Bennett raised his eyebrows, entirely unprepared for such an honest answer. He liked it. He liked her, he realised. Even though they had barely said two words to each other. He didnโt understand social conventions that dictated whether it was appropriate to say what you meant. As far as he was concerned, it was always logical to say what you meant without trying to convey the sentiment through small talk and strange phrases. He could definitely appreciate somebody who felt the same way. He grinned easily, eyes shining despite the depressing nature of Chaerinโs observation.ย โNot exactly fun, is it?โ He agreed, pulling up a chair to sit opposite her. He was confident now that if she didnโt want him to stay, she would tell him.ย โI canโt speak for the childhood thing thoughโฆ Iโm sorry about that.โ He added, his smile fading so that she would know he was being sincere in his apology. He and Celestia had been incredibly lucky. There were so many things that could have gone wrong and led them to suffer as children. But their family had protected them, kept them safe, and happy. Arriving at the Academy, hearing the stories of others, made him understand just how lucky he really was.ย โSomething is better than nothing. Youโre not alone here.โย
chaerin masked the shock that she felt when he joined her at the table. usually the wholeย โdoom and gloomโ schtick deterred people from continuing the conversation, even if what she said was true. but bennet seemed... excited? maybe that wasnโt the word, but he wasnโt off-put by her bluntness in the least. that was different.ย โdonโt be sorry, it made me stronger.โ and not in just a metaphorical sense. because of the cruelty of her birth father, she had more time mastering her powers than most of the other kids at the academy. mentally and physically, she knew she could take more than the others. she had always been tough, and sometimes she wondered what she would be like if she had had a cushy childhood with loving parents. happier, possibly. but would she be able to save the world?
โiโm never alone,โ she informed bennet.ย โphysically, yes, sometimes. but my brother is here too. off somewhere studying or trying to make friends iโm sure. but alone isnโt something i ever feel.โ it was definitely a twin thing. despite seojoon having the powers to sense otherโs emotions, he had never been able tot sense hers. but the twin telepathy thing wasnโt a lie. there was a bond there that was much stronger than his powers.ย โso what do you do? they have to have brought you here for a reason.โ
the best thing about his room was how close to chaerin it was. the closer seojoon was to his sister, the better. it had to have been because theyโre twins, but he couldnโt feel anything she was feeling. being around chaerin was a breathe of fresh air compared to how overwhelmed he could get through out the day. seojoon could tell when his sister was closer to him because everything suddenly became quieter.ย โeverything is so loud here,โ seojoon said back to his twin, wincing as he rubbed his temples.ย โi thought everyone at the academy were too much but this is way different.โ sighing, he sat up in bed and let the blankets pool around his lap.ย โi know why iโm not sleeping, but why canโt you?โ
โeveryone at the academy isย too much,โ she agreed with her brother. most of them were too friendly for her liking. they had no idea what it was like to go through everything the twins went through, but then again, few did. of course, over the years, there had been a few people she had grown fond of, but no one ever came close to her brother. it was easy to leave that all behind because here she had him.
there was a familiarity in climbing into bed next to seojoon. when they were younger, he was usually the one to find his way into her room and her bed. but as they grew older, she took the initiative more often, knowing when her presence would be a comfort to her brother, even when he didnโt want to seem like he needed her. being as close as they were, it was something easy to pick up on. even though he couldnโt sense her feelings like he could other people, there was no one who understood her better.ย
chaerin wasnโt the best at talking about her feelings. actually, that was an understatement; she was terrible at it. avoided it at all costs. sheโd rather fight a villain three times her size with an arm tied around her back than have a discussion about her emotions. luckily, seojoon never asked that of her.ย โitโs too new. it feels so temporary that i feel like iโm on high alert. like something bad could happen at any moment.โ at xavierโs school, she had always felt safe. her adopted father had a way of making it seem like he always had everything under control. he was good with people, he was a master of his powers, and he was a protector. she looked up to him more than she realized. she knew she should feel safe her, surrounded be the avengers and a bunch of other kids with powers, but they didnโt know her or care about her. would she be something someone was willing to risk to save their own universe?ย โitโs still a school, i guess, but itโs so different.โ
