The bench is not just a place.
It’s the fixed point in a story that keeps moving.
What if it had gone this way? ⏳🐍🐇

Experience, Chapter 32
I finally managed to kick myself enough times to finish this chapter ahhhhh!
Sasuke had gotten back after driving Hinata home. His house felt so empty all of a sudden. Despite having lived on his own since he was 18. And having had this house for the past few years. Something about it seemed so unrecognizable. There were no sounds. Not even the wind, or a bird or something. Nothing. It was only him. All alone. He got up the stairs, looking at the door to the guest bedroom. Wondering if it had happened. Her lying in there. Only the dime light in the dark room. Her breath with a sweet alcohol scent. Her cheeks were pink and flustered. And then, her soft lips against his. It felt so good. So right. His tongue wain her mouth. Playing with her. As he forced himself harder down on her.
Sasuke walked over to the empty guest bedroom. The room had her scent, the bedsheets were the source. He sat down on the bed. Stroking the soft sheets. Until he reached for one of the pillows. He lifted it. To his face. He pressed his face to it. It smelled just like her. And he felt his heart beat harder. His mind was at ease. His body relaxed. It was like she was there. Making him forget everything. Sasuke lay down on the bed. Squeezing the pillow to himself. He closed his eyes, and without noticing fell asleep.
“Sasuke?… Are you… Sleeping in the guest bedroom?… ”
A voice called out to Sasuke. He opened his eyes startled. Looking up at the blonde man standing by the bed. Sasuke was still hugging one of the pillows. Squeezing it tightly to his face.
“Sasuke?…”
Naruto called out again. Looking confused down at Sasuke.
“Yeah?… So what?”
Sasuke asked irritated. Realizing the situation. His mind not functioning properly yet, as he had just been woken up abruptly.
“No, I mean sure… It’s just… Are you okay?”
Naruto asked. Naruto didn’t know what exactly was happening with his best friend. Sasuke had never slept in his guest bedroom before. Sasuke hated staying in hotel beds or staying over at a friend’s place. Because he was so sensitive to only sleeping in his bed, in his room. The bed was specially made for him. The room painted with relaxing calming colors. The temperature was just as he liked it. Even the scent of the room was handpicked by him. So that he would get it just the way he liked it. But here he was, sleeping in a guest bedroom, instead of his personalized extreme bedroom. ‘Did he get drunk last night, and fall asleep in the wrong room’ Naruto thought.
“… I’m fine, why wouldn’t I be?”
Sasuke said as he got up from the bed. He threw the pillow away from himself. And it landed on the other side of the bed. Sasuke hadn’t noticed he had fallen asleep. Realizing he had managed to get a somewhat decent nap was almost unbelievable. Sasuke was about to leave with Naruto out of the guest bedroom. But as he held the door, looking into the dark room. He could still smell her sweet scent. A small smirk formed on his lips. Sasuke closed the door to the bedroom. Hoping the scent would stay there longer.
Downstairs the two of them went outside to enjoy the afternoon sun. They grabbed some leftovers from the party. And enjoying the warm summer breeze.
“I apologize I didn’t make it back for your party…”
Naruto apologized with a flustered smile.
“I hope you had a good time without me there anyway, though I find it hard to believe”
Naruto continued, grinning back at Sasuke.
“… Thank you Naruto…”
Sasuke said after a while. He smiled at Naruto.
“It’s been a long time since I enjoyed myself like that.”
Sasuke continued, he took a sip of his drink. Naruto looked pleasantly surprised back at Sasuke. It had been quite a while since Sasuke had thanked him so sincerely like that. But it made Naruto feel so happy for Sasuke. Sasuke had been acting so indulgent and overall happy for a long period now. It was like he had become the best part of himself. Not feeding all the negative emotions, but nurturing the good parts of himself. It was amazing to witness as somebody who had known Sasuke for most of his life. Naruto smiled back at Sasuke and cheered with him. As the two of them continued eating.
Monday morning came. And Hinata woke up in shock. Throughout the evening and the night. Her memories of the night before came back to her. She clenched her hair, remembering seeing Kin and Sasuke standing in the doorframe. She looked gorgeous. And so did he. And she remembered who Sasuke Uchiha was. He wasn’t someone to go on dates or put energy and time into a partner. All in all, Sasuke Uchiha did it for pleasure. That was who he was.
Hinata’s breathing increased. She remembers the chaotic thrill of emotions going crazy inside of her. Was it anger, sadness, or jealousy. Was it perhaps a struggle of wanting to feel like that. Being able to distinguish oneself from feeling responsible. Just being free like him. She had to drown everything. It became too much. She had to escape. That’s when Hinata saw Suigetsu and Karin standing there with her solution. She didn’t remember how much it was she poured down. Just that she wanted to disappear mentally from this hellfire of feelings.
