"Just don't throw it all away."
song lyrics
i didn't do a solo
I found this on my personal & it’s too damn true
Allen Ginsberg beat model poem
Trying to stay awake
But your eyes can't stay open
Glued to the world in your eye lids,
Closed so tight
In hopes of seeing nothing scary
Wishing the bad dreams away
Awakening to a brand new day
just to do it all again
Remembering back
to sometime when
it was easy to stay awake
ee cummings poem
where
to leave the box(Brittle,
falling apart)
Securing the
consciousness of
one for so long,
(no longer carry
ing the security)
Leaving one on his
own left to won
der his consciousness a
lone
The wonder led to an op
en opportunity to ex
plore his self, and know
his self, he grew to like
his self.
And realize
d the box was
never needed.
HoMS Synecdoche
My synecdoche for "House on Mango Street" is a sentence on page 64. the sentence being, "Come back again on Thursday, when the stars are stronger." I chose this quote because it connects to the whole story, and I feel like the connections made with this quote helped me understand the story better. Some literary elements highlighted in the quote are imagery, symbolism, setting, and characterization.
Imagery is highlighted in which one can easily visualize "strong" stars in some way. Imagery is also highlighted on page 86 in the quote "People who live on hills sleep so close to the stars they forget those of us who live too much on earth. They don't look down at all except to be content they live on hills." The image that appears in my head while reading that quote tells me a small story about struggle leading to success and happiness.
In my synecdoche, and in different parts of the book, the stars symbolize different things. In my synecdoche, they symbolize strength. Referring to the quote on page 86, the stars symbolize getting away and happiness. They also symbolize power, referring to the same quote. The stars symbolize getting away and happiness because the closer you are to the stars, the farther you are from your past and worries, that's why people would be content to live on the hills. "I know. Is waiting for a car to stop, a star to fall, someone to change her life.", on page 27, has a star representing the patience needed for good things to happen. If a star were to fall, it would be a long time before it were to reach the ground, so you'd be waiting quite some time for your change(s) to occur. Patience reflects the whole book because Esperanza's just waiting for her life to change, she's waiting to be comfortable.
Setting and characterization in a way reflect each other in the story. Characterization is highlighted by the language used. The language shows that Esperanza's character is hopeful, despite the uncomfortable obstacles she's faced with. The language also shows Esperanza's character because it's obvious that she's different and insecure, but at the same time, the language shows that she dreams beyond the earth she's use to, and that's where setting comes in. The setting is the stars, so night time. At night is when people have the best dreams. It's like the stars and night give Esperanza a more hopeful feeling about a better future.
My HoMS Synecdoche sucks so much. This is ridiculous.

"Don't let the chance pass by."

Change is good, well kind of.
Response:
I chose this passage because I've waken up feeling sad before as a result of a dream. Sometimes dreams show the reality of everything, and some times the overwhelming feeling is inevitable. You can't help but to feel worthless, like you're wasting your life away. It's life, most people will feel that way at some point in life. Those type of feelings really do have the ability to make someone feel alone in the world, even if they're not. I think dreams allow you to be open to a reality you're unaware of while awake, and whether that reality makes you or breaks you is your choice. If you feel worthless, do something worth the while, make something of yourself.

