Love is a burning thing and it makes a fiery ring. Bound by wild desire, I fell into a ring of fire. I fell into a burning ring of fire. I went down, down, down and the flames went hire. And it burns, burns, burns, the ring of fire.

Wyatt came into the world like a whirlwind. He had been his mother, Anita’s entire world and a miracle, and his father’s worst nightmare. Damian Tucker didn’t like competition; especially not when it came to his wife. The two never saw eye to eye but Wyatt would never turn his back on his father. Even when his father deserved it. 

When he was four years old, his mother Anita died suddenly, it was in that moment that his whole life changed. The two Tucker men were on their own and things got real heavy, real fast. His father didn’t have a good handle on his drinking and spent more time staring at the end of a bottle than looking after his son. Wyatt needed to learn how to fend for himself and he did. Wyatt learned how to cook and clean up after the man and has done so most of his life. 

Beneath it all, Wyatt is a huge family guy. His half-sister Mavrick , had been one wonderful support in his life. Despite the genetic link, Damian, the two had vastly different lives but he wouldn’t have it any other way. She had gotten the start he didn’t think he deserved but that didn’t mean he loved her any less. The two are thicker than thieves and he would kill for her. 

Due to his poor economic status and the ratty appearance of his trailer, it was clear that he had become the whippin’ post for the snobby boys. Little did they know, they were not match for the quick witted and heavy handed young man. He sported many a black eyes and gave quite a few. 

Wyatt fell madly in love with Shiloh Dobbs, @shilohdobbs, and vowed that he’d married that girl. It wasn’t soon after her 18th birthday that he proposed to her. Things were going good until they weren’t. She left him. Wyatt used to this routine by now had receded into himself and began to new town drunk who didn’t care about who he offended. There was no chance for a Tucker Man.

Bang. Bang. Bang.  

Somehow, even combating against the soulful tune she was blasting at near full volume, the sound of rapid knocking on the other side of Maverick’s door still penetrated the melody. Maverick couldn’t see the entrance to the master suite from her current position but she didn’t have the motivation to adjust her vantage point, instead glaring at the ceiling as if the heat of her gaze would somehow shift directions towards its intended target. “Go Away!”. Commonly Maverick wouldn’t dare let such ill-mannered expressions dispel but she was confident she knew who was demanding, quite loudly, for an invitation to enter. Her brother should have been well aware when he pulled up to the house the sound of Taylor Swift blaring through her open window was not a good sign and was a blatant request to kindly stay away. Even Skelly knew to give Maverick the space needed to bask in her self deprecation, conveniently finding plans in town. But not Wyatt and damn him for being so perceptive. She’d purposely cancelled their plans today through text so he wouldn’t be able to hear the lie in her voice. She never could keep anything from him. Being half siblings never meant anything other than a title, they had all the innate intuition of any full blooded family. But Maverick didn’t want to burden her brother with her mess today, not when he was dealing with his own drama. 

Maverick ignored the next round of knocks, reaching for her phone to increase the volume to express her aversion to having company presently. But she was rattled from her passive aggressive response when the door suddenly cracked open, all six foot five of her brother filling the doorway. “Are ya outta your damn mind?” scrambling off the bed, she padded barefoot across the wood floors and frowned at the splinters of chipped paint. “Can’t I wallow in peace you big oaf!” she whined, on the verge of stamping her feet much like she did when they were children and a tantrum was brewing. “You’re fixin’ that door. Right now” 

There’s never a dull moment in this fucking stupid ass town.

Wyatt grumbled silently. His fingers drummed along the scuffed paint of his beat up pick up. His lips tingled from the quick swig of jack he took before piling into his truck to rescue his sister from her ivory tower. Aside from her bullshit cancellation, he had began to hear all of the naughty secrets from the Halloween Bash were trickling through the grape vine. It wasn’t long before Noah and Maverick’s name popped up. He gritted his teeth at the townspeople assumptions on the interactions. There was nothing he hated more than listening to the quixotic tales being spun from the lips of every fake baptist in this fucking town. His jaw clenched at his own curiosity. Would he have to show up at Noah’s door to remind him of which Tucker spawn was the crazier kind? 

