“Well, you got my attention, all right,” Clara remarked with a genuine smile, her hand closing around her wallet after the other woman handed it to her.
“Really, thank you so much. Can I, I dunno, buy you a drink or somethin’? You know, as a thank you.”
“It’s just. . .” Jennifer began, gesturing to the wallet, “I’ve lost mine before and it wound up stolen. Someone racked up 10,000 dollars in my name and I just about died.”
She tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and laughed, dismissing the other woman’s gratitude with a small wave of her freckled hand, too modest to accept.
“Really?” Jennifer answered, taken aback by the offer. “You’d do that?”
“What’s on the menu? Me-n-u.”

“better get ready for it because she will play it again. and again. it’s a never ending nightmare. i even started to think that’s on nasa, like, they should be testing our limits, y’know??”
“I can’t survive six months of this, even if she -- by the grace of fucking God -- decided to play nothing but Hot Stuff and exclude everything else. It’s killing me.”
“you do realize that i’ve been eating nothing but potatoes for almost SEVEN months, right? ugh – i’ll have the milkshake.”
“I’m aware. Is there anything else you wanted?”

❛ You would? Because I don’t know the first thing about taking care of a puppy, ❜ he answered, stepping closer.
“Ah. Sorry.” Shelby said pursing her lips together for a moment but then relaxed when he mentioned breakfast. “Sure, what do you have?”
“I got some eggs and cheese. There’s pancake batter. I have Cinnamon Toast Crunch. There’s a few bagels and some cream cheese left, too. Anything you want?”
“No thanks, I’d rather be alone than surrounded by a bunch of people that I don’t know, celebrating a holiday that I haven’t celebrated in years.”
“You sure? There’s gonna be turkey, ham, cheesecake, and Christmas cookies! There’ll be plenty to go around.” She paused. “How come you haven’t celebrated for so long?”

Wanda’s eyes narrowed at Warren, lips in a light pout as she teasingly attempted to deduct just what exactly was so different about Warren, that she couldn’t quite seem to place.
“Red nose, sneezing, coughing, all around aura of misery… I do believe Mr. Tough Stuff has come down with a cold.”
Warren sat hunched over, arms crossed, shivering slightly. “It’s not a cold,” he answered stubbornly. As if on cue, he felt an unmistakable tickle in his throat and turned away to cough. His sinuses were congested, resulting in a pounding headache that made him wince from the pressure.
“And I love being able to sleep in.”
“Get over here and have a cup of coffee already, ya grouch.”
“What exactly is a Prancer?”
“It’s a movie! Well, technically, it’s the name of a reindeer -- one of Santa’s reindeer. But the movie’s based off a little girl who finds him and nurses him back to health!”

The air was too cold, as always. He looked over at the other man, resisting the urge to wrinkle his nose at the smell of the cigarettes. He hated the smell but he was almost envious. That would probably make him warm. Bucky settled for pulling the jacket closer to him, frowning at the other.
“What?” he questioned, expression indifferent. He’d noticed Bucky’s frown. The air outside was crisp, freezing the inside of his nose, nipping at his ears, flushing his cheeks. Despite this, he was warm. He was practically a furnace, always radiating heat.

❛ My cinematic experience is practically nonexistent, so I’ll take whatever you got. Also, if you don’t tell me what toppings you want before I walk out this door, I’mma ask ‘em to put those creepy little anchovies on your pizza. ❜ He opened the door, placing one foot outside, and raised an eyebrow at her.

❝ What’s wrong with tequila? ❞ Jennifer asked, glancing down at her drink. Her eyes were blown, pupils dilated from an earlier encounter with a certain white substance.
“It’s been…” James covered his face, embarrassed. “I had a bad day in the mall because my arm set off the metal detector. Someone tried to pat me down, as a result, and I flipped them over my shoulder and sprained their elbow.”
He hadn’t meant to. Not really. Just.
“I was scared, okay?”
Alan nodded, glancing down at his pen, slowly turning it over. “What inspired you to go to the mall? A friend?” he questioned, voice soft. It was important that he appear non-threatening; that he resemble a confidant in every facet of his response. Otherwise, James might withdraw into himself and become less responsive.
