Sirius tilted his head. âWell, I can show the courageous side without being as chivalrous. Iâm sure there are Ravenclaws that are more intelligent than they are creative. Or maybe the other way around, I donât know.â He shrugged. âYou donât always have to exemplify every trait your house has.
Siriusâs lips twisted upward. He tried to keep his gaze steady instead of giving a sweeping look over Gaspardâs face, but had a hard time doing so. âAh, maybe you are, but maybe many people think that.â Was Gaspard special? Maybe a bit, but to Sirius; he didnât know him well enough to tell. He splashed his swimming partner again when he had slapped the water, and wiped his face. âTry not to keep up that mentality. You know who normally wins fights? The person who thinks theyâre going to.â
âI mean, can you blame people for wanting to rush sometimes? Things move very fast, especially around here. So if someoneâs trying to do homework theyâve put off, they might not want to sit and talk about whether or not a squid can feel things.â Sirius tilted his head a bit to dip the ends of his hair into the water. âBut times that arenât rushed are more appreciated, then, those are the times that matter more, because theyâre the ones you remember. The in-between times when you decide to just swim in the lake for the hell of it, and shit like that.â Sirius shrugged. âOh, whatever, I donât know.â He didnât like leaving things off on such a sentimental note without backtracking at least a bit.
âAh, why? The job too hard for you? Iâm sure once word gets out, everyoneâll know. Information is the fastest thing in the world. Iâm surprised people donât already know because I told you.â He exhaled a laugh and looked down at Gaspardâs arm. âOh, you shouldnât feel too bad, heâs told me that he likes you well enough. And I think I could learn plenty from spying on you.â Sirius looked up at Gaspardâs face for a moment, one just slightly too long, before looking back down into the depths of the lake.
âAlright. You win. Fair point. But...do you not have a chivalrous side or do you just not show it? Thatâs my question.â He tilted his head low, watching him with an upward glance, concentrated. Curious. âI donât think Iâm very creative, at any rate. An intellectual...values learning...sure. But creative? I suppose Iâve dropped the ball on that one.âÂ
Gaspard nodded, softening his gaze. âTrue. Many believe themselves to have something to offer that no one else can.â He considered the sentiment. Did he believe that everyone did? Did he believe that those who believed they did overestimated themselves? It was a lovely thought, wasnât it? To not be a random, minuscule blimp--a particle of dust...less than that, really--in the scheme of all else? Was that a sad thought? Or a liberating one? Gaspard considered it for a while. âThough...I suppose Iâd rather someone think they have something special to offer then to think they have nothing at all to offer, yes?â He hoped he wasnât pushing the other boy away so quickly. He hoped he wasnât getting to serious. âAh, and is there any part of you that believes you wonât win?â
Gaspard considered Siriusâs words. He, himself, didnât believe in procrastination. He believe in being on top of your work made the breaks more rewarding, since you earned it and since you wouldnât have any nagging at the back of your mind. Though, he fully understood that not everyone believed this or lead this life. He couldnât assume his way was the right way. âNo, I canât blame them. Though I do not really understand, I cannot blame.â Gaspard stretched his arms over his head, shaking out the stiffness from using them for so long. âDo you get enough of those times? The ones where life is slowed down and more appreciated times? If thatâs how it is...I hope thereâs a good balance between the two.â
âWell, what if people are in their rush mode? So they wonât stop to listen? You really need a better lake crier,â he teased, smirking wide. It was nice to be back to more lighthearted fun. He could be severe with pretty much anyone who came upon him, but being at ease like this wasnât as common for him to come by. âOh? And would you be so gracious as to tell me what, exactly, you could learn by spying on me? Give me a tidbit?âÂ
