So. The Hardy Boys finally found me. Took you long enough.

It's been ages since I was around here... I miss this place.
valtteri podcast wednesday y'all, the topic of today was winning and success, loads of interesting stuff at least to me
• valtteri is very proud of everything he has achieved, only thing that stills bothers him is never getting the driver's championship, but he can say he always gave it everything
• he had no idea when he was younger how much it takes to win a f1 race
• how you win does matter to valtteri, he's not really interested to punting people off just to win a race
oskari: i was thinking during the last lap (of the abu dhabi gp) that this must've been a pretty expensive lap for you as well, am i right in saying that?
valtteri: that singular lap did cost me a few millions yes, lucky i hadn't bought anything with that money, but mercedes found a way to pay me back so to say
oskari: what do you mean?
valtteri: they gave me my 2017 first f1 win car, i just have no place to put it for now!
oskari: we'll, we all have our own problems (laughing). that reminded me of, i was looking at some pictures and videos, not just of you and toto partying, which looked like you had a good time, but also the factory celebrations, and i would say success can be measured also in how people react when you leave, and in that i think you've been incredibly successful
valtteri: it surprised me as well, it was supposed to be just a normal day at the factory saying goodbye, so all they did for me made me tear up a little bit!
oskari: not every driver gets a send off like that, why do you think they like you so much?
valtteri: i don't know, i think when i came to mercedes the atmosphere was quite different to what it is now, they had two drivers who were fighting really hard (on track) and it became political, so just getting the good mood back in the team was a big thing
oskari: to me it says a lot that nico having won the championship said right after that this is it, it sounds like an unsustainable environment and compeletly different to today
valtteri: yeah, what i have heard from the team it was quite different and i think me coming along helped the team develop forward because with lewis we could really share all the data and work together to develop the car
oskari: how does it work because f1 is quite a weird mix of a team- and individual sport, and usually it can get ugly between drivers in top teams, but to the outside it has always looked like you had zero problems, a few moments on track yes but otherwise, so tell me about your relationships, are you friends or enemies or something in between?
valtteri: the first few years it really bothered me that i couldn't beat him over a season, but we always had a good relationship with a lot of respect and could be open with eachother, but there was that normal amount of tension. but i have to say the last two years i have spent a lot more time with him, travelling to races together and seeing eachother outside of races, and now he's a friend definitely. when we started working together he pulled me aside and said he doesn't want to play any games and i said that i don't either, and we shook on it, may the best man win, and that has stuck
oskari: do you think that it would have benefitted you if you had gone a different route?
valtteri: i probably would have won a few more races but i don't think it would have won me a championship, and i don't think we would have won the constructor's this year for example without working as well together as we do
oskari: what do you think the difference between you and lewis is, because we are talking about a sport with such small margins, what is it?
valtteri: he rarely has bad races, he's adapts very well to every situation. i also have to say, to me i work very hard with the team, go over everything very precisely, but lewis, if he hears i have been at the factory two days, he goes for three days. if he feels uncertain about something, he does something to fix it. this year he was at the simulator almost every week, something he hasn't done before, always going over things, and his commitment is something i can only take my hat off for, i believe that f1 maybe means more to him than it does for the rest of us drivers at the moment.
oskari: why?
valtteri: i don't know, that you will have to ask the man himself! but he has that fire, i don't know if it comes from his youth, that he always has to deliver and get more and show everyone what he can do
oskari: so you think the need to deliver and succeed is higher than anyone else's?
valtteri: yeah, i think the last race of this season was a good example, i saw him many days after the race and the mood was still like at a funeral. even when he knows it wasn't him who lost that race and he was robbed of it you know, it's hard to swallow it being taken away like that. but you just wait and he'll be back twice as strong as he does every time, that's who he is

