hello, I just wanted to come in from a logical standpoint and add to why I think the vecna’s play / curse theory might actually be true.
1. we all know the bridge is the only ep in the entirety of the stranger things series that both shawn levy and the duffers are sharing directing credits for. now, imagine you’re shawn levy, you’ve already directed ep 6, which I would say is the best episode out of all three… now tell me which part in ep 7 makes you desperate to want to attach your name to?
some of you might argue that it could be the coming out scene - which yes I agree to a certain extent but i still highly doubt it because the scene wasn’t even written well… that scene wasn’t even anywhere close to being as good of a coming out scene they wrote for robin.
or maybe its the holly+vecna scenes, but it can’t be that when the shots are all honestly really average. all the scenes were. nothing genuinely stands out to me except for the jancy break up scene/dustin breakdown scene but guys— those emotional scenes all happened in episode 6, shawn levy already directed them. he didn’t need ep 7.
there’s nothing I would say that’s “monumental” about ep 7 that if I was shawn levy would want to attached my name to— especially if it was intended to be written like this..?
it takes a village to make a show, a movie. if we have such an outrage for vol 2 especially with the inconsistency of the characters.. the cast must’ve reacted the same way during their first table read, they probably reacted even harder in fact. like we might know these characters… but they understand these characters like their homes, they’ve lived with them for years and I highly doubt they would let the duffers butcher their own characters like this at the end of the series unless it all adds up in the end.
we’re in the home stretch and it just logically doesn’t make any sense that the writing could get this bad unless it was intentional, unless this outrage from the public was expected because they’re planning to retcon ep 7/vol 2 in the finale.
2. now this point I wanted to make is more personal, idk if some of you felt this way but the first reaction I had while watching ep 7– was that it felt like I was watching something else.
this reaction was raw, it was me staying off the internet, knowing nothing about vol 2 and going into it blind and my first thought was that it feels different right after their show title+credits and the scene began.
ngl at first I didn’t even think too much about it, it was most likely a creative decision but then with the vecna’s play theory taking shape… I’m wondering now if that really was a coincidence because if we’ve seen something enough, we would know them subconsciously… and for ep 7.. i didn’t. I literally thought I was watching a different show for a good few seconds until I forgot about it because I didn’t think it meant anything.. I know this might be a stretch but is it really..?
I know a lot of us are reluctant to put anymore faith in the duffers for the fear of being disappointed again, but the finale is so soon and I think we should all just trust them- one last time that they know what they’re doing, that this was all intentional. I mean, think about these are the same people who wrote vol 1.
remember, writers do not write in a linear way. they have a rough outlines of what they want to happen throughout before zooming in into each scene to develop/split them up/rearrange them etc and more importantly, writers know their ending before working their way there.