Then Sasuke was there, Hinata remember hearing him yell at the others. Then she remembers feeling his heart beating through his chest. As her head was resting against him. As he carried her. She knew it was him. She could remember his scent. She remembered his chest, and his arms wrapped around her. She felt the soft bed beneath her. And then just silence. She opened her eyes slowly. Realizing it was just him. Hinata was standing by the kitchen sink. Looking down at her glass of water. She could see a blurry reflection of her eyes. Her face.
Then Hinata gasped realizing what she had done that night. She slid down beside the kitchen sink. She took her hand to her face, and let her fingers stroke over her lips. She felt the blood run down her cheeks. Her mind felt dizzy.
“I… I… K-kissed him… I mean… H-he k-kissed… M-me… I mean… ”
Hinata began på panicking. Both her hands started shaking. 'Nononono! This can’t be happening…’ Hinata screamed inside herself. Tears started flowing down her cheeks. She couldn’t comprehend the disappointment and disgust she felt about herself. How could she have acted that way. How could she have disrespected him like that. But why did he kiss her back the way he had. But he also pulled away, didn’t he. Hinata began shaking, while the tears weren’t stopping. This had gone too far. How could she ever face him again. Why had he been so kind still. Did he feel pity for her. Did he feel ashamed of her. Hinata couldn’t think straight. It all came crumbling down on her. How could someone be so irresponsible, so immature, reckless, and careless. She was his secretary. They worked together. All his friends and family had been there. At least Naruto and Izumi hadn’t been there to witness her completely unacceptable behavior. But that didn’t make it any better. The fact was that Sasuke himself had been a first-hand witness to her naive and foolish actions.
“I can’t face him… I can’t go to work… I-I…”
Hinata panicked. She picked up her phone from the counter, still sitting ashamed on the floor. It was hard to hold the phone as her hands were shaking, and her tears were dripping down onto the screen. It was late. But she managed to notify that she would not be coming into the office today. Hinata tried to dry her tears. But they kept coming. Her insides were twirling and twisting. She couldn’t stop the shame she felt. The embarrassment of her actions. How could she ever face herself again.
A few days had gone by. And Sasuke started wondering why Hinata hadn’t come into the office. She had notified that she was sick again. But the week was almost over. Sasuke couldn’t help but wonder if she had gotten seriously sick. Or if something else was going on. He knew he shouldn’t care. But how could he ignore his worry. So against his better judgment, he decided to visit her after working hours. He kept telling himself not to do it. As he drove through the dark city. He didn’t even need the GPS. His mind knew exactly the way to her.
Sasuke didn’t get to argue with himself about it that much longer. Before he was parked outside her apartment.
“Why the fuck am I doing this again…”
Sasuke whispered agitated out loud. He was so frustrated, so furious. Why couldn’t he just leave her alone. Why was he so obsessed with her well-being. He felt like he needed to know how she was all the time. He couldn’t stand not knowing. It felt like it was eating him up. And he felt how the toxicity took over him once again. Like it had done so many times before when it was concerning her. He looked up towards her apartment to see the lights still on.
“Great she’s still awake…”
Sasuke whispered again. He had hoped that maybe she wasn’t awake. That maybe she wasn’t even home. So that he didn’t have to feed these feelings that were eating him up. He clenched his fist. Before opening the car door. His feets felt heavy, as he carried himself up the stairs to the apartment complex. He just needed to see her quickly, make sure she was alright, and be out of there again. Nothing more. Nothing. More. He took a deep breath before ringing the doorbell to her apartment.
At first, there was no answer. He waited what felt like minutes. But finally, he got to hear her sweet tired voice on the other side.
“H-hello?”
Hinata said nervously. She sounded exhausted. But not sick. Sasuke let out a relieved sigh. Hearing her voice felt so nice. And he couldn’t help but smile to himself.
“Miss Hyuga?…”
Sasuke answered a little too seductively. It was quiet on the other end. But he thought he heard a small gasp as he answered her.
“… Mr… Mr. Uchiha… W-what are you d-doing here so late?”
Hinata managed to ask. Sasuke felt a gush of excitement rush through his body. He could almost see her sweet face, blushing cheeks as she tried to avoid his gaze. While she tripped over her words. It made him feel things he hadn’t felt in a long time. It made him feel so horny all of sudden. He knew it was a bad idea to see her. But it just felt so right.
“I came to check on you… You’ve been notified as sick the last couple of days…”
Sasuke said, he tried to sound more like a worried employee, but somehow the smirk on his lips could still be heard in his voice. Hinata didn’t reply.
