Jasper chuckled a little at the manâs fright.
"Come on in.. and follow me."
They moved their way up to the bedroom, each stair being unusually noisy. It did seem that his house had a spirit all of its ownâŠand like a person, it just dislikes some peopleâŠ.and Taecyeon seemed to displease it.
Moving into the bedroom, the suitcase half-filled lay abandoned on his bed.
"Not..very far. Iâm not sure what to take."
Rubbing the back of his head, he began to fumble around his drawers.
"What would you suggest?"
Ren could see shadows, but they made no sense. It was most likely clothing, items that he couldn't recognize, whatever Jasper had.
He stepped his way through, and leaned on an open spot on the wall before shrugging.
"Clothes, all of them. Take things you use every day, things you look at every day, whatever. You can always visit back with the portals for things you may need for a few days or something." He sighed and pushed off of the wall, heading over to the man's desk to sit a little closer. "Clean your fridge, you don't know when you'll be coming back and it'll suck to have to clean it when you come back."
Ren felt strange, stronger, but slightly light headed as he got closer to Jasper.Â
` êł í”ì ìĄŽìŹ ; junhyung & ren
- He discarded the unfinished file and sat down behind his desk as the other took a seat in front of him. Usually, he was against reading through a patientâs mind before letting them say a few things first, to actually have a first opinion of them, and not just skim through the thoughts like they were an open book for him to read. So he put it off for now, resisting the temptation. âMy nameâs Junhyung, but call me whatever makes you comfortable, Ren.â With his hands now clasped and elbows resting on the edge of his desk, his head tilted slightly, trying to read the body language of the man sitting before him. âTell me why youâre here.â
Ren did his best to use his shadows, he hated doctors and anything medical though quite honestly he was in desperate need. According to Yongguk, not a doctor but a scientist, mind you.
Junhyung, Ren nodded and smiled softly. "Thank you."
He sat comfortably, his legs slightly apart due to his legs being just a bit too long for the chair and his hands hanging slack from where his elbows rested. Ren was nervous, it was a first for him since he had his surgery and frankly, he had no idea how to answer Junhyung.
He looked up, trying to match Junhyung's eyes, wherever they were. "I just had surgery, a scientist back at the Brotherhood told me I had this - chemical in my body that would "wake up" or something whenever I use my power." He averted his eyes while trying to be simple, perhaps blunt.Â
"I use my power all the time, I use shadows and angles since I can't see. There was some chip right here," He pointed to the recently stitched incision above his heart. "- it's complicated, really. I'm here because - I don't know what's wrong."
He looked up again, smiling softly. Ren was never someone that'd easily open up or shut down, ironically. If anything, he thought that Junhyung could help with his head. The memories or his name or whatever caused him to fuck up all the time, to either bring them back or push them away.
He didn't know which was better, and he didn't know how to say he was scared. Takahashi Ren and scared were never placed in the same sentence, Woobin said so.Â
Woobin, he wondered why Woobin recommended Junhyung for help with no explanation. Ren had no idea what Junhyung did, he just knew he was a doctor of some sort. In the end, he hoped he'd go thank Woobin, he really did.

Jasper was simply sitting on his bed, all his belongings strewn across the floor. What should he take to the Brotherhood? He hadnât a clue. Thankfully, his new found friend was coming to help. He was mentally relieved, and actually smiled when the other suggested it.
The clanging of the doorbell brought him out of his thoughts. Jogging down the stairs, he peered out the peek hole, then smiled again as he saw the familiar face. Unlocking the door, he pulled it open, and beckoned the other in.
"Thanks for coming!"
He heard the lock click and the door squeal open, it startled him and caused him to jump a bit. He smiled in slight embarrassment and cleared his throat, trying to hide his reaction and nodding with a softer smile.
"No problem, kid." He walked in and shut the door, slightly more cautious than the last time he visited. Ren was quite glad he wouldn't be in this house anymore, at least- not for a while. Not on his watch.
He followed Jasper to his bedroom, the creaks and the moans of each stair sent chills down his back. He really didn't think this house liked him and he found himself saying the comment likewise.
"How far are you into packing?" Ren asked as soon as they were opening the door to Jasper's room.

