comics as an art form make me insane. they’re so difficult to do well. there’s so many different ways to make sequential art work and most of them are deeply unintuitive. onomatopoeia that feels completely ridiculous to put down often reads seamlessly. panels on a page become a fractally nested image composition challenge that’s only possible to lose because if you do a good job no one will notice. you have to direct the readers’ eyes on a specific path across the page but also account for the fact that they won’t follow it. comic time isn’t linear. if the order of events isn’t crystal clear the story becomes incomprehensible. sometimes you need to do this on purpose. all this for a medium almost universally considered less effective than animation and less respectable than plain text. even its own name doesn’t take it seriously
this is our science // ring a ding ding!
sorry its so blurry :\

imagining a world where askjeeves won out as the most popular search engine so people having arguments online end up saying stuff like "literally just ask jeeves about this, it's not hard"
proclaiming we're in a lesbian music renaissance NOW thanks to artists like Billie Eilish, Chapell Roan, Fletcher, Phoebe Bridgers, Dove Cameron and Renee Rapp is qWHITE interesting to me (dgmw I like those artists but)........... people are acting like Janelle Monae, Victoria Monet, Hayley Kiyoko, Arlo Parks, Halsey, Kehlani, Syd, Dua Saleh, Raveena, Kelela, and even Megan Thee Stallion haven't been CONSISTENTLY making music about loving women and eating pussy for well over a decade. is it only a "sapphic music renaissance" when white lesbians and queer women do it?
the need to talk about the characters vs the fear that all of my analysis is just empty prose and surface level understanding
Me 20 seconds after saying anything about my favorite characters:
This was a whole thread, here are some of my favourites:
STRAP CAN GET YOU PREGNANT
TIL that there's an '80s movie where they portrayed Smilodon by sticking actual fake teeth onto actual live lions.
So I learnt about this as part of a paleontology lecture talking about how it became accepted that saber teeth don't hinder the animals ability to eat
Citation - those people who stuck some on real lions which were able to eat without problems once they got used to them
This reminds me of the PLoS ONE study that placed artificial tails (long stiff rods fitted with a cone, superficially resembling small toilet plungers) over the natural short tails of young chickens, which affected the chickens’ gaits, theoretically recreating the stride and center of mass positioning of similarly shaped dinosaurs.
Whether or not this has much scientific merit is mildly debatable but that’s sort of the point of PLoS One anyway.

I can't get over the Star Wars Hotel making you log in to Disney+ to watch anything. $6000 experience that can't give you free Disney+ for two days. Back in the day a lot of people decided to get cable off experiencing it for free in hotel rooms and now you're expected to bring your cable with you lest they give you anything for free for two days
every “little trip” to the store is like $30. At the very least.
i don’t know how many more “little trips” i’ve got left in me boss