“May I come in?…”
Sasuke asked, more as a friend than an employee. It took a moment, but he then heard the door being unlocked, and he could make his way inside. He made his way up the stairs and was met by Hinata in the doorframe to her apartment. She seemed just as exhausted as she had sounded. Her hair was slightly messy, and she was wearing loose comfy sweatpants and an oversized hoodie. She was standing slightly hunched over like her confidence had just taken a hit. Her right hand was clenching her left arm, which was hanging down her side. Her gaze flickered between him and the floor.
Sasuke noticed how vulnerable she looked. It sparked something in him. He wanted to run to her. Embrace her in his arms. Tell her everything was going to be okay, despite not knowing what was on her mind. He hated seeing her like that. It made him so angry. He wanted to punish whoever made her feel this way. But maybe she really was just very sick. The last steps up to her felt heavier than normal. Something felt different as he got closer. Like she didn’t want him there. Maybe he was just imagining things, but he couldn’t shake the feeling off him.
“Are you alright?…”
He asked as he stopped in front of her. Looking down at her petite body. His smile from before had disappeared. And his heart didn’t feel fluttering like before. She only nodded slowly, without looking up at him.
“I’m fine…”
She said, with a shaky voice. Something was definitely wrong. They both stood in silence for a moment. Sasuke didn’t know what to do or say. It had never been like this between them. It genuinely seemed like she didn’t want him there. But he couldn’t understand why.
“May I please come in?…”
Sasuke asked. Sasuke wanted to leave her be. It seemed like the best thing to do. But, he couldn’t. He needed to know why she was like this. He didn’t care about what she wanted anymore.
Hinata stood still for a moment. Before she slowly opened her door further, making way for Sasuke to step inside. She backed away and went into the living room. Sasuke let out a sigh of relief. He had feared she would have turned him away. And he would have had to force his way to her. Which he under any circumstances tried to avoid.
They sat down at the small table, opposite of each other. Just like they had before. Hinata’s eyes were struggling to stay open. She looked out the window, feeling overwhelmed by the conversation that was about to happen.
“Miss Hyuga… I do not wish to cause you any distress…”
Sasuke said, looking at her. She raised her gaze to him. Sasuke sighed.
“I just wanted to know, if anything happened that made you regret your decision to sign the contract with us?…”
Sasuke said. Holding his breath for a second.
“Or if something else is troubling you, that may require a longer sick period?”
Sasuke continued. She seemed tense and troubled. Like she wanted to say something, but wouldn’t let herself speak.
“You’ve been with us no time at all, and already you’ve accomplished more than the average employee…”
Sasuke said. He had no idea what she was thinking. What she was feeling. What was making her look so troubled.
“… We put a lot of pressure on you, expecting you to take a role you did not sign up for. ”
Sasuke said after a short silent moment between them.
“Though it is none of my concern what may be troubling you… I wish the best for my employees… Better work conditions increase the motivation of the employees… So that the dreams and goals of the company can prosper”
Sasuke said, and let his hand slide through his hair distressed. Sighing to himself. And looked down at the table. He didn’t know how to continue. So a silence fell over them.
Hinata raised her gaze to look at him. For the first time, Hinata got to witness a side of him she hadn’t seen before. He looked just as distressed as she did. He was clenching his hands tightly together. Looking troubled down at the table. Why was he so distraught all of a sudden.
“Miss Hyuga… Please don’t leave the company…”
Sasuke spoke quietly. He raised his gaze from the table to her. Looking distraught up at her.
Hinata widened her eyes shocked. She couldn’t understand why he was like his. Didn’t he feel ashamed of her, and her previous actions. Wasn’t she just a burden for him. Why was he so keen on keeping her. Hinata felt her heart beat faster and faster. It began hurting harder and harder with each pound.
'Doesn’t he remember what I did… What I said…’ Hinata clenched her hands under the table. How could he look at her like this. How could he ask her to come back to him despite everything that had happened. 'But… He doesn’t know… That I remember…’ Hinata whispered inside herself. 'Maybe… He just wants to forget about it, and have me back at work… Like we used to…’ Hinata held her breath, before breathing out a long sigh.
She closed her eyes. And she couldn’t help but remember all the fun things they had been through. All the small memories they had made. It had only been a few months, yet it felt like they had known each other for far longer.
Sasuke widened his eyes surprised. As he witnesses Hinata’s sweet genuine smile return on her lips. She opened her eyes slightly. And he could see her cheeks blush. He was so afraid he had lost her. How could so few minutes feel like an eternity of uncertainty and worry. And in just a second, everything turned around. And his heart began beating painlessly again. With only a fluttering of happiness.