Somehow I think youâre going to end up burning those files. I spent a long time doing the braille. ⊠If you havenât realized, this is my attempt at guilt. { / shrugs his shoulders, though the other couldnât see it. } I am sorry if I angered you, but there may be something in relation to your past to your reactions to the information. Sadly, Iâd say it must be psychological, but psychology is not a science, but that is something I canât do. I do suggest you come see me in the labs in a few days for blood work, just to make sure it doesnât come back.
(/ lets out a frail chuckle, somewhat of embarrassment for showing the next out of his two friends his weakness; he wanted to say it was irony but alas, it was simply just a coincidence ) - (/ shakes his head persistently, showing Yongguk some dissatisfaction ) Guk, I just- can you talk to me without being the scientist?Â
I want to know what you - (/ hesitates ) - what you're really thinking right now. I know you well enough by now that you know me too well, you know me inside out. Literally. (/ tries to crack a small joke, unsure if Yongguk got it or not ) You talk like you got nothin' else but scientific terms and papers and - I don't know, I feel bad.
(/ waits for a minute, wondering what he was blubbering about ) I just feel bad 'cause, you've always been there for me and - (/ shakes his head before taking a seat on his couch, letting go of his eyes and hardly caring of the blank and stereotypical stare of a blind man, the one where it's always fool-proof, hardly bullet-proof if he didn't have Yongguk there ) - and I've never asked you once how you felt about, this. (/ motions towards his heart, where the surgery was done )Â
You're my friend Guk, I consider you one of my closest yet I don't know what your favorite ramen is or your favorite color. (/ scratches his neck; he felt awkward, it sounded like a confession or something when really it was just a confession to his own guilt ) I mean this sounds weird coming from me, you know? I guess I just feel like a bad friend, you've saved my life and I've never gone out for a drink with you on friendly terms. (/ lets out a heavy sigh, petting Bear and being somewhat startled at the sound of his arm ripping off of the leather couch ) This is my attempt at guilt.Â

The portals weren't too bad, honestly. What was hard to get used to was the landing, especially in Heukyang where there were more reflections from water than pure light. He remembered Jasper's house well, the eerie stench and a sound that went with any move someone made.
Ghost or spirit or living being, Ren swore to god that if Jasper brought out one of those things he'd leave him to another recruiter.
He came up on the porch, knocking and stepping back again like the first time. He remembered the door having some kind of hitch, almost as if there was a trap like every haunted house had. This one could be an exception, but the sooner he got out- truly, it was the better.

The glint in the others eye was unmistakeable, and Jasper grinned. âDeath and I are very, very good friends.â He could tell the other would get what he was implying.
It was like he and Ren were old buddies from time long gone. He hadnât made many friends in his time, but he had made one now.
"Oh, I hope to have many.â He chuckled to himself. âIâve thought of joining before, you see. I just couldnât bear to be ordered around back then.â He chuckled to himself again.
"Not that I enjoy being given orders now⊠but I guess age mellowed me in that way."
Though it was an eerie thing to hear, Ren could relate somehow. Perhaps not the way Jasper had but he could say he'd conquered death a few times more than he'd like.Â
He chuckled softly, "The only orders I take are on paper or from the head honcho himself. I get told what I need to do and why and how swiftly, then I go do it." Ren shrugged, he liked being a terrorist. It gave him an excuse to kill, to steal, to do all things mankind thought illegal and immoral.
With a slight laugh, he wondered of the age of Jasper but found it might be rude to ask. So he changed the subject, quite easily.Â
"You interested?"

He smiled, and remembered how he and Ren had communicated the last time they had met. Letting a small whisp of smoke from from his fingers (which seemed to drop from his sleeve), he motioned it towards Ren, so the other could âseeâ his smile.
A smile could say more than words, after all.
"Oh really?" Ren was seriously interested at hearing the fact that the other couldn't be 'killed properly'. "You're confident in achieving death, hm?"
Taking out the piece of paper that was kindly put into braille for him, he put his fingertips over the contours and couldn't pick up any information of deaths or any near death experiences, but something about spirits and smoke was in there - though not elaborated.
Ren was about to comment on Jasper's sudden positivity, but a sly smile formed on his lips as he could literally see Jasper's smile. It was so strange, not only did the darkness manipulator feel comfortable talking to the man but he clicked with him. Not only did he feel at ease but he literally felt powerful, as if Jasper were some kind of vessel for his power. He needed light, but after reading of smoke - he wondered how far his power could go.
He lifted his eyes, the grey-blue glint only a twinkle but so very well placed. "You'll get a hell of an adventure, trust me."

As she ventured to the same park, she looked around until she caught sight of him. Smiling, she ran over and touched his arm, âRen~ Have you missed me?âÂ
He remembered first joining the Brotherhood in his late teens, Ailee hadn't been much older. As a matter of fact, they might've been the same age. They met on a day where they both had enough pain struck in them to talk to the complete stranger about their life.
Ren chuckled softly before hearing her voice with the tap on his arm, he smiled. "Of course, Ailee." He wrapped her up into one of his bear hugs, then letting go to nudger her chin with his fist. The contours of her face were the same, the shadows didn't dare lie to him when he realized her hair got longer. "It's been a long time, hasn't it?"
He sat back down on the barely functioning fountain, waiting for her to do the same. Just like they did in the past, the old times when everything was hard to wrap your head around. When everything was pretty scary.