College essay/Personal statement
Ever since I was little, I’ve had this weird fascination with cameras, pictures, and memory. It amazed, and still amazes me how a camera can capture a moment or memory and store it so it’s there forever. A picture really is worth a thousand words, and it’s interesting how no photo can be exactly identical to another. Even pictures very similar have their differences; whether it’s the angle the picture was taken, colors, or just natural differences.
Eventually, I started wondering how photographers take such good photos. I figured it was more difficult than it seemed, and I was right. One day I put myself behind the camera, and that’s when I knew I wanted to be a photographer. I started taking pictures of anything and everything. Of course, they didn’t look so good at first, but within time, my skills increased a lot. When I was fifteen, I received a Canon Rebel XT DSLR camera bundle set for Christmas. Since then, I’ve learned a lot about professional equipment, and I’ve gained a lot of experience with photography.
I want to major in photography and become a professional photographer because it’s my dream, my biggest goal, and because the only time I’m really peaceful and without worries is when I’m behind the camera. I love to take pictures of nature, particularly flowers and leaves. But lately, I’ve been experimenting with taking pictures of people. When people see the picture(s) I’ve taken of them, it makes me feel good because they feel good about my work, and really, themselves.
My experience with photography and people lead me to want to be a portraiture photographer. The goal of portraiture photographers is to capture the personality of whatever they’re shooting. In most cases the subject is usually a person or an animal. I would like to be a portraiture photographer because it’s not just the picture itself that makes it good; it’s the mood, and it’s what the picture is really saying, which is different to different people. Photography is something that’ll always be with me, and even if I don’t go pro, I’ll still love photography.

Leaving behind reflection
As soon as I got outside, two leaves flew away on their own, but I retrieved them. On the two leaves were "Myself" and "Love". I found it kind of weird how those two leaves got blown away first, and at the same time. Then after I got the leaves back, I ended up letting them go first, it felt right. When I said "Myslef" was something I wanted to let go of, to start over, it felt definite. Saying it out loud made me realize how much I wish I could start over.
I let go of the "Love" leaf second because I'd rather be a loving person than having so much hatred and negativity built up inside myself. Love in general is a hope for my future, and to have true love is another one; to love and be loved back. It felt good to let go of that leaf because I realized I can be as loving as I would like to, I just never really tried.
Letting go of my leaf that said "Stress" didn't really feel like anything. I don't think it felt like anything because stress is deeper within, and to be completely stress free takes a lot. I also don't think it felt like anything because at the time, I was actually stressed out. How ironic.
When I let go of my leaf labeled "Photography", I felt good. Letting that leaf go felt good because photography is something I hope to always connect with. I feel like my photography success will go as far as my leaf goes, that can be far on a windy day.
The last leaf I had to let go of was for my past. My past has always crept on me and I've always dwelt on it. I'd rather just let it all go and leave it in the past. It felt good to let go of that leaf, and I feel like I really let go of some of my past. It was cool to watch all my leaves get carried away with the wind, and it makes me wonder where they'll end up, or if anyone will find them, if even I will be the one to find them.

"Big Fish" Purpose
I feel like the purpose of the film "Big Fish" is to show the importance of bonding with and understanding your parent(s). I feel like that's the purpose because throughout the whole film, Edward Bloom was going back and retelling his story(ies). Will, Bloom's son, thought every story his father told was a lie, but that's because him and his father never talked, so he didn't really know or understand him until after he became a big fish. I realized that this could be a purpose because when Will and his father were talking about the iceburgs, they kind of opened up, but still no spark.

Letter to the future
If I were to have a child…
I would surround him/her with joy and positivity.
I would want him/her to always be happy.
I would teach my child not to fear anything.
I would assure my child that the figures seen are shadows, and the noises heard are from the wind.
I would fall into a love-filled hole when looking in my child’s eyes.
I would teach my child the joys of the world, and let him/her experience the world’s misfortune for his/her self.
During unfortunate times, I would be there with loads of concern, love, and open arms.
I would want my child to understand that life’s not easy and the world’s not perfect, but I would want my child to understand more that being happy is always worth it.

Imagery lab poem
Crunching leaves on the ground,
In the month of October
Though they’re dead, a chocolately brown.
The red-orange leaves, like lava and fire
Are bothered and fall from trees when the weather is drier.
Early in the morning when the fog is smooth,
The mist is powdery; the light brown leaves,
Look up and say “bye” to me.
The night time wind makes my coffee cold,
Swirls of color, it’s still not old.
Tan and brown, tad bit of egg white,
Sugar and cream, cause sleep is what I fight.
Although the scent seems light like a leaf,
It’s stronger when you sniff way underneath.
The weather, leaves, nature and all,
It feels so good that it’s finally fall.