Bennett was used to running into people he didnโt know. It seemed to happen every day in this world, and even in his own world Celestia had built up quite an Instagram following. All too many times they had been approached in public because one of her followers just had to talk to the daughter of the Scarlet Witch. His own social media being private, and his surname only known to those at his school, he was usually the one left taking the photos, which was something his girlfriend found endlessly amusing. Although he wasnโt the most skilled when it came to tactful social interaction, he definitely wasnโt an introvert. He had no issue with approaching people, especially when they looked like they could use some company. It was how he came to find himself standing in front of Chaerin, a girl he knew from his classes but hadnโt spoken to just yet.ย โHeyโฆ Xavier, right?โ He asked quietly, a hesitant smile on his face. Maybe it was rude to approach somebody sitting alone in an empty on-site cafe, but he wasnโt sure where the line was. He wasnโt sure he cared where the line was.ย โIโm sorry to interrupt, itโs just you- well, you looked a little sad, you know? Is everything okay?โ @xaviernoireโ
it had only been a few weeks since she had moved here, to this new place, this other dimension. but still she was... struggling to figure out where she fit in here. chaerin had never been a very social girl. no doubt her early life stunted her growth in that department, but she never felt like she needed more than her brother. back in her own timeline, she did have friends. the friendships were made to pass the time, to make the every day at her old academy easier and less mundane. there were even potential romantic interests that ended in chaerin lacking just that: interest. flames that fizzled out quicker than her partners would have hoped. she just never feltย anything more than a need to satisfy a desire. sometimes she considered the idea that she was broken and in capable of forming any kind of deep relationship with anyone other than her brother.
so it wasnโt rare for the older xavier twin to be spotted alone. what was new was that someone was attempting to approach her. most people were too intimidated by her, especially the people she had class with (here and back in her own timeline). is question was surprisingly straight forward, and while she didnโt appreciate the pity or concerned look, she did like that he didnโt beat around the bush.ย โthe timelines weโre all from are going to fall apart if we donโt get good enough to save them. that, and i had a shit childhood. iโm not sure sad is the right word, but iโm definitely something.โ

chaerin has always adapted easily. the move from south korea to new york had been easy for her. there was nothing to tie her to her old life, she was actually happy to forget everything she was leaving behind. she thought this change would be no different. she prided herself on having no attachments with one exception. this time, they werenโt even going physically that far. they were even in the same state. but it was a different dimension, one where she previously didnโt exist (or maybe she did and she was still being tortured). it was a lot to think about, and something she still couldnโt exactly grasp and that frustrated her to no end.
it didnโt take long for her to set up her room. the only real things she had brought with her were her weapons and a journal. no keepsakes, nothing to make the room seem homey. her room back home was almost just as bare as this one. she had never been big on material things, maybe because it was a luxury she had never considered before.
despite her best attempts to rest after a busy day, she couldnโt bring herself to fall asleep. it felt like old times, silently making her way to her brothers room. there was no reason for her to sneak, but it was almost like a habit at this point. chaerin didnโt bother to knock before slipping into the room next to hers.ย โseojoon-ssi,โ she whispered.ย โif i canโt sleep, i know you canโt either.โ she spoke to her twin in korean, which now almost felt like their own secret language. familiar, comforting.

BACKGROUND:
biography:ย chaerinโs birth seems rather normal compared to other mutants, but circumstances surrounding the pregnancy were anything but. her parents were scientists, and due to the nature of their job, both the mother-to-be and the twins she was carrying were exposed to multiple kinds of radiation. it went unnoticed until she fell sick on too many occasions, eventually leading to the premature birth of her two children and her untimely death.
life went on for the jung family, and those who knew the patriarch saw a change in him after his wifeโs death. they watched him grow colder and closed off. watched as he refused all their help with raising his two children, claiming it was his responsibility to his wife. it seemed like a noble cause, and an expected reaction to such a tragedy. no one could have guessed what was really happening, the reason for all the privacy and secrecy. the jung twins werenโt normal, and only their father was aware of their mutation.
from a disgustingly young age, chaerin and her twin brother were treated as his test subjects rather than his children. unable to love them after they were the cause of his belovedโs death, he hired nannies to care for them, leaving him to focus on a newfound passion: mutants. with his kids both showing signs of powers before they could walk or talk, his work and life fused into one and became about them. maybe he thought he was doing them a favor, helping them grow, learning all he could about this unexpected development. but at itโs core, it was his own kind of punishment for taking away their mother.
