"Hhhhsss...H-holdin' up there, bestie?" That familiar voice questioned. "...Th-then again...Maybe "Bestie" isn't the right word...Guess it's up to you then! Eheheeh~!" That familiar flayed corpse sat sprawled over the kitchen counter. Skinless visage held in their claws idly. "Sss...Sstill! We haven't talked in a loooong while! I was worried you'd up N'croaked on me! Or that...Hsss...Thing got you..."
Spine looked over at the sound of a familiar voice, eye lolling slightly as her claws dug into the floor. She'd been laying down for a while, just staring up at the ceiling, seemingly lost in thought. Ribs, however, seemed to snap her out of her dazed transe.
She shifted slightly, arms and fingers twitching as she stretched, letting out a groan from sitting still for so long. "I'm doin... nghh... alright."
Spine sat in a more comfortable position, looking at Ribs for the first time in a while, which guilt bubbled in her mind for. It felt like she ignored them for a while, which wasn't very nice of her, considering how Ribs sees her. Going far enough to call her "Bestie".
"I'm sorry for worrying you, I've just been... tired." Tired. That was probably a half life, but tired was really the only word she could think of.
"Hsss...You always seem tired.." That skinned carcass hissed. Pulling themselves off the countertop and onto the floor with a meaty thud. They did seem a little...Larger than usual, but the same in essence. "I worry about you, Spine." Their words cut forth with an uncharacteristic concern. The typical lackadaisical tone of theirs replaced with something uncomfortably genuine. "...You're always tired....Hsss...You're always...Jusssst..." They paused. Lidless eyes shamefully glancing to the side in thought. "...I jussst...Worry that you're getting...Worse." "I know, I know. We're both like this...But still." "...Are you sick? Or is thiss jusst...Part of you?" They grew a little closer. Skeletal head cocking to the side. "Shhhould I ask Sssam for some...Medicine? Maybe you've got a fever...O-or a Cold!"
"I've always been.. tired. It's easier for me to get exhausted with how I am. With this body. That, or my wound got infected, and I'm paying for it."
Spine shifted uncomfortably, scratching at her skull for a second, before relaxing. She was always tired, yes, but it has been getting worse.
"I think I'll be fine, don't worry that much, okay?" Maybe she's just not moving enough, or she's still aging somehow. But, even then, she hated to worry Ribs. Or anyone, really.
They wracked their skull for answers, solutions, results...But ultimately found an agonizingly pile of Nothing for all their efforts. They knew about as much about their "state" as she did. And so the unraveled found themselves frustratingly stumped. "...Fff...Fffine." They retorted. Pale skull bobbing along that serpentine neck. "But! I'm gonna be...Hsss...Keeping a closer eye on you..." "I don't want you getting hurt. Or...Worsseee...Losing it like the others." It brought back...Memories. Unpleasant ones. Those that had been suppressed by the unraveling. The sickly smell of disinfectant, the beeping of machinery, the thought of disease.. The Creature let out an uncharacteristic chuff as they snapped themselves out of this involuntary remembrance. "...Sssorry." "I'll just be...Keepin' an eye on you. That's all.."
Spine let out a small sigh, climbing onto the couch, resting her head on the armrest and leaving space beside her. Her eyes drooped with exhaustion, and she was already starting to doze off.
"Alright. Just don't waste your time."
And before she could really say anything else, Spine had fallen asleep. Deep into a dreamless sleep, her mind pondered why Ribs worried so much, and clawed deeper to try and uncover old memories.
She groaned in her sleep, going still on the couch.

Sam calls out randomly, whilst cuting onions.
"I know you're there, Spine! You'll get some, don't worry."
She skitters and brushes against your legs like a cat. A very fleshy, boney cat.
"Thanks, Sam..." Spine purrs delicately, before heading back to the couch.
"Sam, what is this thing-"