Jensen’s story about choosing his horse for Rust (SPNDen 2021)
So in the Western [Rust], all the actors go to the ranch, to pick out our horse. And they also want to see what your riding level is. So they put everybody on this one horse, Cowboy. Cowboy’s an old trail horse, so you get on him, and “Okay, alright.”
And then they’re like, “You feel pretty good?” I’m like, “Yeah, Cowboy, he’s a little slow.” [The wrangler]’s like, “Yeah, he’s old, he’s like the kids’ horse.” I’m like, “I’m ready for an upgrade.”
So then I get on Texas. I’m like, “Oh, I like the sound of that, alright!” So I get on Texas, start running around and doing some tricks.” They’re like, “You’re feeling pretty good. We’re going to put you on something a little better.” I’m like, “Okay, great!” They’re like, “Here’s Kevin.”
So I get on Kevin. Kevin’s a good horse! A solid horse. But then I look off in the distance and I’m like, “What’s that big, black horse over there?” Solid black, beauty, like Black Beauty, and just gorgeous. I’m like, “Who’s that?” And the wrangler goes, “That’s Baby.” [Crowd: Ohhhh!]
[JA]: “Yep, Baby’s coming with me!” And then the wrangler goes, “No, no, Bebe.” [JA]: “I don’t care. For this project, that’s Baby! Will he respond to Baby?” [Wrangler]: “I don’t know, it’s probably close enough.” [JA]: “Well, that’s what I’m calling him.”
“So I ride Baby, and he’s goood. We’re going full steam up the hill, down the hill, doing sliding stops. I’m starting to feel really comfortable. This is pfft no brainer.”
Show up Day 1 of principal photography, and the scene where I’m on the horse and come over this ridge and headed down towards an old cabin. I see them loading Bebe up into the trailer. “We’re about to shoot, where’s he going?” [Wrangler]: “Eh, he’s limping today.” [Crowd: Awwww!]
They’re like, “Yeah, we’re going to have to put you on a different horse.” Right about that time, this giant 16-and-a-half hand horse comes around the horse trailer, just this beautiful, huge, quarter horse. And they’re like, “We got the biggest horse for ya.”

Word Count: 2,128
Warnings: mentions of school bullying, mentions of assault, mentions of injuries, panic attack, anxiety
A/N: This is pretty Jay-centric but there also mentions of Will! Something that @study-coffee-chicago basically urged and encouraged me to write so here it is! It’s a little different than what we talked about but hope you’ll still like it! This is a part 2 to this drabble but can also be read on it’s own!
HALSTEAD!SISTER MASTERLIST
Jay glanced at the digital clock on the wall, frowning.
“Something’s wrong, Will.” Jay said, tearing his eyes away from the bright red numbers to look at his brother.
Will didn’t respond immediately. Jay tended to be a little overprotective, more so than even Will was as the oldest brother, and especially since that time you had come home all scraped up. But Will had to admit, even he was getting worried.
“I’ll call her friends on our way.” Will said, grabbing his jacket at the same time as Jay grabbed his.

sky, i hope you have a great day today! i was just wondering bc i always love seeing your posts and liveblogs: do you have any headcanons for the halstead brothers that you’d die on a hill for?
Brenna, I hope you're having a great day too! Ah thank you, I'm glad you love them! I actually have so many because I think about these two too much 😅
• First and foremost, Will is older. You cannot change my mind on this. Ever. (at least not until it's brought up on the show again which at this point I don't think it ever will be)
• He's specifically about 2 years older which means he and Jay were really close growing up and did basically everything together.
• They were both altar boys growing up, Mama Halstead took them to church every Sunday because it was really important to her but Pat rarely went with them. After Pat's time in the army, it just wasn't his thing anymore.
• They took full reign over the neighborhood. Playing hockey in the streets until the street lights came on, they knew every street/alleyway/shortcut from riding their bikes all the time and neighbors were always yelling at them for chasing each other through their yards but they never cared because they were having fun.
• That's not to say they didn't fight growing up, they defiantly did. Over sports, games, girls they liked etc but it always ended when Mama Halstead gave them this deathly glare that only moms can do, they would immediately shut up and make up after that.
• Will is never going to admit it but he cried for a while after Jay left for basic training, he wasn't used to not having his brother/sidekick by his side and was afraid for his safety.
• Jay was going to try to go back to do another tour in Afghanistan after the Humvee accident but when he found out his mom was sick he decided to come home to take care of her.
• Will was still in medical school in NY however so when she died, he had barely made it back in time to say goodbye. Jay is still a bit angry over that because he had to take care of his dying mother and dad who got distant all at once while struggling with PTSD.
• After Pat died, they eventually got a lot closer although we didn't see it much. They’re always go to Blackhawks games or just hanging out at each others places together drinking beers.
• In fact, Will found out about Jay's relationship with Hailey because he walked into Jay's apartment without warning and found them cuddling.
• Will isn't that much older but he still takes great pride in being the protective older brother despite knowing that Jay can clearly handle himself.
• Jay is equally protective of his big brother and with good reasoning because Will, my favorite dumbass, would probably be dead in a ditch without him 🥰
I love all of this.
