For my final assignment, I inspired my work from the Viewing art lessons and Impressionism lessons. I also decided to design something that has a personal meaning to me because that is a reason to put it up in my apartment. My background is inspired by the viewing art lessons since the main point of that was to make a collage out of material. I decided to design a German flag out of the three colors, black, red, and gold. The reason behind this is simple, I am German and I want to have something related to my home country in my apartment and I believe that was the best way to do so.

The other lesson that inspired this artwork is impressionism. I decided to draw my favorite ever soccer player, Toni Kroos, who is also German. As I said earlier, I wanted to draw something that I can relate to, that’s why I decided to draw Toni Kroos, since he has always been my role model regarding his style of playing, and the love he has for the game of soccer. Impressionism helped me to make the artwork more lively and in motion. I tried to design the German flag as it is waving in the wind.

This painting makes me reconnect to my home, the place I was born, the place I grew up, and the place I love. It connects my homeland to my favorite soccer player; both had a big impact on my life, and I kind of shaped me to the person I am now. And no matter how far I am from home this painting will always remind me where I am from.

SURREALISM

For this project, I got inspired by my friend Liam and his creative mind. In the pictures, he’s holding a purse he made using a tissue box and some old shoelaces. It might look funny, but it actually works as he can fit his wallet inside and carry it around, I think that even his car keys would fit in there. It was a funny creation as I was looking for some inspiration in different areas until I found this one.

I decided to use a sock as my puppet body. I cut out some old magazines and some paper I had left to create a mouth, eyes, and a crone. Since I used a sock, I just put my hand in it and was able to move it. My puppet’s name is Kingston the King, that the reason he is wearing a crown. In his free time, he loves to dance and listen to music. His favorite song to dance to is Mr. Bean’s introduction song.

For my surrealism assignment, I decided to make a special type of purse: a fanny pack. For the main part, I used a Kinder Hippo Chocolate box and for the strings, I used some shoe laces. I have my girlfriend modeling it since she always wears fanny packs around. This fanny pack can be used all year long for different occasions and it will always provide you with a Kinder Hippo Chocolate Bar.

Will we be able to move towards a transport-as-a-service model, or will we still be buying vehicles decades from now, only using them a scan

For this assignment I picked autonomous cars, these are essentially self-driving cars and I believe they will be the future. There are a bunch of cities especially on the West Coast where autonomous cars already have been integrated into the daily traffic. I believe autonomous cars will be a game-changer, especially regarding safety, fewer accidents, and other traffic fatalities. Also, it will increase mobility for people who are unable to drive for example people who are visually impaired. Lastly, it will also reduce emissions by optimizing routes and traffic flow. Overall, I believe autonomous cars will be the future of transportation.

Cubism

I really liked this assignment because it gave me a chance to relax and do whatever I wanted to do. I put on my favorite podcast, drew random shapes, picked whatever pen that was in reach, and cut any kind of things out of magazines or created my own shapes.

This was me messing around and not thinking at all, which I enjoyed a lot.

I really like your art work, Chiara. Especially the background is fantastic!

I enjoyed doing this assignment because you were just able to do whatever you wanted without thinking. I just listened to some music while I was drawing my background and didn’t have to think about what the best drawing would be because there was no restriction at all. That is the reason why I really do like abstract work because there are no restrictions. I cut out my paper pieces from two newspapers I still had and tried to create something. Overall, I enjoyed doing the whole artwork because it was really something you didnt have to think about, you were just able to do whatever you want.

For this assignment, I decided to draw my friend Bo. Bo is also from Germany and we play together in the Men’s soccer team. I decided to use the color red because he is a super passionate and determined guy about everything he does, the best example is soccer I’ve never seen a more passionate guy about soccer than him. I chose the color orange because Bo is someone who always inspires others with his positive attitude. I used the color blue because it best represents his chill but also confident vibe. Bo is someone who is super self-confident, in obviously a positive way. I chose the color yellow to show his bright personality and the ability to make everyone laugh around him. Lastly, I chose the color pink because Bo is someone who does love himself and always wants to stand out to others and expresses that with for example unique clothing. That’s why I decided to color his clothing with bright colors because that is something that stands out to others. I decided to draw an extensive background that seems to be all over the place because I believe that it captures his energy level which also is all over the place in some moments.

