Sisters.
Another late shift at the office, Artemis could almost feel the weight of her bones doubling as she walked up the stairs to her flat. It wasn’t often she found herself off the streets and doing paperwork but the situation had called for it. The more and more assignments she and the rest of the hit wizards got, the more precision and understanding of the enemy was involved. It used to be that she could disarm any witch or wizard before they could even blink. Now, they were getting slick and crafty.
She was immediately greeted by Red, her great dane, who nearly climbed up on top of her just to kiss the side of her cheek. “Alright boy, settle down.” Her dark hues caught sight of the collar around his neck, a collar she had never given him before. For a moment she thought it might have been Victoire who put the article around his neck, but it was plain and black, nothing her vivacious, blonde, friend would have picked. “Didn’t take you for a dog person,” the familiar, velvet voice echoed against the walls of the sitting room. She strained her eyes to study all the shadows in the dark room, before her hand moved gracefully with haste to her wand; she cracked her wrist and hex shot out of the end towards one of the curtains. It billowed from the strain of the spell as the silhouette of a woman emerged, unharmed. “You,” the word escaped her in a whisper, her eyes narrowed with both pain and rage.
“It wasn’t hard for me to crack your security spells,” the woman stepped forward into the moon light that was pouring in from the nearest window, spotlighted, a slender woman, similar to Artemis in appearance stood proud and tall. She picked at a strand of her long, charcoal colored hair, as her eyes moved to the dog that approached her to greet her. “He’s adorable, figured he needed a tag.” There was only a little sarcasm in her tone, like she had meant to be helpful and threatening in one go, to announce to her younger sister that she would always be able to get to her, no matter what. “Get out.”
“Is that how you greet your sister? After I came all this way to help you,” her eyes flickered, her long legs moving in front of the other to approach the blonde, waiting for the judging words she knew where coming and as if on cure, “Help?” Artemis kept her tight grip on her wand, her olive skins turning into a shade of rouge from the anger that was building up inside her. “You help me? Tch, Yeah right, did Dad put you up to this Jayda?”
Jayda’s face sunk with seriousness. “No. If Daddy knew I came to see you and didn’t kill you—he’d be furious.” She said this as if it were normal for a father to treat there daughters in this way. She could see the disbelief in Artemis face as she rolled her eyes, “We’re sisters, I don’t actually want you dead.” She tilted her head, judging the blonde demeanor and overall appearance at the moment. “Can’t say I like you very much but still, not dead.”
“Why should I believe you?” She kept her arm sturdy, wand pointed at her older sister as it had been the entire time. “You’ve always belittled me, thought less of me, why should I believe you want to help?” “Because you don’t have a choice,” Jayda raised a hand, her index finger touching the end of Artemis wand to move it away. “Daddy wants you dead, I won’t stop him, but I can at least give you a heads up. “ She crossed her arms, and then began to pace the room idly. “He still believes he can turn you though, hopes to, actually. He knows about how you’re living and who’s in your life. If you refuse to associate with the kind of people you’re suppose to do, than Daddy sees no other way.”
“What do you mean?” Artemis wanted to believe she didn’t know what Jayda was talking about but there was no other way around it. “If you’re associates aren’t pure-blood, then he’ll make them.” She shrugged her shoulders and gave her sister a knowing look. Their father’s profession was all about the pure-blooded transfusion movement. He was almost a master at it if he didn’t lose about 30 percent of the patients. “You’re cracked,” she wanted to let out an annoyed laugh but it just came out as awkward. “No, you are, Artemis, if you think this charade of yours doesn’t have consequences. You’ve started a war and Daddy isn’t going to play fair—if that’s what you think.” “I never thought—“ “Stronger security spells,” she cut off the blonde, as she headed towards the window. She opened the glass and stepped out as if standing on the ledge of the building was no big deal. “I’d stay away from Forrester if I were you. Daddy really, doesn’t like him.” With that, she leaned back against the air before throwing herself off, a loud popping nose, was the sound clue to her apparition.
