     as much as he watched echo, he rarely noticed her watching him. it was still hard for him to believe that someone would want to devote so much to him even though she had never done anything to make him think otherwise. it was his own insecurities that kept him from seeing the depth of her feelings but he was confident she would never leave him and that was enough for him. wrapping an arm around her, he let his mind settle as he started the movie and grabbed the container of oreos. “i agree but i’d rather not find out.” he chuckled, taking a bite of a cookie. all he knew about the movie was that it had to do with some creatures that one should never dare to look at or else, he assumed, it led to one’s death. “ i think i’d rather deal with zombies than whatever these things are,” he mumbled.

     she wasn’t sure if he had expected her to stick around so long, when she had the option to be out on her own again. she wasn’t sure if she had expected it either. in the beginning she had considered it -- only for the fear of matthew leaving her again first. echo had a lot in her, but she didn’t have the will to do that even if she had actually wanted to. “fair enough,” she laughed, “zombies are a hell of a lot simpler.” she opened the bag of chips on her lap, snacking on a few as the movie started. but it wasn’t long into the movie before he had set down the bag and began fidgeting as the first action sequence began. “shit.” she mumbled, trying to preserve some dignity as she nestled closer against his side. “this is even more intense than I expected.”

    matthew had never felt truly at home in his own skin since his tragedy. he needed to be constantly moving, whether that meant just himself or his entire living area, but lately he had began to feel calmer. by now he would have moved them to another city, another adventure, but as echo entered the kitchen, an unbridled feeling of warmth entered his heart. “Next time, you come with.” he was certainly not decisive enough himself to handle the activity. “I’ve heard about that. I’m excited to see it.” his excitement was also peaked because he knew he would enjoy the reactions it got out of echo if it was as thrilling as the reviews claimed. chuckling, he moved to their living room, adjusting the nest of blankets that were always sprawled out on the couch. “bring the oreos,” he requested, sitting himself down so that there was plenty of space for her to fit wherever she wanted.

    the changes had been slow. gradual, but present. like sand through an hour glass. day by day, it got easier. echo had a habit of observing matthew, one she had acquired probably the first day they met. she didn’t analyze, never assumed how he thought or felt -- but she knew him. she knew when she needed to back off and give him space, and when to stay close. echo has never cared enough about anything to alter her behavior, to be mindful of someone else. she was still learning, but she got it right sometimes. “deal.” her laughter was light as she surveyed the food, grabbing a bag of chips and the package of oreos. she recognized the irony of being afraid of a movie, after everything she gone through in real life. not even to mention her outward personality -- as brash as she seemed to nearly everyone but matthew. it was impossible to hide behind that part of her when he was around. but all the same, she was thrumming with a little nervous energy as she settled in at his side with their snacks. she rested her legs across his lap and tugged a blanket over them both. “I bet we could survive an apocalypse.” echo mused, passing him the cookies.

     after a quick trip out to the store, matthew had arrived back home with an assortment of treats to compliment their movie marathon. echo was supposed to pick out the movies while he was gone so he brought the bags into the kitchen, setting them on the counter. “i’m home!” he called out to wherever she was in their shared residence. “i think i bought too much,” he added, staring down at the pile of snacks. the male often liked to over prepare, part of his need for control which he had worked to improve on greatly since they began their travels. echo helped the most with that.

   home. echo still wasn’t sure if she would ever get used to the concept. since they had left the mansion in california they hadn’t settled for long stretches of time. which suited her nomadic sensibilities -- the mansion had been the longest she had stayed in one place for years. echo didn’t know if he moved them around for her sanity or not, she’s never asked, but she’s thankful all the same. still, they’ve been here a while now, longer than the others. a smile tugged at her lips as she heard his voice, setting down the laundry she had been folding and trailing into the kitchen. “or you underestimate my snacking ability.” the small brunette reached on tip toes to press a quick kiss to his cheek before she began unbagging all of the food. “I take that back, it’s too much.” she said with a small laugh as she actually took in the array of bags. “netflix is queued up. I figured we should probably start with the bird box before I lose my nerve to watch it.”

His tongue trailed along his lower lip and he gave another harsh smack, continuing an unpredictable pace until her pale flesh was glowing red. “You’re ass is so pretty like this. Are you going to be a good girl now?” He asked, leaning down to whisper into her ear.

Echo choked out moans into the duvet, tears dampening the fabric. This is perhaps what they did best, and it never got old to the submissive. “T-Thank you. I’ll try, sir.” She shivered, feeling his cool breath on her skin. Her skin felt warm under his hands, stinging wonderfully. “Are you gonna fuck me now?”

“Then I’ll give you a reminder.” Matthew slipped out from sheets and walked over to the chest at the foot of the bed. He rummaged through it until he found what he wanted which happened to be a set of chains and a blindfold.

Her throat felt dry as he got up, looking up at him wonderingly. She felt suddenly more awake, hearing the rattle of chains, realizing what she had got herself into. She though he might spank her, but oh -- “What are you gonna do?” Voice all breath, she sat up with a jolt.
