Outside of maybe Gil Kane, I can’t think of another comic artist who so well captures the kinetic feeling of a blow landing — not only the dynamics of the punch being thrown, but its impact as well. A lot of guys are great at showing one OR the other.

Man, this comic is really paying off. Lots of people getting murdered by Apocalypse’s horsemen. This is a real, proper, apocalypse going down. With lots of Pestilence and Famine. I mean… yes, FINE, it doesn’t actually say that any of these people are getting killed… but it doesn’t say that they AREN’T getting killed either!!! There’s no bullshit G. I. Joe and Cobra pulling there parachute cords here!! I’m free to use my imagination as much as I want and I say these people are fucking getting slaughtered by the hundreds. And look!!! Ronald Regan in a cowboy hat on a movie theater screen!!! This comic has everything!!

Maybe these covers are metaphorical. Like, the last few have depicted Reed killing Sue. He pretty much has been. Emotionally. And this one, like, little Franklin turned the Fantastic Four into zombies and they’re going after Doctor Doom. Um… because, that’s like saying, the Fantastic Four’s parenting has been so shitty they might as well have been dead, and if Franklin wants anybody to care about him he might as well rig up some dead bodies to a complex series of pullies and switches, and then he can use his imagination to pretend like someone is keeping an eye on him. Yeah, that’s the ticket. PS I think it’s great that Doom put a jaw hinge in his mask so when he’s really shocked he can express it. I wonder if he has to press a button to get it to do that.