His eyes rolled at the wafting sound of Taylor Swift’s melancholy ballads saturating the stale air around her estate. Jesus Christ, she brought out the big guns. Shaking off the dirt from his jeans, Wyatt marched in through her front door. The thundering sound of Taylor’s iconic strumming, signaled such hollowing distress in Wyatt’s posture. Whatever plagued his sister had to be serious and he wasn’t gonna stop until he knew how to fix it. His knuckles rapped on the fragile wooden panel of her bedroom door. Go away! The abrupt dismissal would have made his proud in any other instance. Maverick’s tight adherence to southern niceties exhausted him. There was no need to be polite all the time; or any of the time. 

“I’m not leave until you open the door.” Wyatt waited for a beat waiting for the light shadow of her footsteps to slip beneath the crack of the door. Instead, he was met with spike in volume. You did this to yourself, Mav. Wyatt leaned back on his supporting foot before forcing his shoulder into the jam of the door. The wood splintered helplessly as the door swung open. 

“I asked you to open the door--you did this to yourself.” Wyatt swept her up into a hug, cradling her to his chest. “Count to three, you midget. Once you cooled your goddamn jets, we’re gonna talk like adults. You were the one who made Sunday meals a staple in this house. I ain’t gonna be stood up and shut out because you wanna wallow like a baby. Lay it on me, Mav.”

She wanted to kill him. There were multiple ways she would do it. Quick, slow, painful — all of the above. Wyatt Tucker infuriated her to no end. Especially when he began his normal taunts in order to cut the tension. He remembered nothing. Not a singular instant. She’d sat up with him apologizing, wishing it had been different, hoping they could be together. None of it had made it through his thick skull and past the haze that alcohol had created at the forefront of his mind. She wanted to scream, perhaps cry. Shiloh could have killed him right here and now. 

“You think it’s funny?” She asked with a tilt of her head. “I had to drive you home because you could barely walk straight.“ One shove against his chest, and her voice increased in volume. “I let you kiss me, listened to everything you said. How much you loved me and wished to have me back.” Another shove. “I told you everything that I couldn’t in the past. I let you fuck me.” She almost screamed now. “And you can’t remember a fucking thing? Do you think that’s normal— Funny?” 

Her voice fell, inching closer. “You have a problem.” Far larger than she realized. 

However, it was the next set of words that stole every ounce of air in her body. She deflated; each word felt like a slap. She’d told him she was still in love with him no longer than a few days and he was now giving her the divorce she’d asked for previously. “No,” she said simply, breathed out the word. “I’m going to help you.” She’d live to regret it, she knew. “You’re all over the place. You don’t know what you want.” She looked him over for a moment. “Are you drunk now?” Could she even tell at this point? “You have two weeks, Wyatt. Two weeks to get your act together and your drinking problem in order.” Not quit, but merely to an acceptable level. “Or else I’m moving back home, hubby.” Only when she knew his mind was clear would she take his words seriously. She wouldn’t return to live happily ever after. No, to babysit a thirty something year old man. 

The time they shared together over the past couple of weeks had blurred dangerously together in a cloud of conflicting emotions. His lethargic brain couldn’t quite capture the truth that peeked up behind her scowling gaze and unkempt fury. Wyatt couldn’t understand why she had acted so callous one moment and loving in the next. Although, in all of the chaos that swept up after the party, he felt all of the confusion falling off his shoulders. When Romeo ran off with Marilyn, the world assumed nothing of the seriousness of such a sight. That the collision of those two fake personas was a metaphor for their true lives. He was the ill-fated romantic that chased after the star. 

A modern day Icarus. 

Wyatt dreamed of the moment that she took any measure of care in his life. That she would magically remember why she loved him and all of his dysfunction. In the dim lights of the morning, he relived the pieces and parts of that evening. Her lips soft against his own needier ones. The proclamations of his longing and her love whispering to his soul. He should be rejoicing in such sentiments but he couldn’t ignore the truth of his life. He was never going to change. The scars were cut deep in his soul and he didn’t have the resolve to save himself. He didn’t have the fight left to torture her with his burden. “Nothing about this is funny,” he hissed. Wyatt leaned into her shove, refusing to allow her to place any more distance between them; especially while he had some clarity in the wake of his momentary sobriety. 

