Rost’s long tongue flicked out at her as he watched her scribble something down. He recognized that sort of excitement– of finding something you’ve never encountered before. It was the best feeling in the world, next to sharing what you’ve found with others.
He regarded her hand before extending his own out of courtesy (sans the hand shaking part).
“Good to meet you, Jenn,” he nodded. “I’ve never met a human before, mostly or otherwise. Are you far from home?”
“Really? Well, I guess that makes sense.” Jenn paused, trying to shake his hand, comically so. His hand was outrageously large compared to her, her hand tiny against the giant mass that was the simple palm of his hand.
Her smile widened, half out of nervousness and half out of childish excitement. God, it’s like meeting a real dinosaur.
“I’m from the next galaxy over, technically,” she spoke, deciding to just grasp a single finger and shaking it. Or at least trying to. Even his finger had the strength of a boulder. “Humans are. We’re a humanoid-- er.." Ah. Wait. “Does that translate? Sorry. We’re a bipedal race. Normally around my height, give or take a foot. Um. Small, by the looks of things!”
She laughed nervously. It made sense, in retrospect, that humans were on the physically smaller side on the literal galactic scale; numerous other predators on Earth dwarfed them. It was fascinating to think of herself, her species, from an outside perspective. But really, that fascinated paled in comparison to the giddiness she felt meeting a prehistoric relic of an alien.
“But, please. Tell me more about... well, yourself, your species-- anything.”

“A-am I going to die?”
Rost turned from the bloody remains of their feathered assailant to the woman behind him, resting one massive hand near her to give her something to hold on to. There was something bright yellow splattered across her face; he could feel the same sticky fluid stinging his leg.
“Don’t open your eyes and don’t let it get in your mouth,” he warned. “I know a place that can help. Can I carry you?”
Jenn reached out, half flailing, and grabbed onto his hand, her own only just holding a finger of his. She was panicking, yes, but mostly she was glad he wasn’t asking further questions as to why someone would bother going after her (and it rattled her brain, anyway, that anything would bother attacking with this behemoth as a bodyguard).
“Yes,” she responded, anxiety mounting in the temporary darkness around her. She wanted to open her eyes and look around, but she knew better, and preferred anxiety to blindness. “Please.”
Jenn has memory implants to assist her in helping recall things with greater accuracy and ease (including photographic memory). Said implants are not of human origin, and she occasionally suffers lapses of complete amnesia due to essentially being a “prototype” for a new species.

It wasn’t terribly often that people bumped into the behemoth known as Rost. Most were observant enough to be busy moving around him and grumbling about his size. He always brushed it off and continued on his way. So when there was the smallest thump against the back of his hand, he thought someone was trying to get his attention.
Carefully, he turned from the store window he’d been looking through and looked down, seeing a startled-looking alien standing there. He held back his amusement at her apology (it’d be rude to laugh over the fact that he’d hardly felt a thing).
“No harm done,” he said softly. “My people call ourselves Stoneweavers; everyone else calls us Enku-Tal. My name is Rost. Who would you be?”
Inevitably, she was fascinated. Eyes glittering, she all but forgot about her sore face for walking into him, and glanced back down at her notepad, flipping to another tab and scribbling something down.
“Very interested to meet you!” Jenn quipped in a chirp, then thrusting out a hand for him to shake. She forgot routinely that the gesture didn’t translate between species. “Jenn. Human, mostly.”
updated ref ft @vin-robles ‘s shading!! thank you so much friend
"Oof!”
Whatever thought was lingering in her head dissipated as Jenn suddenly walked into what felt like a brick wall. She stumbled back, opening her mouth to apologize, only to look up... and up... And up.
If she wasn’t intimidated before, she was now, and she shrunk back, half hiding her face behind a datapad.
“I’m so sorry, sir. You--” The shyness began to fade, though, replacing itself with tentative but enthusiastic curiosity. “What are you?”

“So, the usual excuse. Right.” Vin rolled her eyes for a touch of believability. “You’re here now at least, I guess. You gonna order, or what?”
She glanced again to the insectoid figure shuffling closer, reaching for something under their tattered cloak. Vin stiffened, settling a little further into her seat and settling a hand over the holster at her side.
"Yeah, let me just...” Her hands, still shaking, pried themselves from under her armpits and reached towards the shoddy menus. Just as she did, though, there was a chitonous hand latching out, wrenching her hood off.
“You! You thought you could hide here?!” He hissed, quiet but in a way that demanded their attention, apparently not considering her ‘friend’ to be a threat. It was fair; by Neo Shousis standards, this part of the city was downright rustic. Jenn gasped, the noise bordering on a shrill shriek.
His hand dropped to his holster not for a gun, but for a taser.

“Your…”
Vin’s expression contorted, her eyes almost narrowing to a squint if it weren’t for the nugget of recognition she felt. She knew the kind of urgency the stranger exuded. It was the same kind she often felt herself, wandering around Sigma Rhada, always unsure of the people around her or their intentions.
“Riiiiiight…” Her face brightened instantly, her lips tearing into a broad (if a bit fake) smile. “Where the hell were you? You kept me waitin’ for like an hour…” Her gaze slid aside to assess the crowd, searching out the reason for the sudden subterfuge.
It was the usual sort of crowd, bums and after-hours partiers staying just as long as it took to get thrown out. Everyone seemed content to ignore the existence of the two of them, all save for one. A face Vin didn’t recognize, at least not from these parts. Some twiggy-looking guy, more reminiscent of a stick bug than any kind of person. Completely unworthy of attention if it weren’t for the fact that four of their six eyes were angled toward the stranger who’d just plunked down across from her.
“What happened?” Vin added, maybe a bit too cheerfully.
Jenn felt the relief flood through her like waves, and her shoulders slouched with a silent sigh. Panic was still wild in her eyes, though, her and her hands shook at their place wedged at her sides.
Still, though; she was a bad actor. Should she be quiet, or would that be too suspicious? What if her voice cracked? What if her fake accent was bad?
She smiled, albeit fakely, and was silently grateful her back was to her pursuer.
“Um, oh, uh, you know..” She rambled on about the market sector, and traffic, unaware of the approaching figure.
It was hard to seem at least somewhat less suspicious as Jenn busted through the door of the cafe. Her eyes darted around -- half-hidden under a hood she’d just pulled over her head -- and then focused on the most unassuming person in the room. A Midoan, thank god.
Quickly, Jenn moved over to her table, sliding a chair out and inviting herself down to sit. Just as the woman’s expression pinched and she opened her mouth, Jenn folded her arms on the table, leaning in and speaking quickly, but hushed;
“ Listen, I really need you to pretend to be my friend right now. ”