when she was only ten months old, still crawling, her father found her in the kitchen, near the open dishwasher, knife in hand. immediate alarm set in until he realized she was unharmed. it seemed like nothing, just a coincidence, until the same thing happened a week later. but this time he watched as she threw the knife at the wall, the blade sticking into it perfectly. it wasnโt just unlikely now, it seemed impossible. but he already knew his kids could be capable of the impossible.
from then on, she was supervised constantly. a baby with a nearly magnetic attraction to knives wasnโt safe for anybody. but under controlled environments he tested her powers, let her play where she couldnโt hurt anyone. as she grew older, her powers grew with her. with her father to continuously push her, she learned more and more about what she could do. she learned how to properly wield a sword, how to throw knives, how to use an enemyโs own force against him. without knowing it, she was trained to be a weapon. and the head of the jung family knew more than the average person about weapons.
there was no rest, no love, no smiles. just tests, a new trial every day. some were medical; he wanted to know what made them who they were and how despite being twins their powers could be so vastly different. others were physical; he wanted to see how well they were developing. when she grew stubborn and refused to play along, heโd include her brother, using him as a threat to get her to comply. protecting her brother always came first; sheโd easily sacrifice her own well-being to protect him. they were all each other had.
she was twelve when the avengers came to take her father away. he wasnโt a good man, they said. something chaerin was already aware of, even at a young age. he was creating weapons for villains and those against the law. they hadnโt expected to find two children, but it didnโt take long for them to figure out what to do with the twins. charles xavier stepped in, accepting the kids into his school. before she knew it, professor xavier had signed the adoption papers, accepting the twins into his family. taking responsibility for them. she knew it was his brother who had won him over; she had always been more stand-offish, sharp corners and blind rage. but a quick hug (something unheard of towards everyone other than her brother) showed her appreciation to the man.
at the school, with the help of her new father, she discovered her weapon of choice: her dual katana blades. heย even commissioned ones made out of vibranium so that they could absorb, store, and release kinetic energy in battle. she was able to train without the pressure of her birth father. she belonged to no one but herself, and she intended to grow her powers, pushed even further by the thought of revenge against the man who had nearly broken her and her brother. even though she was learning about her powers, what her father put her and her brother through was their own personal hell.ย
chaerin only agreed to go to the academy because of her brother. there was no way theyโd be seperated, and she didnโt necessarily care about the noble act of being a hero. she was never much of one to look up to, never big on saving anyone other than her twin. but she tried for him. and (even though sheโd never admit it) she wanted to try for the man that took them in when they had nothing.
powers and abilities:ย supernatural swordsmanship - the ability to wield a sword with supernatural proficiency in speed, power, and skill, allowing them to perform seemingly impossible feats with ease, such as cutting through near invulnerable or intangible materials, blocking or deflecting things that would normally be impossible to block/deflect.
STRENGTHS:ย
+ enhanced agility & power - when it comes to wielding a blade of any kind, chaerin is faster, stronger, and more reactive to what is happening around her. her dual katanas can barely be seen as their slicing through the air, seeking out their target.
+ deflection - her blades can be used not only offensively but from a defense stand point as well. her agility and power combine to make it seem effortless to deflect projectiles (or enemies in general) coming her way.
+ kinetic energy absorption - her katanas absorb and build up energy from hits they take (similarly to black pantherโs suit) which she can eventually use to deal a stronger blow against enemies.
+ blade telekinesis - includes (but is not limited to) summoning a weapon or controlling the path of a thrown bladed weapon.
WEAKNESSES:
- certain off-world metals and materials are unable to be penetrated by her blades.
- a weapon is required. while sheโs done her best to train her physical form over the years, sheโs comparably useless without some kind of blade to wield against other supernatural beings.
- there is no elevated healing. chaerin heals like an average person and has spent months out of commission due to pushing herself too hard and breaking something.
- has trouble pulling back. her power is strong, and chaerin isnโt always the best at reeling it in when appropriate (though itโs something sheโs working on in the academy).
- sheโs not immune to her blades. her over-zealousness has often ended with deep gashes and required stitches.
what have they brought with them to this universe/timeline: her dual katanas, a specially carved dagger that her birth-father originally gifted her, a journal that she writes in from time to time.
anything else? headcanons? you know what to do:
+ seojoon is her twin brother and sheโs hella protective of him and will kill you if you hurt him, she does not care about the repercussions and no one is an exception.
+ she only wears black, itโs almost always some kind of loungewear, and she rarely wears any kind of makeup. honestly puts no effort into how she looks and finds it pointless.