“I do love you, Shiloh. That ain’t never going to be untrue.” Wyatt’s hands gently curled around her wrists to halt the abrupt force of her hands against his chest. He didn’t want her to hurt herself trying to hurt him. All she needed to do to wound him was to leave. Wyatt shook his head at her words with a humorless chuckle. “I can stop whenever I want, Shi.” I don’t want to stop. 

“Shouldn’t you be happy? I’m giving you what you wanted for so long. You want a divorce and I’m giving it to you. You don’t have to take care of me. You wanted to be free and I don’t want to torment you anymore. I ain’t your responsibility no more but it felt nice to be able to take care of you. I’ve realized that you don’t need defending no more. You don’t owe me nothing. I’m fine and no I’m not drunk. I’m dry as a bone,” for now.  He allowed his hands to fall from hers. 

 “You’re bigger than this town, Shiloh. Bigger than me and I accept it now.”

"I guess we can both sit in time out and watch them flirt across the aisle.” Wyatt slid into the space beside Greer with a scowl. He never particularly liked how friendly Austin was with Shiloh; and it wasn’t like she didn’t enjoy the kindness. “At least there’s boozes, right?”

Gabrielle was exhausted. She managed to grab a seat at the counter of Red’s, ordering the biggest stack of pancakes and bacon she could. She grabbed a Coke, only needed enough caffeine to eat and get home. The waitress smiled after she took her order, often being the one she came to after an overnight shift. “Remind me never to work overnight on Halloween ever again,” she said with a chuckle. “Not only did I miss the fun, but I was reminded just how downright dumb people can be.” @tupeloextras​

"At least it wasn’t me who ya were treatin’, doc.” Wyatt winked at the waitress as she passed. “Did anyone bleed on ya?”

“I know,” she whispered with a nod. “It’s not okay.” She had told the male to fuck off but he needed a big dose of his own medicine. Any other day, she would have been more than grateful to show him that the gum at the bottom of her shoe held more respect than he did. Not today. Not after this week. Arms wrapped around the male as he beckoned her closer to him, fingers coiling around the material of his shirt to will him in place. She had been the one to come and go from his life like a whirlwind. She came when she pleased and demanded his attention before leaving without warning. Yet he still welcomed her with open arms, at the ready to protect her despite having been the one to welcome the initial attention. She didn’t deserve him. Shiloh took and left nothing in turn. His breath ticked her neck, shooting shivers down her spine as she heeded his warning. “Wya…” his name died on her lips at the abrupt departure. 

She watched long enough for him to close the space between him and the joker, grasping the male by the neck. Oh shit. “Move,” she called out to patrons who stood in her way, shoving others who took too long. Her arrival coincided with the male’s apology, having certainly noted her arrival and put the pieces together. A darkened gaze fixated on the male, venom lacing each word. “I suggest you go home. We’ve spared you tonight but if you so much as look at another girl, I’ll let my husband make good on his words.”

Her attention turned to Wyatt, fingers sliding across the expanse of his torso until they settled on either side of his face. “Wyatt.” She whispered, willing him to fixate on her. Not the individual who’d sealed his fate by daring to touch her. 

“Let him go. He’s not worth it. You won’t get to dance with me if we’re in jail, baby.” She spoke softly as her forehead pressed against his. He tasted like fire. Nicotine and alcohol lingered upon his lips and lured her in as the rest of the world melted away. The blonde had always been attracted to danger, willing to play with fire despite the sting that was sure to come. This was no different. Her lips brushed his softly, pressing her form into his, throwing caution to the wind in her last attempt to curb his anger. “I’m right here, baby,” she whispered before her lips crashed into his. An hand slid down the front of his chest, clutching not his shirt but the ring she knew rested upon his bare chest. Right here. 

