Abstract Expressionism
For my final project, I inspired my work on the first two lessons of our class, Fauvism and Impressionism. I decided to paint the sunset of my hometown in Venezuela, called Barquisimeto. The sky always lights up in shades of orange, red, and yellow creating an amazing contrast that gives me peace everytime I see it. I wanted to capture the feeling of the changing sky by also doing the dark silhouettes of the mountains that surround my city.
Impressionism helped me show the movement and fluidity of the sky and water, while fauvism helped me to use striking colors to show the emotions that the sunsets and the environment can do on people from my hometown. The small boat that I included in the water represents the calm, and it is my girlfriend and me in the river close to my town. The plane and the comet in the sky symbolizes the dreams and goals that I have everytime that I leave the country to comeback to the US with the objective of getting a Degree.
Painting this made me reconnect with my home, my people, and my surroundings. It also reminds me that nothing endures but change, which is a tattoo that I have on my hand to always understand that changes are needed, and movement is the way.
Thanks for all the lessons!
