I’m unfollowing @markiplier until this cult(?) bullshit is over.
When Mark threatened to kill Warfstache and Darkiplier, I knew he was planning to stir stuff up amongst us, maybe troll us a little and give the fandom a weird feeling for about a week or two. I think the last time he tried to do something similar was when he released Who Killed Markiplier?. Don’t get me wrong, I really enjoyed WKM, especially Jim. But this ‘positivity’ spam is a whole other level.
I tried ignoring it all, I really did. I wanted little to do with this from the start. And I’ve been lucky enough to not have been personally targeted for spam messaging. But I follow Mark on Tumblr and this is where the drama’s been.
I understand wanting to spread positivity, I do. The other YouTuber I watch on a daily basis is Jacksepticeye. Jack I admire because he has dedicated 2018 to Positive Mental Attitude. He’s done this by setting up a charity livestream a week or so ago for a Mental Health charity, raising a lot of money in the process. He also shares a lot of positive fanart now.
However, I’m struggling to understand why Mark’s gone for the ‘change your icon to this creepy version of mine and collectively spam people’ route. To me, it doesn’t make any sense. I don’t know, maybe there’s someone who gets triggered by this kind of stuff. You think about that? Because it’s certainly not helping my mental health.
For me, the reason I’m can’t deal with Mark’s Tumblr present in my feed right now is that had no sleep last night thanks to nightmares. Yeah, one of my favourite YouTubers is giving me literal nightmares with his bullshit. I don’t normally remember dreams and I didn’t have a nightmare for years until last month. Then I randomly became more susceptible. And having dozens of Mark’s various egos, no eyes to be seen, surround you laughing demonically with no escape because you’re convinced it’s reality is not fun. I thankfully woke up after a while, crying from fear.
Look, by all means try to get us to spread positive messages. By all means troll us a little. But you’re going about this the wrong way, in my opinion, Mark. I think it might be doing more harm than good.
I’m still subscribed and following him on Twitter. Those are fine for now. But until this is all truly over, I’m not coming anywhere Mark’s Tumblr account.
TL;DR Mark’s crap is giving me nightmares, he’s probably doing more bad than good and I’m staying away from his Tumblr until this 'positivity cult’ or whatever blows over.
