Dergun.
this is a pretty fun April Fools Day game! Snake where you eat reblogs, likes, comments, blazes, and your own followers, and the followers end up, well, following you! Clever.
This is cute and I'm enjoying it!
Finally finished this!!
My Windsonde character Chius showing off his (lacking) flight skills with @wyrd66 's Thanh and @kaseysnowart 's Rhys. He's totally going to get soaked right after this moment lol, and Thanh and Rhys both know it. :D
I'd started this waaay back in 2015 and never had the courage to tackle it. However now with the reopening of Windsonde I had the perfect opportunity to finally do it!
This is soooo cute!! I've been staring at it all day. Thank you for drawing my boy!
I can't believe I forgot to share this, but I pulled this out of the kiln a couple weeks ago. I'm very happy with it, but I still might add some gold luster to the antlers and infinity symbol.
ahh i love world building and thinking about alien species. would you mind talking about your aliens for a bit? or can i see your other blog? (all good if you'd rather not!)
Thank you so much for asking!
My aliens are called paski, and I jokingly call them my xenophobic communist llama aliens. Below is a drawing I made just now just for you of the four subspecies (all ladies; the males have different horns):
Left to right is a Raatasira paski (desert subspecies), Binasinga (islander), Caandiki (temperate), and Pilasira (arctic). There used to be a fifth subspecies, the Takasira (steppe), however they are extinct due to a genocide put on by the Raatasira a couple millennia ago.
The Raatasira took over the world in Ye Olden Days and run things with an iron fist. Everyone has their own language(s) and culture(s), but every single paski must also speak Raatasingh. You know how it goes. Colonialism.
They're spacefaring, and about thirty five years go made First Contact with humans, had a war about it, and lost. Now the two species have an uneasy peace and are working out how to live together. Right now there is one (1) joint human/paski world colony, and a handful of joint space stations. Since this is a very recent development, there are Tensions.
Things I think are neat about these guys:
Tech is a mixture of ceramics and biotech. They have spider cars that are grown in labs and have rudimentary learning capabilities. Their spaceships are basically floating shells with living coral inside the walls. You do not want the coral to die. A lot of space travel involves keeping the coral alive.
They have two thumbs-- one grasping thumb and one slashing one. If they smack ya, that slashing claw can open your skin down to the bone.
They've got a heat-sensitive pit organ located in front of each eye. Their vision in general is more red-shifted than ours. They cannot see purple. They've also got much, much better vision than humans, but their senses of smell and taste suck.
Females have double canines.
Females are typically larger than males. Average height for a Raatasira female is up to about 6'5'' (196 cm), while a male is around 6'0'' (183 cm). Pilasira can get larger. Binasinga are the smallest.
They kinda suck! They are very xenophobic, towards humans and towards each other. They are deeply ableist-- the majority of my characters have fallen through the cracks that way and have to turn to humans for help. As stated above, Raatasira run a tight ship and they've got both a military police and a goon squad (called the Protection Force) to keep society in line. It's a bit of a hellhole for folks who don't fit the cookie cutter, but contact with humans is forcing society to change.
I crated them in 2011 when I was majoring in Animal Science, so I was thinking about spec bio all day every day. I had a lovely group of friends who asked me questions incessantly about them, so I developed them quite a bit. If you want to check out my main blog, the tag is "paski headworld". Just be warned it's a tyrannical society, and I spend some time putting a magnifying glass to it. And also I personally have undergone some character development, so there are some things from earlier years that I would change nowadays because I've learned more and grown as a person.
But yeah, paski are my babies. I love them very much. I joined tumblr specifically so I could blather about them to my heart's content.
comet-bugs-in-jars said: oh wow!! Thank you for sharing this, the level of detail is incredible! What sparked the inspiration for them? How'd you come up with the names- is there any meaning to them? I have a billion more questions but I'll take a look at your tag first so you don't have to repeat yourself lol
Thank you for expressing interest! It makes me happy.
The reason I created the paski was because I played Mass Effect and wanted some turians. They were originally going to be avian, but I quickly found that I could not (at the time) draw birds, so I switched to mammals. At the time I created them, a lot of the aliens in the spec bio community that I saw were canid, felid, or dragons. I did not see any ungulates, so that's what I created.
Paski are visually inspired by llamas, giraffes, primates, and mesohippus.
Raatasira means "dark face", after their masked face. Pilasira is "light face". Caandiki is "silver neck", since the majority of them are actually a color morph that makes them silver instead of brown. Binasinga means "no horn" since they are polled. All of these names are in Raatasingh; Pilasira, Caandiki, and Binasinga have their own names for themselves in their own languages.
More naat and a durnaat.
I have been drawing stuff, I just haven't been able to muster the energy to post. Anyway, remember naat? The paski spider cars? Last time I talked about them was in 2019. XD
Anyway, here are some concept drawings. I figured they'd have a lot of variability in appearance, based on area and individual preference. Some of the bodies are built from ceramics, others carved from wood, others grown as shells in coral farms.
You really should be taking care of your naat, but if a leg gets too damaged, it can be replaced. Though because this involves replacing a quarter of the naat's neural ganglia, you can expect your car to be a bit confused and bumbling until it relearns some of the things it will have forgotten.
Here she is! Introducing Spyro!
She’s an 11 week old dachshund and she is huge. Visibly larger than her sister. I hope she doesn’t turn out to be a standard. 😂
She has been incredibly calm so far. No screaming at all when we drove off with her in the car. She’s playful and naps quietly. She already recognizes our voices and will RUN towards us with her tail up.
She’s been fantastic in the hotel room and doing touristy stuff. Absolute darling. Tomorrow we are flying back to the other side of the United States and she’ll get to meet her new brothers.
I acquired another puppy.
Anyway, yes. Today I have completed another revolution around the sun.
a painting for @wyrd66 birthday!
Oh Bolty, you are so sweet. Thank you for remembering. This made me smile so much.
Just throwing this out there, because I don't know where to even start looking.
I kind of want to dress up as a plague doctor. For fun. The #1 issue I'm having is finding a mask that can go over glasses. I've looked on Etsy and the only one I've found that specifically says it goes over glasses is ugly and has a short beak.
Does anyone know of someone who makes nice masks that specifically can go over glasses? I'm willing to look into commissioning a mask instead of buying premade.
All I'm looking for is the bog-standard "cool" bird mask. I don't need anything gussied up. It just needs to fit over glasses. I'm based in the US.
Thank you!
My bubby.
No thoughts, only ball.
I love dachshunds and I cannot lie.
Fucking christ.
Our friendly neighborhood paski would like to remind all my American followers– and anyone else who has an election coming up– to go out and vote! I got my ballot in the mail and will be sending it out on Monday.
It's that time again!