âHow about you? What have you been up to? You got pretty big, ugh? Not as big as big bro here, but still, you came out alright.â It was actually a miracle how incredibly at ease he felt around Ren and how he could easily play around without feeling constricting. It was actually nice for a change.
Woobin really had grown, not only physically but as a man. He hated to keep comparing him to the young teenager he once knew, but it was only a good excuse to put on a smile. Of course, the little joke eased all tension Ren had stitched to his insides. Like a balloon, the good feeling grew with every word of Woobin's soothing voice, even the sound of his short chuckle.
Ren didn't answer, afraid of making himself a fool that spoke on the whim. Instead, he put a hand through his hair and tried to make out the shadows around the contours of the man's face. He painted the picture in his mind the best he could, noticing that the structure of his eyes lying above his strong cheekbones hadn't changed. He always found himself strange for seeing people's faces through structure and not by beauty or the opposing factor.
"Eight? Wow." He murmured. It had been so long, too long perhaps. Ren smiled softly the best he could in attempt at comfort. He knew all too well how Woobin felt of his father, Ren remembered the way he murmured about his past. Broken sentences that made a story with enough perception to make Ren give him pity, perhaps jealousy. Come to think of it, he supposed that Woobin knew nothing of Ren considering he didn't have a chance to say much back then.
Ren smiled again, this time he was much lighter in mood. "Oh, look at the old man - already boasting about his extra centimeters." Adjusting his position slightly, Ren tried to be a litte mor comfortable on the uneven cobblestones. He was uneasy, he thought perhaps that the older would be somewhat ashamed to hear of what has happened to him.
"I uh-" He pulled his knees up to his chest like a child, using his arms to hold them close. "- joined the Brotherhood. No other place to go, you know? I've been doing good, I thought they'd help me in my skill sets and maybe - I dunno, make me feel a bit better about myself then I did at age thirteen. When we last met," He sighed softly and rested his chin on a knee, slightly muffling his voice. "- one of the doctors gave me surgery last week."
"Before we met, I was forced to come here with my parents. Back then, the Heukyang government had a small anti-mutant group and they took me and my parents in. I guess my parents had something they wanted and they had to beat the life out of them - and me - to get it." He blinked and sighed with slight aggravation. "I remember hearing my name being called in a way it's never been before, that's- that's why I acted that way just now..."
"They let me go, I don't know why, but I ran and ran until you came along." Ren smiled softy. "As much pain as you and I were in, you reminded me of my family. After I woke up one day, you were gone and I only hoped you were safe." Another sigh, he tried to make the monologue as clean as possible.
"By then, someone from the Brotherhood picked me up and now we're back in full circle. The surgery from last week was to remove some kind of chemical that was injected into my body. I used to get real sick when I wasn't in the light, it would act like a kind of poison whenever I used my power, see. And now that it's gone, my body feels like it has nothing to rely on."
He laughed quietly at himself in embarrassment, "God, I'm sorry. I really got going, didn't I?" He spoke like a child, all his Brotherhood-trained cleverness and professionalism went away in an instant.
Just like that.

Nodding and chuckling, it felt like he was talking to an old friend. âYes, thatâs right. I believe I head-butted you, if my memory serves correct.â He couldnât help the chuckled in response. âWell, when you look how I do⊠sometimes mistakes are made, I guess.â
He shook his head. âOf course not. It takes more than just a cell and a muzzle to scare me away.â Standing up, he wondered over to his liquor cabinet. âDo you want a glass? I have eitherâŠwhiskey or whiskey.â He poured himself a decent portion before returning back to his seat.
He sat there in silence for a moment, before asking the question that had just arrived on his lips.
âSay⊠I was to accept. What then would happen? What will I need to do?â
"I remember that well," Ren smirked. "- then I suppose it's good that I don't know how you look, hm?"Â
He listened, almost amazed at how the courage behind Leo's voice. The raspy sound of his voice added good enough of an effect, if Ren got him into the Brotherhood he was sure he'd do more than fit in.Â
"Oh no, thank you though." He wanted one to be honest but he'd be ashamed to drink on the job, it's been a while since he had his last drink and he was afraid he'd get hooked again.
Ren put a finger to his lips in thought, nodding slowly before speaking. "Well, we have different jobs you can take. For instance, I'm a terrorist. Quite literally, my job is life threatening and I get missions that depend on different levels of danger. There's also recruiters, though some of us are acting as such for the Brotherhood Purge." He adjusted his seating position, letting Leo take in the possibilities. Ren went on, talking about the positions and ranks, how in a way the whole thing was like the military or a secret service.
"What would happen is in your hands, you'll need to point your finger the way you want to go and depending on your thirst for adventure or perhaps-" He didn't hesitate, knowing enough about Leo as what the file reader told him. "- blood, you'll be a man of the Brotherhood for your own and our cause."

Eulsa was always beautiful, at times it was sickening but of course it was also beneficial for a shadow manipulator like Ren. Sunlight was his main source and Eulsa wasn't the open sky city for nothing.
He sat on the side of the fountain, as he usually did when he visited the deserted park. It was small, on the outskirts of the city. Plants grew to be too big and messy, shadows forming every place where light should be shining through. He had met a certain girl here, someone he clicked with. She acted like Woobin in most ways and Yongguk in others, not that he'd compare but so far the two men were the only family he had.
He waited as he usually did, sometimes she came and other times she didn't. They didn't exchange numbers, for some reason because of the deserted park they felt old-fashioned. Or perhaps they just forgot that they had phones in the first place, that must've been it.
They just forgot.