The light expression of his loyal oozed through the violent tightening of his fist. Wyatt wasn’t too far gone to rationalize the possible consequences if he proceeded to lay this guy out. Everything in him s c r e a m e d to release all of the pent up rage till his knuckles bled. If he did, he’d stay on target with his usual restful days sleeping across the concrete slabs at the county jail. Wyatt sucked in a sharp breath waiting hungrily for the idiot to ask for a little more action. His fingers flexed along the fabric forcing the flimsy emerald suit to weave between them. Shiloh’s voice danced lightly above his tone deaf ears; a gentle siren’s song for the wayward sailor. Although, he hadn’t loosened up. Despite her efforts to piss him off in the past, no one could ever cross her boundaries or speak poorly about the physical embodiment of his heart.

Wyatt acknowledged the ghosting feeling of her breath against his skin and light pass of her fingers along his skin. For a spilt moment, the fury that blossomed in his breast followed the pass of her skillful fingers; she left a tingling burn that no woman could ever replicate across his chest. Wyatt reluctantly tore his eyes from the man to focus on her. His brutish exterior cracking beneath her touch and melted away the heavy quilt of his armor. Still, he couldn’t quite shake the desire to beat that man into a million insignificant pieces. Shiloh’s hand drifted dangerous along the valley of his chest and settled on the dainty gold chain that swayed beneath the silken fabric of his shirt. It wasn’t much to look at and he didn’t wear it for aesthetic. The main purpose for such vanity was simply to hold the most sacred thing he owned; his wedding ring. With an annoyed sigh, Wyatt forced the man back against the wall before curling his arms around her waist. 

“We’re leaving.” Wyatt pressed a kiss along her shoulder before sweeping her up off her feet. He didn’t care if she would argue the point or pout. If she did he would simply say ‘The lady doth protest too much, methinks’.

It took her a moment to notice the tight grasp upon the bottle of jack. Now, it was all that she could see when he approached her. She wondered if it had always been this bad and she had been so consumed in herself that she’d failed to see the warnings signs. Was she one of the reasons he’d taken to the bottle so religiously? A mere escape after her departure that it was now what he needed to feel normal. She was sick to her stomach. While selfish and self-centered; she was not an heartless person. Certainly not with those she cared for most. His approach came slowly and Shiloh didn’t fight the proximity as an hand rose to his chest in order to steady him despite his sober appearance. A functioning alcohol didn’t make him less of an alcoholic. Light hues flicked upwards towards him as different scenarios played to mind. “It’s okay,” she began with a dismissive shake of her head. “I think he’s gone. We lost him.” The bottle lands to her feet and despite the painful sting of wasting an half-empty bottle of jack, she pushed it with the toe of her heel until it falls to the ground. 

He wouldn’t back down, she knew him well enough. “Let’s go together.” Somehow, she’s convinced herself that only she can reign in the man. Her chin juts in the direction of a shorter but stocky male. “The creep dressed as a joker.”

The billowy material of his shirt blew haphazardly in the autumn breeze. Wyatt wasn’t necessarily thinking about the consequences of wearing something so light. Tupelo didn’t get terribly cold but the nights were bitter for some of those without company. He wondered if it had just been the internal chill that he experienced; a secondhand symptom of a man without a heart. Shiloh carried it around on her sleeve. “It’s not okay,” he muttered with a curt sounding bite curled between each syllable. Shiloh may not care about the lines that men crossed with her. Hell, maybe she felt powerful telling them to fuck off. That didn’t mean he had to stand for it. No one, and he meant that with his whole chest, would ever dare speak poorly about his wife. Ex or otherwise. Wyatt didn’t like to think about the darker days when the wound of her departure had been fresh. People just uttering her name was due cause for a fight. How many nights had he spent in the cage after beating a man sense for assuming they knew their situation. 