What was Spine even talking about?
"Lemmie get the lights."
"Sam, the THING."
She points at Riza, who busy sitting in a corner, playing with one of Sam's dress shirt buttons.. Where did he get that-
"What is that thing. It tried to pet me earlier."
"Oh..."
Sam seethes. Yeah. He didn't think about this. He didn't think about much at all.
"That's Riza."
Sam walks to Riza, speaking softly.
"Riza.. what did I say about personal-"
His dress shirt? Aw, fuck no! That was one of his favourite purple dress shirts.
"Hey, why do have my shirt?"
Riza held the shirt gently, just spinning the button on the shirt. He didn't take it apart, and was gentle with it.
He looked up at Sam, blinking before hugging the shirt close to his chest. It's eyes upturned, like he was smiling. Was he teasing, or just stupidly and adorably innocent?
"..!!"
Spine watched from behind Sam, staring at Riza, who gave her a small wave. "I don't like it. It's too.. weird. It's like a child..."
"It's not..."
Sam sighs. Riza can have that shirt. Whatever.
"Riza, you have to remember personal space. You have to get permission before you can touch someone."
He raises his hand slightly.
"May I touch you? To give you a pat?"
Hopefully that serves as a lesson. She was so good with personal space with him. Why not with Spine?
He nodded, understanding. It didn't respect Spine. He will apologize later. He's happy, he can have the nice shirt!
"...!!!!"
Riza flinched when Sam raised his hand, relaxing when he registered the question. He nodded. Pets.. Nice. He was asking permission..
Spine watched quietly. What a strange creature.. It seems to understand what Sam said, so maybe that thing will respect her personal space from now on.
"Thank you."
Sam sighs lightly and turns to Spine.
"See? It's okay. And His name is Riza."
He emphasized the words, trying to get Spine to show personhood to Riza.
"...Riza.."
She looked behind Sam, staring at Riza, who stared back with that blank expression. If he respects her personal space, it might not be that hard to live with.
"....Alright."
Riza watched Spine slink over to the couch, climbing on the cushions and curling up. Spine watched Riza approach, who tilted his head. She gave a small nod, and Riza got onto the couch as well, curling up with Spine.
They're bonding already!
"Sam, what is this thing-"

Does anyone’s spine ever just hurt for no reason sometimes? Or just their general back area?

Sam shakes you, almost violently, but there's no malice.
"I FOUND CHOCOROCKS!"
It's not much, but it's what she wanted, right?

She jolts awake, startled and disoriented from the sudden shaking.
"Ghhh- Whuh? Chhhocorocks? The cereal- OH the cereal."
Spine perks up once the fog of sleep has faded from her mind, grasping at Sam's arm with some of hers, eyes sparkling in excitement.
"You found chocorocks?! Seriously?"
"Yeah!" Sam opens his backpack nonchalantly, though his sweater has fresh blood on it.
"I found an unopened box in some guy's pantry— well, two. I remembered you like them."
Sam pulls out a chocorocks box with a dent in the side.
Spine stares at the box like it isn't even real, before looking up at Sam with genuine joy.
"I can't believe it. We should eat them. Right now. You have any milk?"
She takes the box from his hand, holding it in her claws and looking it over.
"You can't eat chocorocks without milk, after all."
"Of course I have milk!"
Sam walks to his fridge and grabs two bowls, spoons, and a bag of milk. He twists off the lid and brings the supplies to the couch for them.
Spine follows behind him like a puppy, holding the box of chocorocks excitedly. She missed the taste of chocorcocks, and she wasn't even sure Sam remembered that she mentioned them.
Sam politely takes the box from her, opens it and pours a good helping into each bowl. He site the box back on the table after he's done.
He pours the milk and twists the cap back on, leaving it to the side.
He'll try some if Spine insists, but with how sparse they are, even if he likes them, he'd leave them just for her to eat. He'd even keep them away from Sophie.
Her claws shakily hold the bowl, grabbing the spoon and getting a spoonful of cereal. Spine slowly and shakily brings it up to her mouth, eating, or well trying to with how her body works..
She lets out a low gurgle of what seems to be happiness, before eating the rest of the cereal like a woman starved. Seems she really missed it.
Sam would've offered to help, but...
She has this. He smiles instead and scoops it into his own mouth.
It's really good! He's not going to have another bote of Chocorocks again, though, because of how much Spine loves them.
And he's just fine with that.
After finishing her bowl of chocorocks, she set it in the sink delicately, before skittering back to the couch.
Spine watches Sam closely, moving his bowl somewhere it won't fall once noticing he doesn't eat anymore of it.
After, Spine lets out a low growl, climbing into Sam's lap and nuzzling his chin happily.
"You're the best, Sam." She purrs, nuzzling her cheek against his, wrapping her arms around him and clinging to him in a many-armed hug.
This clearly meant a lot to her.
"SPINE WAKE UP!"