In summary, I believe my artwork with the color combinations captures Bo as a person really well.

Assignment 5: Impressionism

For this assignment, I chose to draw Lionel Messi’s stoppage-time winner in the “El Classico” against Real Madrid in 2017. Firstly, for me, the “El Classico’s” are always something special, I believe every football fan can agree with that. Most of the time, Barcelona and Madrid are the best teams in the world, so it is always a clash of the giants. Besides that, it also was Messi against Ronaldo, non arguably the two best players to ever play the game. The picture I draw captures Messi during his celebration after he scored the game-winning goal. What is interesting about this is that he took off his shirt and showed it to the crowd, not just any crowd, it was the Real Madrid crowd. For me personally, that is the picture for the history books because not only did he score the game-winning goal but also his goal celebration in front of the people who probably dislike him the most because they are Real Madrid fans and in their opinion, there is no one better than Ronaldo, but in that night Messi showed them who the best player in the world is.

I will never forget the moment because it was one of the last games Messi ever played for Barcelona before he left the club. Since I started playing soccer, he has played at Barcelona, and I have always loved watching him play, he had a huge impact on my soccer career. This goal was, I believe, was one of the last goals he scored for Barcelona in the “El Classico”, so that how I will remember him, and I believe it’s a good way to remember him.

This image was posted by Ariana Grande before the release of her new single in 2015. You can clearly see how there was a mistake made during the editing process of the picture. The size of her right hand, especially her thumb, is just off and it is almost as long as the upper part of her arm. This image shows how much photo editing is used in pop culture, sometimes to the point of looking unnatural, and we clearly reached that point with this picture. In today’s world, it has become common for celebrities to edit their pictures to look “perfect.” Meanwhile, it is hard to tell if a picture on social media is real or not because the editing apps have also become better. But this picture is an example of taking editing too far and making a picture worse than it actually is.

This image speaks volumes about our culture’s obsession with perfection and the harmful effects of photo editing on mental health. Being constantly exposed to social media and “fake” pictures creates some type of insecurity, especially among young people and fans of those celebrities who compare themselves to unrealistic beauty standards. One photo editing trend I’ve noticed recently is AI-generated images that depict unlikely or fictional scenarios, such as two people from completely different backgrounds kissing. One example I saw was an AI-edited image of U.S. President Donald Trump and Taylor Swift. I believe photo editing will keep advancing and will get more absurd, especially with the fast-paced development of AI. But on the other side, there are a lot of campaigns with influencers that are pushing the natural side of human beings without any editing or with just small adjustments. In the end, it’s hard to say what will happen in the future, but the question will be if people can let go of the word perfection and just accept the naturality

I chose Andres's and Chiara's artwork from homework 2. The relationship I see between these two art works is the way they designed their body. Chiara and Andres both used a simple way to design the upper body and then just four single pieces for their extremities. Also both of them used a human head. Lastly, both picked the orange and blue background.

For my art work I decided to combine both, that's why I used a human head as well as a single piece upper body. My body is more inspired by Andres's work while my background is cleary inspired by Chiara's work. I still made it my own art work because I used different dimensions especially regarding to my body.

For my background, I chose the complementary color combination orange and blue. For the head I just used something random, I found in a magazine. For my upper body I used scrubs worn by a nurse. I decided to go with shorts and Luka Doncic's basktball shoes. To complete my outfit I finished it off with a cape.

For this assignment, I chose the Album cover “For all the dogs” by Drake. The reason why I chose this album is because it was my first Drake concert I’ve attended. My favorite songs on the album is Virginia Beach.

To make it my own I tried to use a colorful background. The original is just black and white as you can see, since I am a person who loves bright colors I wanted to include those into my artwork. I also repainted the dog into black. I also thought about replacing the dog but I decided not to do that because the dog is essentially the most important part in the art work, and the album is named after dogs. That’s the reason I decided to keep the dog on the cover.