Wyatt’s gaze tipped back to the shout idiot that was about to rue the day he decided to cross her path. His hold on her lightened for a moment as the soft sound of glass scraping against the concrete. A damp river of liquor permeated through the porous surface stemming from the neck of the bottle. He didn’t care about the absence of his vice; not when his original one had stood in his arms. Wyatt’s hand curled around the back of her head and gently passed along the nape of her neck. He kissed her temple before his lips hovered along her ear.“Stay here,” his husky tone lowered an octave to illuminate the sheer depths of his command. 

Wyatt pulled away from her and swiftly moved through the crowd of people who encircled the walmart verison of the Joker. His heart thrashed against his chest. “Hey,” he growled. “You wanna say that stupid shit to me, kid?” His hand jutted out to grab him by the scuff of his neck. “I’m feelin’ benevolent tonight. Apologize and you’ll leave with your teeth.”

“Ew,” Shiloh said with a wrinkle of her nose when she walked away from a guy. A look over her shoulder told her that he wouldn’t give up that easily as he attempted to follow her through the crowd. Taking an hard turn through the masses, the brunette rushed towards the balcony where she caught the figure of a lone man. A last ditch effort. Stepping outside, her gaze flicked behind her shoulder as she directed her words towards the nearest male. “Hey, can you pretend to be my boyfriend for a second? This guy has tried to grab my ass three times while telling me to follow him into the fucking bathroom.” Not that she was above that shit, but she didn’t like to feel like she had no choice in the matter. Plus, Shiloh would only do so if she was the one who initiated the bathroom visit. Her gaze flicked to the man but instantly halted, feeling like a train had run her over and left her stunned when she came face to face with Wyatt. “I…. “ Fuck.

Wyatt gave into the hazy feeling that sunk deep onto his shoulders and pinned him to the concrete overhang. The swift moving breeze passed quickly over his flushed skin. He happily excused himself from the festivities with a bottle of Jack to wash down the vivacious sight of his soon to be ex-wife. Shiloh had always been a mystery to him. One minute she wanted a divorce and after years of relenting, he finally gave in--for her to tell him no. His brief moment of sober thinking dropped out of view. He pulled a long swig from the amber colored liquor allowing himself to sink further into his pity party. She looked beautiful; truly a dream. Every step he took towards her, she was one step farther. What a cruel joke. Through his sickeningly heavy haze, the sweet plea called to his hero complex. Without a single hesitation, he placed his around the woman’s waist and dragged her into him. “No creep will bother you...” his gaze dropped to the angelic face that haunted his dreams. Wyatt felt the rushing burn of rage fire through his veins. 

“Where is he?” Wyatt’s placed the bottle down at their feet. “Point him out.”

His approach rattled her nerves and knocked her off balance. As a woman who prided herself to be in control of all aspects, she could easily be swayed by the presence of the other. Often pulled into his orbit, her mind went hazy until she felt like her chest would implode with unspoken emotions. She loved him more than she even understood, constantly battling herself to keep the desires she had at bay. It was no longer possible for them, she continued to whisper until that little voice would return with; but what if?

“You, yes!” She hissed back at him with a pointed gaze. “It’s sure as fuck isn’t me who kissed you first. I didn’t start telling you how much I wanted you back.” She swallowed thickly as she peered up at him. The blonde wanted nothing more but to shake those thoughts free. Pull the memories from his subconsciousness so she wouldn’t have to fill the blanks. “We slept together, Wyatt. I told … We both said shit that I thought meant something.” Her gaze flicked above his shoulder as the concept of meeting his gaze felt like it could tear her apart. “Imagine my fucking surprise when I realize you don’t remember shit about it.” Her shoulder rose and fell as she stepped back, building the wall that had crumbled that night in front of his face. It had hurt. A mere fraction of what she had done to him, she knew, but she could still taste bile at the back of her throat. 

“So yeah, I’m so fucking tired.” She said softly, her form stiffening slightly when his hands grasped her own form. An azure gaze flicked up to meet his, unable to come up with a witty or mean comment to throw in his direction. It had drained her entirely and she wasn’t entirely sure where to go from here. 