"Sssomething seems...Different about you." That familiar form of Ribs slowly drags itself around the Kitchen-counter. Trundling along as that long neck stretches itself towards the other unraveled. Lidless eyes peering her up and down. "...Ssnff...Hsss....You ssssmell different. Not like usual." It added. "Sssomething on your miiind..?" It probed.
She looked at Ribs, her eyes tired, claws fidgeting with the bandage on her arm from Sam. Spine looked pretty tired, even without eyelids and skin for eyebags.
"Smell different? Hmmh.. I'm okay, Ribs."
She felt guilty for lying, but there was a lot on her mind. A lot she didn't understand herself, and she wasn't sure Ribs would understand. Going to Sam didn't feel like an option, so she tried to understand it herself.
"What seems 'different' about me?"
"...Hm." Was all they responded with. Expression unreadable from how much it had been pared down. Those ever-leering eyes observing Spine until.. Ahah! "What...Hsss...Is that?" They probed. Neck elongating to peer at the other's bandages. Bandages? It felt odd to Ribs. They were both skinless lumps of gore, The idea of bandaging one specific part of her body seemed unusual to them. "Sssomebody...Nick you? Was it...Hsss..That Thing?" Its tone shifted. Slick with vitriol and contempt as those syllables drifted from their chest-cavity.
She looked down at her arm, the bandages slightly stained with blood.
"I got hurt a bit ago. Sam helped me."
Spine looked back at Ribs, her eyes droopy and her body not as nimble as before.
"I can't remember how I got hurt, but I know Sam patched me up."
"...Ah, Alright." Ribs seemed to buy Spine's answer for now. Turning away for a moment...Before quickly remembering something. "R-Right! Hsss..." Their middle-set of arms reached within their torso. Idly fishing around before pulling something out. What looked like a simple strip of fabric tied into a loop. "Ssssam was...Kind enough to let us Borrow a few...Eye-coveringsss..." "I know it might be..." They paused. Trying to figure out the right terminology to use. "...Difficult to sssleep in our current...Ssstate. So I asked if we could borrow some blindfolds!" "You can keep one if you'd like. It might...Hsssk...Help."
She looks.. surprised. Spine had always thought she was supposed to deal with sleeping without darkness. She gently took one from Ribs, her claws shaking with exhaustion.
"....Thank you."
Spine holds it, looking down to fidget with it. She's clearly hiding something else, but doesn't speak up. She really hopes Ribs doesn't notice how thoughtful she looks.
It always upsets them just how...Worn she always looks. They always seem to catch her in a state of comparative exhaustion or lethargy. Perhaps they're just on different schedules? Or perhaps it's something else. "No...Hsssk...Problem." Ribs promptly responded. Twisting to slowly pad away from Spine. "...I'm thinking of maybe...Asking Sssam for a book. Or maybe some...Cardsss? I bet that'd liven the place up..." They mused over their shoulder towards Spine. Spending eternity in a cramped flesh-room is bad enough...Just maybe they could try to bring some Respite to the agonizing boredom.
"That sounds.. nice. I could use something else to do here..."
She fidgeted with the sleepmask some more, putting it on a nearby shelf before turning back to Ribs.

"I got hurt a bit ago. Sam helped me."
Spine looked back at Ribs, her eyes droopy and her body not as nimble as before.
"I can't remember how I got hurt, but I know Sam patched me up."
"Sssomething seems...Different about you." That familiar form of Ribs slowly drags itself around the Kitchen-counter. Trundling along as that long neck stretches itself towards the other unraveled. Lidless eyes peering her up and down. "...Ssnff...Hsss....You ssssmell different. Not like usual." It added. "Sssomething on your miiind..?" It probed.
She looked at Ribs, her eyes tired, claws fidgeting with the bandage on her arm from Sam. Spine looked pretty tired, even without eyelids and skin for eyebags.
"Smell different? Hmmh.. I'm okay, Ribs."
She felt guilty for lying, but there was a lot on her mind. A lot she didn't understand herself, and she wasn't sure Ribs would understand. Going to Sam didn't feel like an option, so she tried to understand it herself.
"What seems 'different' about me?"
