A change of expression made the fact that her diversion of topic was successful, if anything it was enough to divert Ruby’s attention from her initial actions. Guilt still remained deep within her, however little there was still remaining, it was enough to cause the heiress’ smile to falter ever so slightly– before she caught herself and reinstate said smile. Lest it caused her already rather skeptical leader to question further, that was. Meeting Ruby’s innocent head tilt with a raise of her eyebrow, a soft huff escaped her lips in regards of the nickname she had come to be known as, soon followed by an expression of vague irritation displayed upon her petite features.
❝ Stop calling me Ice Queen! ❞ Alas, the protest was left unheard as her team leader had already left a flurry of rose petals in her wake, leaving Weiss to her own thoughts and increasingly discomforting sense of guilt. Ruby’s semblance being Speed meant that speedy exits and entrances were to be expected, but it did not come into play during daily routines like showers or for instance: the current scenario of her changing clothes. Which of course, allowed her to settle with any thoughts that perturbed her mind.
Liar. No doubt, she was that now, seeing that she had with such ease allowed a lie to slip past her lips. Not that it was ever doubted that she was capable of lying, or that she was not already a liar in the first place, seeing the several that had already been told in the past. Lightly did she gnaw on her lower lip, glancing over to the side as her expression gave way to one of uncertainty. The telltale sound of the balcony door opening caused her attention to immediately averted back to the culprit, her ever so neutral expression donned upon her features.
Regarding the leader’s question however, did cobalt eyes meet the gaze of the other– brows furrowed as several locations came to mind. A challenge of strength had certainly not been expected by Ruby as being a compromise to her initial situation, hence her rather caught off guard state. Hopefully, Ruby would not find her rather long pause as something to tease her for, before Weiss finally chanced upon a memory that stuck out in particular.
❝ The veranda, maybe? I noticed Jaune and Pyrhha up on the veranda training every so often, so I can assume that it would be safe. That is, as long as you don’t destroy the place too much. ❞ Following her words was a teasing smile, before turning away and forming several glyphs that lead to the veranda with one swift movement. ❝ Let’s go. ❞
“Here’s my answer to that. Nope~ That’s kinda like your signature nickname!” Ruby giggled as she tapped her finger against her cheek in amusement. “ Not calling you Ice Queen would be like Nora never eating Pancakes. Which is really never gonna happen.” She shrugged her shoulders as she watched the heiress take her time in deciding on a location for the match.
Ruby drummed her fingers against the pillar as she waited for Weiss to choose her location, a small part of her wanting to tease the other for not deciding on a location during the time she was away but she chose to keep that down. She did promise to be a little more mature and less childish in her antics after all, at least she hoped she was more mature compared to their first encounter.
Thinking back to how they first met, Ruby could almost laugh as how haphazard it was. Bumping into the one and only Weiss Schnee and sneezing her Dust in her face was not only embarrassing, she had also made a crater where they stood. She shuddered at the nickname that Jaune had given her because of that, ‘Crater Face’. Well, at least she got him back with his own nickname ‘ Vomit Boy’ .
Her reminiscing was broken when Weiss had addressed her finally, though a slight flush of the cheeks erupted when Weiss reminded her of her..slightly unorthodox ways. “H-Hey! It was just that one time! B-Besides, I’ve gotten better I promise!” Though, all that embarrassment went away the moment Weiss summoned her glyphs.
“How about a race? Last one there buys breakfast!” Putting her foot on the first glyph, Ruby looked back at the heiress with a challenging smile. “On the count of three, the both of us head to the veranda as fast as we can!” Holding up three fingers, Ruby positioned for her usual sprinting maneuver. “Ready....three!” No sooner had she spoke the word, she was off in a dash leaving only behind a trail of roses in her wake.
“Okay, so I’m still a little childish but hey, a race is a race!”
Taking the time to turn her head back and look towards Weiss, Ruby smirked as she pretended to look over the distance back at her partner. “Come on Weiss! You slowpoke, I’m already halfway there!”