A deep chill blanketed his sober frame at the details that spilled from her lips. What Wyatt hated more than his minor slip up was that he couldn’t remember at what moment he allowed himself to fall to ruin at her feet. Was it in the truck on the ride back? Had he not been able to hold his ground long enough for her to feel any remorse for leaving? Sucking in a sharp breath as he mulled over some snappy comeback; to no avail. The light permeated through the rustling foliage that filled in the gapped spaces of silence with its lively cacophony of sound. Wyatt’s oil stained hands passed over the rough denim overalls out of a nervous habit; as if to wick away the moisture that beaded along his palms. Shiloh had him dead to rights and there was no escaping her gaze. 

“Well do say somethin’ about drunk words are sober truths..” his witty retort had been reduced to some lame quip. There was no escaping the shame that he felt. Had he once again ruined the one shot he had at happiness? “Was I good at least? I gotta really give it to willy  keeping up the good fight against one too many beers.” Wyatt’s expressed soured at the distance she forced between them. His hold on her weakening and allowing the chill the stick. Shiloh was going to leave again and again. No matter what he did, he could feel her receding into the wild like a rogue wave that defied the still shore. 

So yeah, I’m so fucking tired.

“Me too,” he said softly. “I ain’t gonna stand here no more and lie. I never stopped loving you and I don’t think I ever will. We can’t go back. I can’t bring back what we lost and I..” Wyatt stepped back to give her the last bit of courage to flee without resistance. “..I’ll sign ‘em. It ain’t worth it anymore--torturing you. Bring them papers and I’ll sign them. No lawyers, no court. 

“You’ll be free of me like you want.”

Shiloh felt every single control she had go out the window as the male turned the blame on her. At least for her current reaction which had to do with him in its entirety. Sure, Shiloh knew that her actions had been problematic and cruel in the past. She took full responsibility for that. Nevertheless, she had spilled everything she’d kept hidden for months for what? Nothing. To say that she was angry was an understatement. “My problem?” The blonde watched him as if he was insane. Her head shook and she couldn’t help the bitter laugh that tumbled from her lips when he dared ask her such a question. An high pitched scream spilled from her lips as frustration bubbled out of her chest cavity. Frankly, it was either that or throw a fist at his chest. Mainly because it was all she could reach. 

“You’re my fucking problem!” She pointed at him. “You are always my fucking problem.” Her head shook at him as she stepped back in an attempt to keep herself calm. “You made me bring your ass home and then you said very stupid shit. Shit that I believed.” She couldn’t help it, the words spilled from her mouth without control. Not that she’d dare go in depth as to what was shared. She watched for some recollection as she stepped back. “Not that it fucking matters because clearly you have no idea what the fuck I’m talking about.” Her arms dropped in defeat. She was stupid to have entertained any of it. 

“Yeah, I’m fucking exhausted.”

"Yes! Goddammit Shiloh,” he said with a roaring gusto. The blistering shine of the sun only worsening his already dipping mood. Wyatt would be lying if seeing her didn’t send a thrill down his spine; maybe today will be the day she comes back. In that moment of ignorant hoping, the bitterness settled over his bones like an incurable frost. For many moons, he had been shrouded in darkness without her. Now that she was near but forever far from his grasp, he felt the bolstering pressure bearing down on his weak bones. 

“Me,” he hissed through slotted teeth. His head shook with a curt sharpness as he followed up in her heels. The grease stained overalls glistened in the afternoon sun. Wyatt listened but her words falling on deaf ears. He had only remembered bits and pieces of that evening. The scent of her skin lingered in the bed of his trunk from the night before. Blurred thoughts outlining the  words that they exchanged before it faded to black. “What did I say? I mean damn I say some stupid ass shit on the regular so you’re going to have be more specific.” Wyatt spat back. The warm breezing fantasies of her lips falling over his or the silken feeling of her heart beating in tandem with his own disturbed the anger that clouded his judgment. 

Reaching out, he broke the fragile agreement between them not to touch, and grabbed hold of her arms. “Will you stop? For a second, be real with me. Are you tired of this?” Despite his own anger, he couldn’t watch her be miserable. Wyatt thought it would fix him to know she was just as sad as him but he only made him feel even more worthless.
