it’s a baby. It will look better, it will look less mechanical The ending needs to be a moment for everyone. You can end it in a way where your walking off. You were commitment, well structured. There wasn’t many dynamics

Crimson Field
I had the chance to watch the first episode of Crimson Field. I loved the first episode as there was so much historical context inside of it. I also felt that it contained so much emotion and mystery. The acting was simply brilliant, all the characters had individual personalities and felt that you wanted to find out more about each character. What had happened to them up to this point, and what made them the person they are. The character that stood out to me was Prentice, he hardly talked throughout the whole episode but the actor who played him represented him beautifully. He made me feel so sorry for the character and plead for his return home. I don't want to give too much away because I feel that is something that every one should watch, it's something that the women can gain information from and also the men. If you get a chance to watch it tell me what you think Notes I Took Burning limbs A rubber sheet would go on a bed so the mattress could be used again and again, it would stop any bodily fluids going on the mattress Reuse of bandages Sisters where given their own quarters whereas volunteers were made to share The cries of pain sounded so real How desperate these men were, how they needed closure in some way In some way all the nurses cared, some more than others, but they weren't allowed to show it. The soldier who had shell shock stood out for me - Prentice - are you a coward? - are you a homosexual? - you must be a solider then Quotes "Do you think the enemy are sending men home because they are tired? We must have men at the front or we will lose" "You always tell the families that the died peacefully and without pain no matter what", "You never speak of a dying mans last word no matter what they confess to you" Amy look at the character Catherine Chris look at the character Prentice BBC Website for Crimson Field http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p01tlxzb Creating the set http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p01wtp9k

World War 1 Declaration speech
Great Britain declared war on Germany at 11 o'clock last night. The Cabinet yesterday delivered an ultimatum to Germany. Announcing the fact to the House of Commons, the Prime Minister said: "We have repeated the request made last week to the German Government that they should give us the same assurance in regard to Belgian neutrality that was given to us and Belgium by France last week. We have asked that it should be given before midnight." Last evening a reply was received from Germany. This being unsatisfactory the King held at once a Council which had been called for midnight. The declaration of war was then signed. The Foreign Office issued the following official statement:- Owing to the summary rejection by the German Government of the request made by his Majesty's Government for assurances that the neutrality of Belgium will be respected, his Majesty's Ambassador to Berlin has received his passports, and his Majesty's Government declared to the German Government that a state of war exists between Great Britain and Germany as from 11 p.m. on August 4, 1914. A statement made in London last night said the British Note to Germany was sent direct to Sir E. Goschen, the Ambassador in Berlin. German troops have invaded Belgium. The Premier informed the Brussels Chamber yesterday, after King Albert had addressed the Deputies in a speech calling on the nation to defend its integrity. Mr. Asquith knew of the invasion when he made his statement in the Commons.
What is the right target audience?
As part of my research I was looking at different target audiences for certain types of show in theatre. I thought about our piece and realised our piece is a great piece to show to a girls school because it's about nurses in the front line. But in relation to this I thought it would be extremely beneficial to show it to a sixth form as that would be a perfect target audience. The reason being a sixth form is of the ages around 16-18. There is some swearing and explicit language in our pieces, and we are not only showing what women had to go through but the men too and how life changes considerably from the impact of this war?
Are we in agreement our target audience is sixth form?
